What our customers say about their holidays

Alarm bells should have been ringing due to the lack of reviews about this property.
It just wasn't very clean. The lamp shades were dusty. There were food stains on the crockery. There was a privacy issue as we could look directly into the upstairs windows of the houses opposite and they into ours. Downstairs, passers-by could look in as they walked along the pavement, hence the profusion of net curtains, which made the property decidedly claustrophobic. The ceilings are so high that all cosiness was lost upstairs. The colour scheme of blues and wood grain makes the house seem cold. From the kitchen area you have to cross the entrance hall to reach the dining room, which was a rather narrow, dark room. The games hamper was a bit of a mess with pieces of games spilling out of the boxes. It needed a good sort out. The pub nearby was noisy and we heard late night drunken swearing and arguments. I knew when booking that the property had no outside space, but the close proximity to the neighbours windows and their outside space was uncomfortable; the house was an island. Every morning we didn't enjoy the revving of the neighbour's motorbike. We could never park in the street near the property. We had to park in a public car park in the next street. The owner did give us a free pass for this but nevertheless it was an inconvenient walk. The area of Sandown was really run down. The abandoned and derelict hotels on the nearby seafront were so depressing and the pier was horrible. I have to say it was the worst town and cottage I've ever stayed at. It just doesn't work as a holiday cottage, in my opinion.

(Sykes Cottages have always been reliable over the years.
We know we're in good hands.) Our vacation at 2 Linden Terrace was both memorable and stress-free. It's rare for an owner of a holiday property to reach out before check-in, to suggest you're welcome to enter your holiday home a little earlier. We were genuinely surprised. And on top of that - the level of text interaction with the owner was pitched just right. This home is so well thought out with small creative details which made our stay more enjoyable. The location is brilliant to get to the beaches and the front garden is also a nice addition. The icing on the cake are the friendly, kind neighbors at No.1. Really special people. I wish we had neighbors like them back home! This location and property is a real find. If you're looking to stay on the Isle Of Wight, I suggest you don't bother researching anywhere else. Just slam your finger onto that book now button!

Only a few niggly things.
Garden not private, although there is a privacy screen inside the gated part but has to be taken down if you want to go out the gate. Wi fi is very poor . TV reception very poor. Great shower but as much water sprays on the floor as on the body. Well equipped accommodation even down to loo roll, dishwasher tablets, washing machine pods, tea, coffee, sugar. Kevin and Jenny very helpful, especially when the washing machine broke down mid wash. They took the washing and finished it off in their own machine and dried it. Steps down to the beach only a 5 minute walk away, although dogs not allowed on the beach from May to September, so if you are planning long leisurely walks on the beach with your pooch, don't holiday on the island during these months.

Would appreciate more transparent info pre booking.
Eg privacy was not good. Owners used our courtyard for access to parking and their flat above. Our privacy was compromised as we never knew when they would appear. Plus the cottage was dog friendly. Some dogs are protective. Owners just walked into our space with no regard for our dog who may have bitten them. Our dog was repeatedly surprised by their appearance which was disruptive to our peaceful stay. Dishes and cutlery needed washing before we could use them. WiFi was very poor and could not even connect or use our Netflix account to watch a movie at night. Many folk are vegan so would appreciate being asked when booking. Soy milk and vegan welcome biscuits please NO dairy? Overall, not ideal with being under owner with lack of privacy.

Plan was to holiday with the 2 dogs to give them a break.
Perfect location with beaches in less than 5 minute walk. Located mid distance between Shanklin and Sandown. Accommodation was very good with every facility available. Hosts did all they could to ensure you had everything you needed. Nice seating area outside for those late evening rays. Lake itself was a bit disappointing with only one pub in reasonable walking distance - and stagger back - but they did not serve evening meals. Tesco Express, Chinese, Kebabs and chippy all easy to walk to. Supermarkets and KFC about a 5 minute drive away. Everywhere was very dog friendly with water bowls outside houses, even some with dog biscuits. Used the holiday let as a base. Day trips by car to every part of the Island to see attractions. Job done.
