What our customers say about their holidays

We stayed at Gardeners Cottage for 4 weeks during a house move to Alvescot.
The cottage is cosy, comfortable (especially the bed), quite well equipped with a large garden with wonderful views over the countryside. Good off street parking although it took us a while to understand you park adjacent to the house on the grass verges. The key safe was a bit of a challenge at first but ok to use after weâd mastered the code. If youâre bringing dogs, the garden is not contained so we used a roll of garden netting to keep ours from wondering off, or bothering the neighbours. The garden furniture is in need of a refresh, but ok to sit out on and enjoy the beautiful view. Youâll need accounts to all the streaming services on the TV as thereâs no access to Freeview or terrestrial channels via an aerial. We have streaming accounts so it was ok, just not possible to scroll through channels (a good excuse to forget the TV and go for walks with the dogs!). We changed the batteries in one of the TV remotes. A note to the management team - we had the plumber visit twice to take air out of the system which was caused a lot of disturbing noise in the early hours of the morning. They came promptly the next day and rectified the problem, but I think the system needs a good overhaul in general - ou canât shower upstairs if someone is issuing the shower downstairs for instance. Agree with other tenants that a microwave would have been convenient and the cutlery is a little tired The village is peaceful (a sleepy hollow) but itâs a drive to a shop and a decent walk to the Hare pub. Careful where you walk as one of the neighbours was upset that we hadnât followed a public pathway which wasnât marked to be fair. I think on balance it may be on the pricey side for what is offered and we noted that it wasnât booked at all in July & August which is a shame. It served us well for our move. Perhaps the pricing needs looking at?

A pleasant picturesque Cotswold cottage in a rural location with a farm at the end of the lane and cockerels crowing from dawn to dusk.
It is a great location to explore the Cotswolds. There are a few footpaths and bridleways close by too. We used Moreton in Marsh for takeaways, Stow and Stratford for food shopping. The nearest pub was a mile away which we walked to one sunny evening and had a fine meal there. The cottage is generally spacious with the kitchen being on the small side and quite cluttered. You have to move the 3 bins (not shown in the pictures) around to get into the freezer or out of the back door and there isnât much space for food storage but otherwise well equipped. The wine cooler is very noisy as mentioned by others but can be turned off after a bit of searching for the on/off. We struggled to get the TV to work though. Even the younger, tech savvy adults couldnât get it to turn on. Not a big problem though as we were only catching up on Springwatch so used our phones. Wifi is superbly fast but little or no phone signal for us. The cottage was clean but did smell of dog when we arrived which would be ok if you like dog smells. On our stay in early June there were cold north easterly winds and cold nights and the single glazed, metal framed windows were quite poor at keeping the draughts out and so it was chilly inside even with some heating. When the sun was out though it was nice to have lunch on the terrace courtyard. The sun is lost from the garden mid afternoon in early June but if warm enough would be nice to have dinner there too. The drive isnât as big as it looks in the pictures and we found it tight to get in an out of onto the unmade lane but my car has a poor turning circle which didnât help. We visit the Cotswolds every year usually staying elsewhere and autumn time and so this was a new place and time of year for us and was a pleasant place to stay.

We liked the beautiful location in the countryside up a gravel lane.
Quiet, yet within easy reach of the Cotswold towns by car, and the National Trust property nearby. It's well equipped for 6 adults and we parked 3 cars in the drive, though 1 was on the slope of the drive. We were kept in good contact with emails, texts and reminders with all the details. Only being there for a long weekend we didn't need all the appliances and put some away (icemaker eg) as the worktop space was more valuable especially as there were ice packets in the freezer and a quiet wine cooler! Other appliances were put out of the way to get the cupboard space to put food away, especially with a few flies around which is only to be expected in the countryside. There's plenty of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. Would be useful to put on the details that it's a charcoal BBQ! Because of the weather it did get chilly in the evenings and we should have thought to drop the blinds in the lounge to help keep it cosy because of the windows, but being so out in the countryside and not needing privacy, we didn't think to do so until the end! The garden is beautifully kept and for our family all the accessories connected to skiing and Tignes were appropriate and interesting, having stayed there a number of times! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, shame it wasn't longer!

Basically a very pleasant and comfortable cottage for two people set in a lovely part of the Cotswolds within easy reach of numerous attractions, but, and there is always a but, the devil is in the detail and it is in the detail that this cottage fails.
Our feeling was that the owners have rather given up. The occupancy rate is clearly rather low and the level of care and attention likewise. All of the following complaints are, in themselves minor, but they add up to making what could be a really lovely experience turn out to be a bit frustrating. The information (or perhaps instruction) booklet clearly dates from Covid and has not been updated, similarly the rack of tourist information leaflets is wildly out of date, many are dated 2018. The lighting, particularly in the living room is so poor that reading during the evening is difficult. The TV is very small and the DVD player only worked once. The instruction book did not seem to refer to the TV on the premises and the remote control did not work properly. The kitchen was quite good but the fridge was only a larder fridge without even a compartment to make a tray of ice cubes or to freeze ice packs for picnics. There is no washing machine which is unusual these days. I believe that electrical appliances should have a PAT test certificate, only one had and this was some years out of date. I also believe there should be a gas safety certificate on the premises but we couldnât find one (forgive me if I am wrong about either of these points)
