Achd is a traditional, detached, croft holiday cottage, standing alone within its own fenced garden area, with many original features, whitewashed stone walls, sloping ceilings and wood panelled walls in the bedrooms imparting much comfort and charm, and located just ½-mile from the village. There is much to do for the outdoor enthusiast (a free slipway for small boat landing is available) with several munros, low level walks, kayaking, sea angling and pony trekking. The sunrise and sunsets are truly stunning and Handa Island, Eas a’ Chual Aluinn and the pristine sandy beaches of Achmelvich, Clachnessie and Sandwood Bay are all within driving distance. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

The cottage is clean, warm and well equipped in a fabulous location.The only let downs were:-The shower is difficult if you are over 4 foot tall, you can't stand upright without whacking the ceiling and getting it to a decent temperature that won't scald you takes practice and patience.-The dishwasher didn't appear to be working. It was grimey with an old tablet in it and wouldn't turn on.-Wifi would have been useful but there is decent 5G-There was a planned power cut from 9am until 4pm that no one told us about. Even the 5G went so we weren't sure if the apocalypse had happened or some issue at the house and with no signal, couldn't phone anyone. Everything in the village was closed (so we suspected the whole village was affected) and it wasn't till we got to Lochinver that we could find out from SSEN what had happened and get breakfast. A bit of warning would have allowed us to prepare and at least make a flask of tea before heading out for the day.

enclosed garden is now totally wild and overgrown and there was no sitting out area or garden furniture.. local hotel is closed sundays and mondays and essentially caters for residents only. our weather was poor and electric central heating was no longer working and heating was a two bar electric fire. owner had a new cleaner and new rubbish sack had been put in a dirty bin. freezer had been switched off and floor was wet the first two days of our stay. if you don't mind rustic and very basic this is the cottage for you with no neighbours apart from some deer.
