What our customers say about their holidays
Louise - Verified booking
We very quickly felt as if we were in the way.
'Move your car over'. There was plenty of room. We were greeted by a dog, friendly I'm sure, but she jumped up and you could feel her teeth. One of us had to get out of the car when we drove in as she would bound towards us and we were afraid of knocking her over. The bedroom was a problem as one side of the bed had a big 'scoop' shape, which was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress was also rock hard. The blind was also broken and let in light so we were awoken very early, so were tired. Both these issues were commented on in the notebook they had left for comments. The wardrobes were half-height cupboards and so longer clothes such as dresses were on the floor, so we had to use the hook on the back of the door for longer garments. And the picture of the nude in the bedroom we felt was inappropriate. The bathroom had strings of cobwebs in it. There was a massive spider in the sitting room, which defied all our efforts to remove. The place was generally cluttered and we had to move things out of the way to make room for our things - this was especially so in the kitchen. The dishes and cutlery felt dirty and we had to wash everything before we felt happy to use them. The instructions regarding the bins were incomplete - they didn't actually say where the bins were. The grill pan had caked on grease. There was dog hair on the cushions. The dining chairs were uncomfortable and needed the addition of cushions. The sofa was also very uncomfortable. We also struggled to open the bigger windows, some we just couldn't budge, so we were too hot and we didn't want to open the door in case either the dog or their birds came in. There were 6 birds running around, the breed I can't remember, and they were cute. However they were fed early and the noise (we think it was the woman) sounded through the apartment as they appeared to be doing it under us. There had been photos of an outdoor sitting area under the apartment that we could presumably use, but this was filthy and usually had the owners things on it. We really didn't feel welcome. And to top it off they complained about us! They said that we had wrecked the internet router and television. We hadn't touched the router as the code was in the folder in the sitting room. And the television was on a metal folding arm so you could amend the position of the screen. All we did was pull it out and then push it back when we weren't using it. The allegation was withdrawn but it has left a very bad feeling for us. We really wouldn't recommend this place.

A lovely little cottage full of character.
A cosy lounge with wood burner and two big double bedrooms, we enjoyed a very comfortable stay. Parking wasnât a problem and the helpful pointers from the owners meant we could always park close to the cottage. The church bells do ring regularly and throughout the night but they didnât bother us and we were sleeping in the back bedroom with the window open, this didnât stop us from enjoying many a good nights sleep. We very much appreciated all of the guidance provided by the owners on local walks, things to do and places to eat. Dunster Castle is approx 5 mins walks from the cottage and Dunster beach about 25 mins. The little utility room was great to hang wetsuits after a trip to Wimbleball Lake for a spot of Paddle boarding, as was the washing machine after getting wet on a walk back from Dunster beach. The cottage was furnished to a high standard throughout, the bathroom is downstairs but that didnât bother us, shower over bath nice and powerful and always lots of hot water. Both bedrooms were a great size, bedding and extra soft blankets were plentiful. Thanks for a great week.

Exactly as advertised and even better equipped.
We had a lovely weekend. The cottage was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed (and more) with lovely touches. We decided the beds were "magic" as we slept so well, once accustomed to the regular church chimes (suggest ear plugs if that might bother you), superbly comfortable, as was the living room furniture. The weather was changeable but we managed to get out for a couple of walks around the picturesque village and up to the folly for wonderful views in every direction, the hills one side and the coast, from the Bristol channel over to Wales in the other. Close to many beaches and easy distance from Minehead if you require more than the quaint shops in Dunster village can provide. (Lovely deli but could we find toothpaste anywhere? Maybe when lockdown fully eases there is a more general store but was a good excuse to pop into Minehead). Would recommend this charming accommodation.

Great place to stay, within walking distance of the village (fab deli, newsagent, cafes, pubs, restaurants but no general store) and amazing coastal paths.
The cottage itself was cosy, very comfortable indeed, lovely beds, crisp, clean linen, plenty of towels, big sofas for relaxing on in the evening, wi fi, television, well equipped kitchen and so peaceful. Two, very minor, points worth mentioning: 1. I couldn't get any mobile signal inside the cottage - because the walls were so thick probably. It might bother others more - I just turned off my phone and forgot that the rest of the world existed for a week. 2. There's no general store - no Spar hidden behind a mediaeval façade so although the deli sells milk , bread and some toiletries (as well as an amazing selection of cheeses and other delicious things), we had to go to Minehead for the boring every day stuff. Just bear it in mind if, like us, you're not coming by car. All the arrangements through Sykes and with the owner were easy and clear. Can't wait to go back again.

âThe Hideâ is a truly lovely retreat, the décor is stylish and the views are beautiful. The house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay, along with many thoughtful touches, such as board games and books. There is plenty to do at Silverlake between the pool, hurricane terrace and spa, water sports, zip wire and lots of lovely walking trails. We can also recommend take away pizzas from the shack! It is ideally located for exploring the abundance of nearby beauty spots â we enjoyed day trips to Weymouth, Poole, Studland Bay and Lyme Regis. For eating out, we had great food at The Black Dog Inn and The Frampton Arms (both have childrenâs play areas too). All in all, we had an incredible week and made lots of lovely memories. Thank you for opening up your home to us, we will definitely return for another visit.
