Dog Friendly Cottages in Caernarfon

Caernarfon is a historic port town in northern Wales. Caernarfon Castle is one of the best examples of mediaeval architecture and is a must-see attraction, and there's plenty more to see and do. For a great family day out, try Gypsy Wood animal farm and park with a miniature ride-on train, or tour the Sygun Copper Mines. You'll also find loads of great areas for walks, like Beddgelert Forest and Gelert's Grove.

Here at Dog Friendly Cottages, we want your dog to enjoy your holiday as much as you do. That's why we have a great range of dog-friendly cottages in Caernarfon. For secluded getaways, we have luxury cabins with hot tubs and cosy fireplaces. For family holidays, we have modern barn conversions and airy farmhouses.

All our Caernarfon dog-friendly cottages are great bases for exploring northern Wales, including Gwydir Forest and the famous 'https:="" www.dogfriendlycottages.co.uk="" snowdonia-holiday-cottages'="">Snowdonia National Park — places that your pup will love running around in. For local produce, try fresh apple juice from the Pant Du Orchard, or fresh seafood from the port. Or, for a look at Welsh culture, try the Welsh Highland Railway or some of the local festivals, like the yearly food festival and Welsh Harp Festival.

    Location location location!

And that is why we chose to stay here. It was wonderful gazing at the castle through the windows on a daily basis. The town centre was easily accessible from here as well. There was some occasional noise through the night on weekends. And cars illegally parked directly outside the bedroom window on week days. This is mainly down to the location. There's a nightclub nearby, and a shop serving takeaway breakfast. The central location near to the castle, and with stunning views of both the castle and harbour, is bound to come with a few setbacks, so we didn't mind this. It is exactly as pictured, so you know exactly what you are getting beforehand. The style is quite Scandinavian and minimalist which I liked as it felt fresh, clean and uncluttered. It also made packing easier when we headed home. A bit more clothing storage in the bedroom would have been good, but otherwise we subscribed to the 'less is more' decor. However less is definitely not more when it comes to information. We were surprised to find that there was no information booklet. We've stayed in at least 20 rental properties in the UK and this is the only one without any written information. As such we didn't know how anything worked: the oven, the heating, the TV. None of them were straightforward. We would never have worked out how to find and access the washer, which is shared between the rental properties and numerous shops. There's a total of 4 different coded gates/doors in this property and you're only provided with the code for key safe which cannot be used elsewhere. It feels like the owners want to say there's a washer but don't really want you to use it, seen as they don't tell you where it is or how to access it. There needs to be some written information provided so that guests don't need to ask the caretaker at every turn. Thankfully, he is lovely, and very patient. But I shouldn't have needed to contact him as much as I did. Be warned about the 'adjacent car park'. I could not find any pricing information online in advance. It is a phenomenal £14 for 18 hours. There's no 24 hour option or weekly option. This car park will cost you a further £125 a week on top of the rental price. What's particularly frustrating is that it's owned by the same company as the property. So it feels like an excuse to extort further funds from paying guests. We only parked here once, the rest of the time we parked elsewhere. But the truth is, that's incredibly inconvenient when you have suitcases/shopping. Particularly infuriating when there's a large open space directly in front of the property and a car park next door that the property owners also own. A deeper clean of the bathroom also needs to be considered. All other rooms were immaculately clean but on first use, the bathroom sink failed to drain due to the plug being full of hair/fluff. I freed this up but shouldn't have needed to. Also, the shower head was visibly mouldy on arrival, so I cleaned this too before use. But it still needs a proper clean as I had no cleaning materials with me. And it needs cleaning every week. The hand-wash was empty and had evidently been empty for quite some time. If it is not going to be filled up every week, remove it. We weren't able to open the windows and this is obviously a known problem as evidenced by the air fresheners in every room. The doors were weighted fire doors, so it wasn't possible to simply leave them open. The lounge in particular smelled of wet dog when we arrived, so we propped open this door with a chair for the duration of our stay. Also I am 5 foot 4. Thankfully I travelled with someone who is 6 foot 2, so we were able to use the bedroom blind. But I would have had no chance, the cord for this was way above my head and I could only just touch it even at full reach. Again, this would have been another call to the caretaker every time I wanted the blind pulling on or off. The blinds are great quality and very stylish but they need to be made more practical! Overall I felt that the property had been renovated extremely well and it was very stylish. The quality of the furnishings was very good. But it was let down by little things which had evidently been overlooked. All of these little things could be easily rectified should the owners decide to take on board the feedback from various guests. Frustratingly, almost everything I have said has already been raised by other paying guests, so why have they not been rectified?

Our first observations were that the cottage was much bigger than it looks on the photos, The fire looks about a foot wide but it is actually about 2 feet wide.

The chimney pipe goes up about 3 floors before it leaves the building, it is huge in there and spectacular! It was also ready to light on arrival with extra wood. The sofa looks small and uncomfortable in the photos yet it is actually quite big and very comfortable. I am 5 ft 10 and I was laying back with the sofa at the back of my neck. Secondly the photos don't show that you actually have 2 toilets and a big double room. We were both shocked at how big the place was! A huge feature for us was the porch, which is great for taking shoes and wet clothes off before entering the cosey cottage. The cottage also has a loft area where we had a wine and enjoyed watching the wild horses gallop while we watched the sun drop behind the local mountains, best view I have ever seen in my life!!! The cottage is actually about 300+ metres above sea level so you get a lovely view. You can also see the sea in the distance if you would like a video of the view please email me at xzaros@gmail.com it is the best view I have ever had from a holiday cottage in Wales and I have been to a few now. The cottage is also very close to main roads so you can get to some big towns very easily which is great to do a big shop to save money. Morrissons, lidl, asda etc. They can be found in Bangor and caneaforn which are about 15 mins away. We found those at the end of our holiday so Google them. You will get good 4g in the cottage as the antenna is local. We spent a fortune at the local spar shops. We have 2 big huskies and they could not escape the enclosed garden and they love escaping! Finally I'd like to give a huge thank you to the owners. They welcomed us as we arrived, said hello on our 3rd day and said goodbye on our last day. Even though they live on the same land we genuinely felt like we were isolated. Please don't see the owners beings close as a bad thing, I did before I arrived but they were great! We also had some organic tea and coffee and cake waiting for us as we arrived. Thank you so much! We have been to probably around 15 properties around Wales now and this is our favourite. On a funny note my wife even said I shouldn't leave a review as we want to keep this place for ourselves. Thank you Robert and Pam We will be back very soon if you will have us! x Ryan, Charlene, Brandon and the two huskies

We have just spent a wonderful week here.

We were greeted by the lovely owners Rob & Pam who live in the cottage next door. The location is wonderful just over 1000ft above sea level and apart from the mountain views you could also see the sea which I wasn’t expecting so an added bonus. The cottage is quirky benefitting from a utility/ boot room when you enter, ideal for coming in from a rainy day so you can discard wet clothes and dry off soggy dogs. It was useful to have the separate loo as well as the main bathroom one too. Shower over the bath was nice and worked well. The bedroom is warm and cosy and has a wonderful view from the picture window. The lounge/kitchen is well equipped and has all that you need. In fact we benefited from a new fan oven on the day after we arrived as the oven had broken. Pam and Rob were apologetic but we didn’t worry as we always take a curry for the first evening to save cooking, so only required the hob anyway! Dog friendly garden as secure with the gate and a bench table tucked around the side of the cottage which is a lovely sun trap. Lovely comfortable folding garden chairs were available to use and for a whole sunny day we made perfect use of them. We made use of the supermarkets in Bangor for provisions which was an easy car ride and to get into the heart of the mountains was a very short journey which was fantastic. We both enjoyed the holiday and would definitely return.

Had the best week away to this amazing apartment, set in the harbour area a minutes stroll to the castle and all amenities.

The apartment is decorated to a high standard and is well equipped and comfortable. A short stroll around the castle are lots of pubs to sit out and admire the views. The only downside is the parking situation, when we arrive we found out from the caretaker that the harbour trust had installed new meters and a new tariff as the apartment does not include parking (even though there is a massive area directly outside the apartment that is council owned but has bollards all around to stop cars getting on) the tariff at the car park was £18 for 18 hours (no 24hr option) the caretaker told us a alterative parking spot which was £4 for 4hrs or £5 for over 4hrs where we parked for the first night. we were unsure abut this because on the ticket it said it was only up to midnight. after a bit of research we downloaded a app called Horizon parking and found we could pay for parking at the local Asda store that was a 5 mins walk from the apartment from Sunday to the following Saturday for £12 this was great as we ha booked a few steam train trips so didn't need the car. Felt so much better than paying over £120 for parking. loved the whole week with great views and a fab place to people watch.

This was by far one of the best holidays I've had in a long, long time.

The property itself was beautiful and was maintained to the highest standard (having been a chambermaid in a 5 star hotel I have a tendency to score places on this criteria when I know I shouldn't haha) The owners Pam and Rob have thought of everything, absolutely everything. I have never stayed somewhere so well equipped. It was peaceful and cosy. I really appreciated being able to sleep with the window open and was not disturbed once (the frog that came to the front door every night can be forgiven) Having booked this a few months ago I had looked forward to it with only one wish, that I could take a coffee out every morning and gaze out to sea. My wish was granted tenfold. The dogs absolutely loved it too, so much freedom in the enclosed garden and so many wonderful walks nearby. I can't praise Pam and Rob enough for this gem of a holiday. I feel so relaxed now (though a little sad back here in rainy Manchester) and we will definitely be back (not as soon as I'd hoped however, but the popularity of this place just goes to show doesn't it) Visit here, you won't be disappointed. The pictures on the site are lovely but they don't do it justice.
