Penlan cottage in Caernarfon, North Wales, is praised for its cleanliness, stunning location, and cosy atmosphere. Guests enjoy the proximity to local amenities and the natural beauty of the surrounding area. While some mention the need for updates and better heating, the charm and views often outweigh these concerns. The lack of Wi-Fi is noted, but for many, it adds to the property's appeal for a peaceful retreat.
The cottage is consistently described as very clean, with numerous guests highlighting its tidiness upon arrival. The high level of cleanliness contributes significantly to the overall positive experience.
The location is highly praised for its beautiful views, proximity to local shops, pubs, and walking routes. The convenience of the location for exploring Snowdon and the village's charm are frequently mentioned.
Comfort receives positive remarks for the cosy atmosphere, but several guests mention the need for a more comfortable mattress and better heating. The mixed feedback on comfort leads to a slightly lower score.
Facilities are generally good, but some guests note the need for sharper knives, a better shower mat, and updates to the heating system. The presence of a washing machine is appreciated, though the absence of a tumble dryer is noted.
Guests appreciate the property's charm and historical connection to Rupert Bear. While some guests mention a lack of welcome gifts such as fresh milk, it is politely noted that such gestures are not guaranteed and vary by stay.
Beddgelert 0.3 miles.
A charming, detached Beddgelert cottage, set in quiet woodland in an elevated position above the picturesque village of Beddgelert in the Snowdonia National Park. This Beddgelert cottage is affectionately known as Rupert Bear's Cottage in memory of the author and illustrator of the Rupert Bear stories, who lived there from 1956 to 1986. He gained his inspiration from the local countryside and wrote the Rupert Bear stories from here for many years. This secluded Beddgelert cottage has two bedrooms, a sitting/dining room, and a well-equipped kitchen area, both with exposed wooden beams. The gardens and woodland surrounding this Beddgelert holiday home provide peace and tranquillity, yet the cottage is only a 5-minute stroll into the centre of Beddgelert. There are miles of walking tracks around, some starting from outside the door of this Beddgelert cottage. Further afield are the beaches of Porthmadog, Italianate Portmeirion, castles at Caernarfon, Conwy and Harlech and the coastline of the Llyn Peninsula. A fantastic Beddgelert cottage, in a great location at any time of the year.

We have been before as it is very special but we were disappointed with the lack of maintenance and investment in the property. The heating doesnât work at all and the small portable heaters will not be sufficient in colder weather. The towels provided were so rough you could exfoliate with them and even worse they stank. The kitchen is not well stocked with equipment and the windows have blown which is a crying shame considering the views you have from them. It would also be lovely to have some garden furniture provided. I would recommend Penlan as it is beautiful but it is so sad the owners are not maintaining it to a higher standard.

The house has amazing memorabilia from the Rupert Bear era which was a privelege to see for people of our generation. It is a short and pretty walk to the village and everything is dog friendly.
