We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at Upper Lodge. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The weather was particularly warm so the close proximity of the cool woods was a godsend for us and our two dogs. It is a lovely ten minute stroll through the woods to the town. As an entrance lodge obviously it is also close to the road. We spent a lot of time outside on the patio which might not appear too inviting at first sight but which we found worked very well. Some guests have mentioned the millipedes which are conspicuous on the patio (with a few finding their way inside) but they are harmless, easily dealt with (by a quick brush of the patio first thing and a helping hand back outside) and are simply a natural feature of the immediate location. We didn't mind them. All in all, Upper Lodge is one of the better dog friendly cottages we've stayed at and we would definitely return.

Brilliant location right on the edge of a forest. Delightful, quirky interior like a small baronial castle. Comfortable seating & all mod cons. Slightly let down by cleaning. V. Dusty in places like under the bed & headboard. Outside space covered daily by millipedes which did sometimes manage to get into the house. Wouldn't fancy sitting out there on an evening! Front porch & steps weeds growing & back outside space needs tidying. Despite this we enjoyed our stay immensely. Gatehouse of Fleet was great & a good place for coffees cakes & food! Woodland walks are ace.

Great locstion. Quirky and unique interiorNeeds some upkeep in stairwell.0.Outside space let it down, patio covered in black worms even found them inside the property, garden left to go to weeds.Owner claims millipedes due to location but stayed rural before Not millipedes.
