What our customers say about their holidays

A nice little village and a nice house, comfortable and great for walking to shops (oddly all shut end March/April) & pubs & we had a good stay, highly recommend Asquiths restaurant - superb!
We were out all day as renovating our house in Fowey & we can honestly say the house is lovely to come back to after 12 hours of hard exhausting work to relax in the bath or a hot shower, lots of hot water. Dare we say, parts of it might need a little TLC - sofas a little worn but still nice, but double bed mattress in back room very worn and rather uncomfortable but sure the owners have that scheduled to replace. The other double very comfy & nicely firm & the singles felt firm too (but we didnât sleep in there). There is a problem with parking, though - donât expect to park in the road as it was full at all times of day. We stayed in March and had to park in main Lostwithial car park (7 mins walk with dogs and bags uphill) every day as nothing in nearby roads - double yellow lines & people did get tickets we noticed),goodness knows what itâs like in July & August! Itâs a pretty cottage, spacious & the kitchen is lovely & well equipped for cooking but oddly only 6 of everything and only 5 mugs, two badly chipped! 6 people would struggle with that but there were only 4 of us so fine for us. Garden is very pretty even in March & must be lovely in summer, lots of quite steep slippery steps, so with the big steps up to the house and steep stairs this house is definitely only recommended for the fit and able. Communication was a bit of a struggle with the owner & he/she took days to get back to us and then didnât reply at all on checkout day which was pretty important as no info on where to leave rubbish & recycling, as no help in âinfoâ book which we only found on checking out & it doesnât mention important checkout info (might we suggest the book is updated & left out on a table?). Perhaps Being an Airbnb Superhost make me a little more critical of things like that as Iâm fanatical about giving my guests the best quality experience and as much helpful information as possible as they then usually leave the house nicely (which we did of course & always do) & Iâm available 12 hours a day I for guests. We wanted to let the owner know his heating was on high 24 hrs a day but when he doesnât reply, we didnât bother. We turned it down of course when not there & at night but others wonât & it must be costing him a fortune in gas, poor man! All in all a good stay, a lovely comfortable house in most respects & in a sweet village & only 15 mins to beautiful Fowey.

The property is comfortable and the rooms are clean and spacious for our family of seven.
The dining table was great for board games but also allowed meals to be set without the packing away. The ground floor bathroom and side entrance is ideal for when you enter the property with your dog. The cream tea hand made scones and dog treats was a kind welcome gift. The kitchen had all we needed to prepare meals though the knifes need sharpening and some of the ceramics were chipped. The property could do with double glazing you can feel a draft from around the window panes. Also the door in the dining room could do with a draft ceal. This was a real issue as when we arrived the first night we were not aware that the storage heaters had been turned off prior so the property was cold and the following day when we turned them on we had no heat, naturally we turned them up but then only found that we would wake in the night as the property had become unbearable hot. We reported to the caretakers over the weekend but did not get a response until Monday. We also raised our concerns that the hot water would only be on for the morning which when you have 7 occupants 3 teenagers that water would not last long and the only response we received was that a larger water tank had been requested from the owner. The Internet is a nightmare as it is only a mobile sim we ended up having to connect to a neighbors bt wifi as the connection kept dropping. The TV would not connect to any wifi I ended up buying a fire TV stick so that we could watch films in the evening. The garden is a good size but not enclose it would be fine but even though we abided to the sign on the gate to please close the gate, the neighbors on this plot I assume we're not the ones who installed this sign as they continued to leave it open. The short cut into the city was very useful and Truro is lovely, a nice selection of restaurants we enjoyed the cinema and would recommend if you like a welcoming retro environment. The house is a great base and would be ideal in great weather but when it's raining outside it lack our needs. We had a few other issues with a faulty light in the master bathroom and broken door knob in the kitchen but we're all rectified on the Monday by the caretakers.

I'll start with the positives: the beds were incredible soft and comfortable, and the kitchen was really well-equipped and clean.
The garden was gorgeous, although unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough for us to make much use of it â I'm sure we would've done if it wasn't such a wet week in March. Unfortunately, when we arrived the boiler and heating were off and the house was freezing and smelled slightly damp in the front of the house. We rang the owner and they talked us through fixing the boiler, however water started spraying out of it and although the owner was apologetic and said he'd call out someone to look, we were told this wouldn't be for 2 days and until then to use water from the kettle to wash up and one plug-in space heater for the whole house. Very stressful, but thankfully we managed to fix it ourselves that night. On top of this, the one bathroom shower is very weak, the internet is weak and can't be used in the kitchen, the living room lamp kept blowing the fuse if you tried to use it, the front door is very stiff which is a worry for less able people (you have to ram it open/shut!), there was a huge patch of condensation some days on the wall under the fuse box, and we couldn't get the gas fire going (but this may have been us, not a fault, but we had a good go at it)... plus some of the towels were stained and had a bit of an odd smell. On the whole, it feels like the whole place needs to be updated. There are mismatched patches of paint on the bedroom walls; and the house, as gorgeous as it could be, feels overall pretty neglected. Pretty disappointed for the price we paid. As I say, it's got beautiful bones, it's just not very well maintained.

Absolutely amazing.
We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

First time at booking with Sykes, our Cornish Cottage in Falmouth was lovely.
So homely and perfect location to use as a base so we could explore the area. Lovely little communal garden and lots of friendly staff and facilities on site. We booked Cornwall as it was our Silver Wedding Anniversary and we wanted somewhere nice to remember it by. A nice little touch to find that the owners had made provisions for us by supplying the basics such as tea, coffee, sugar and milk, toilet roll etc., After an 8 hour drive, this was indeed a very welcoming gesture. There was no cheese grater and bathroom mat a bit too flimsy which resulted in a slip but in general, the south west is a very nice area. St Ives, Swanpool, Falmouth, Truro and St Austell all very good with some nice shopping centres. Bosvathick Riding Stables in nearby Constantine also well worth the money if you like Horse Riding and Eureka Escape Puzzle Room in Truro also very good for team building. I would give the holiday in all 8 out of 10. I'd like to give it a better rating but can't as sadly, whilst we were staying, there were some people within the cottage complex who were smoking something quite unpleasant which spoilt the evenings as we had to keep the windows/doors closed. Having said that, we have booked with Sykes to go to the Lake District in a few weeks time, where hopefully, we will be able to enjoy the evening fresh air as well as having plenty of trips by day around the beautiful Lake District.
