Penywhelp House is a well-regarded cottage with a history that adds to its charm. Guests frequently praise its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and convenient location for exploring the area. The property's well-equipped kitchen and cosy log burner are highlights, alongside a secure garden that is appreciated by dog owners. While some guests mention steep steps and parking challenges, the overall sentiment is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
The majority of guests find the cottage to be beautifully clean upon arrival, with comfortable beds and well-maintained rooms. One review mentions an issue with bedding cleanliness, but this seems to be an isolated incident.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to local amenities, scenic walks, and the estuary. The nearby pubs and the ease of exploring Pembrokeshire add to the appeal. The only minor drawback mentioned is occasional busy traffic.
Guests find the house very comfortable, with special mentions of the comfortable beds and the cosy log burner. A few guests noted the sofas and seating could be more comfortable for extended periods.
The property is appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen and spacious bedrooms. However, some guests missed having a washing machine and found the parking access tight. The steep garden steps may also pose a challenge for some.
While many reviews express gratitude for the owner's helpfulness and the secure garden for dogs, there is no specific mention of gifts or thoughtful gestures that would warrant a score in this category.

St Dogmaels is a quaint and old community nestled peacefully around its ruined abbey at the mouth of the River Teifi on the wild west Wales coast. Y Felin, one of only two operational watermills in Wales, is one of the attractions. It still has the machinery built in 1820. The mill is considered to have been built by the monks of St Dogmaels' Abbey in the 12th century. The miller demonstrates how the mill works, and you may buy bread, flour, and cakes there, or visit the Coach House Café nearby for tea and cakes and light lunches. Every Tuesday, an award-winning local food market is held here, and it is well worth a visit. A pub, a fish and chip store, a Post Office, a cafe, and a small museum near the abbey are all located in the settlement. There's also a lovely green and a duck-filled millpond. Just over a mile away is Cardigan, a charming ancient market town.

It was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The beds were also comfortable with lovely duvets and there was plenty of storage for clothing. The shower was hot and powerful. We enjoyed using the log burner as we donât have one at home so a bit of a novelty and there were plenty of logs, kindling and fire starters. The house is in a great spot for exploring the surrounding area. We visited Cardigan, inland to Newcastle Emlyn and Cenarth Falls, along the coast to Fishguard and a day out to Saundersfoot and Tenby. Also nearby is New Quay and Aberaeron, well worth a visit. Sadly the nearby pub and restaurant was closed for a week but we enjoyed two meals out further along the road at the Teifi Waterside. Our host Ruth was very friendly and helpful and the welcome pack was much appreciated. I thoroughly recommend this property.
