Smiddy Cottage is a three-bedroom pet friendly bungalow set in the hamlet of Shanzie near the Town of Alyth and Glen Isla. The cottage has a large, secluded garden surrounded by woods with plenty of walks straight out of the door, you can walk to the river Isla and with spectacular views across to the Sidlaw Hills. The bungalow was built by the current owners and all the rooms are amply proportioned, there is an open fire in the lounge and with the main rooms being south facing it’s a great space to chill out, unwind and enjoy time with family and friends.

Sadly the cottage was less than clean with visible hairs on kitchen and bathroom surfaces, in the fridge and on the bath mat. The walk-in shower was blocked before first use so the only shower available was over a bath. The rooms were not quite as depicted in the advertised materials and as a result we cancelled the other guests booked in to join us.

Mooie locatie. Heerlijk rustig. Genoeg ruimte. Het had schoner gekund. Toiletbrillen zaten los. Bij binnenkomst rook het huis of iemand had gerookt. Veel de ramen en deuren open gezet.

Smiddy Cottage is situated in lovely peaceful countryside with lots of places to visit nearby. We had great weather and were able to make good use of the outside sitting area, loungers would have been nice though to relax on. The cottage had everything to make it a home from home. The living room has an open fire which we lit once it cooled at night. There was a problem with the heating which we contacted the caretaker about but it didn't get fixed while we were there, communication wasn't the greatest. The toilet seats were loose and need to be tightened. There were a couple of loose floor boards from the kitchen to the dining room. Most of these problems had been mentioned in previous reviews and are not being dealt with. Apart from that we did have a great holiday and would stay again.
