What our customers say about their holidays

  • Angela - Verified booking

The setting was truly beautiful and very hard to beat, however the lodge was very dirty.

The dust was so thick you could write your name in it. my husband dropped his swim shorts on the floor and when we picked them up they were filthy. The toilet was stained and as for the toilet brush was disgusting! I might suggest a plastic sort next time so it doesn't rust. We were also very disappointed when we walked up to the restaurant on Tuesday, where we thought we would have a drink and order from the takeaway menu, however we were told it was only available on a Monday! Apparently it was on a sign outside the restaurant but it was NOT on the one in the lodge, which was the one that we were looking at. Our driver had had a drink by that time and we were unable to drive anywhere else and as we didn't know the takeaway menu was not an option we didn't have anything back at the lodge so we went hungry! This issue definitely needs to be addressed. We spoke Christine when we picked up the keys and were not made aware of it. The cocktail we had was rubbish too. It seemed to be very under staffed, the girl working the bar said she was the only member of staff on. It put us off so much we cancelled our reservation at the restaurant for the Wednesday and had a lovely meal out instead. There was no welcome information pack, eg things to do in the area, local taxi phone numbers, takeaway menus as you cant eat on site. We chatted to a gentleman when we took our rubbish to the communal bin and he had asked if we had seen the otter or the kingfisher. It would have been lovely to know this information so as we could have kept an eye out for them. The beds were comfortable and clean but a spare duvet or blanket would have been nice as the duvets were thin and my husband was cold. We paid a lot of money and our expectations were not met. Overall stunning location but poor cleanliness and lack of information. If these issues are rectified it would be an ideal getaway.

On site facilities are excellent and staff in the bar/restaurant were very friendly and helpful.

Regarding the accommodation- fixtures and fittings were originally to a high standard - we have stayed at this site many times over the last 12 years including previous stays at #7 Water’s Edge - however maintenance has not been kept up. Lounge/Kitchen area is still very nice with good views across the lake. There are some games provided and TV/AppleTv/Bluray player are nice to have for a lazy afternoon at home and sofas, table & chairs are all good quality. Cleaning routine had failed to pick up mouse droppings in multiple cupboards- I hadn’t expected to have to sort out a visit from Rentokill whilst on holiday. We were unable to report this issue immediately due to a Bank Holiday, however this was resolved within 24 hours of being reported to CharterOak. Flooring and skirting in the en-suite needs replacement due to mould & damp. The worktop in the kitchen also needs attention. Decking needs attention- some boards have already been replaced. More needs to be done in the near future. Table & chairs on the deck need maintenance (cleaning/sanding/minor repairs) or to be replaced. We were quite tolerant of the issues due tonour fond memories of family holding over a number of years, however I would be surprised if a first-timer would be wishing to return based on this experience. We still find this a very relaxing location and would consider booking again but only in one of the lodges which has had recent maintenance. We would not rebook WE7 at this time unless this issues mentioned have been addressed. We registered these issues with Sykes on day 1 of our holiday. It is now 9 days since they were registered we have not been contacted other than to receive a complaint reference.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable four night stay at 7 Waters Edge.

The surroundings are beautiful, very peaceful and quiet with lots of wildlife around! The property was clean and tidy upon arrival and the facilities were ideal for what we required. The hot tub was perfect - clean and well maintained. We used it everyday and had no trouble with it at all, I believe the maintenance person did come to check the hot tub halfway through our stay. We did not eat at the on-site restaurant but we did have a drink there one afternoon - it’s modern and has a cozy pub feel inside with very affordable drinks prices. I would recommend buying any food shopping before arriving at the property as a large supermarket is about 40 minutes drive away. There are picturesque seaside towns about 30 minutes from the property which are lovely to explore for a couple of hours - our stay was in December so understandably they were very quiet and not everything was open. The only issue we had with our stay is the master bedroom bed was incredibly uncomfortable - you could feel the mattress springs digging in when lying down and gave both of us painful backs. On our last day when stripping the bed before leaving, we saw that the mattress was actually upside down which would explain why it was so uncomfortable, although I’m not sure why it was placed like this! It is a shame about the master bed as every other part of our stay was absolutely brilliant! Despite the uncomfortable bed we will definitely be returning to 7 Waters Edge for another relaxing break in the near future!

Please see copy of email send during our stay of which I still have not received any reply from yourselves.

We have been thrilled with our accommodation and would have recommend to family and friends, even considering rebooking ourselves for next year however I'm afraid we have had our stay interrupted on 3 consective days. Apparently maintenance work was needed to be carried out and a builder turned up on Wednesday morning and has been here each morning since at 9:15am replacing a window and roof! I am somewhat disappointed and surprised that at no point have we been informed that this was going to take place during our stay and this morning a member of our family was unwell and woken with the noise. Although we understand that sometimes urgent maintenance work is necessary we have been disappointed to arrive at the property with scaffolding up and a two builders present for part of our holiday without any prior notification and having paid full seasonal price for a relaxing week in Cornwall and having to clear debris and some small pieces of glass from the living room floor on returning yesterday. The builder has been very pleasant and is at no fault. I would appreciate if someone could contact myself to discuss further.

I honestly can’t find a single fault with Harbour Light!

We have stayed in a fair few places in Boscastle and my Dad has been visiting for 40 years and this place blew him away. The view of the harbour from the apartment is the best in Boscastle by far, the place was immaculately clean and well furnished. The kitchen and bathroom were top notch and the bedrooms were really comfy. There’s everything in the apartment that you could want and I imagine it is very warm if you visit in winter time. Loading and unloading the car is really easy with plenty of space to pull up right outside the front door, then all you have to do is park at the public car park in the village. If you get a week long ticket with the Just Park app then it works out really cheap daily. At time of writing it cost £15.10 to park for 7 days. Great that you can check in at 3pm, others in the village are much later. The whole thing was very simple. I really couldn’t find a single bad thing to say about our stay, we will be back for sure!
