The View in Garlieston is highly praised for its immaculate condition, cosy and comfortable atmosphere, and stunning coastal views. Guests appreciate the peaceful village location with easy access to walks and local amenities like a pub and cafe. The property is well-equipped, dog-friendly, and the owners, Andy and Kerry, are commended for their friendliness and approachability. Despite minor issues with noise and a dishwasher, the overall experience is deemed relaxing and enjoyable.
Guests consistently describe the property as spotless and very clean, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout their stays.
The property's location is celebrated for its beautiful views, peaceful village setting, and proximity to walks and local amenities, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing break.
Reviewers find The View to be cosy, comfortable, and spacious, providing a 'home from home' experience with a relaxing atmosphere.
The property is well-equipped and thoughtfully furnished, though there is a mention of a leaking dishwasher. The ongoing cafe work caused some disturbance, but overall, facilities are highly regarded.
The owners' approachability and the provision of extras, such as biscuits for dogs, are appreciated. However, it is politely noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and not guaranteed.
An outstanding holiday house in the pretty fishing village of Garlieston the name says it all, situated on the front with views over the bowling green to Garlieston harbour and the sea beyond.
A room with A view!
The layout ensures that all main rooms have sea views out over the harbour, with the Lake District visible on a clear day, and the traditional town house has been carefully renovated to retain all the character of a period home whilst providing modern accommodation furnished and equipped throughout to a high standard. The house provides very comfortable family accommodation but is equally cosy for a couple on their own.
Garlieston itself has an attractive harbour with both pleasure and commercial fishing boats making it an ideal base for sailing. The original village was planned in the mid 18th century by Lord Garlies, later 6th Earl of Galloway and the modern village retains the original quiet character.
The village has an excellent pub and restaurant and it is worth exploring the bustling town at Newton Stewart which has many excellent shops and places to eat, or in contrast the quiet and peaceful book town at Wigtown which boasts many unique and interesting book shops and cafes such as the Beltie Shop and tea room.
There are walks straight from the front door to the seashore and pretty path past the grounds of Galloway House resisting if possible the draw of the sandy beach at Rigg Bay to continue to Cruggleton Castle and arch.
The variety of outdoor pursuits ensure that there is something of interest for all, be it secluded sandy beaches, a variety of testing golf courses, forest walks and both game and sea fishing. The botanic Gardens at Logan and Mull of Galloway Light house also make a good day trip to explore more of the area.
