This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

Brookside Lodge in Cornwall offers a homely and comfortable stay with a well-equipped kitchen, cosy bedrooms, and a hot tub that is a hit among guests. The property is set in a beautiful location with convenient on-site facilities and is dog-friendly. Welcome gifts add a special touch, enhancing the experience.

Cleanliness

The cleanliness of the lodge has received mixed feedback. While some guests found it clean and tidy, others reported issues with cobwebs, dampness, and unpleasant odours, particularly related to pet smells and mould. The hot tub cleanliness is praised, but overall, there is room for improvement in this category.

Location

The location is consistently praised for its beauty and convenience, with guests enjoying the surrounding walks and proximity to towns like Tavistock, Looe, Plymouth, and Port Wrinkle. The lodge's setting within a holiday park adds to the appeal, although the steep terrain may not suit everyone.

Comfort

Guests find the lodge comfortable and homely, with cosy bedrooms and a welcoming atmosphere. However, some guests mention issues with damp mattresses and a need for better-quality pillows. The presence of a hot tub adds to the comfort factor, despite some reports of malfunctioning jets.

Facilities

Facilities such as the hot tub, WiFi, and on-site amenities like pools and a gym are appreciated. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues, including broken appliances and furniture, which suggest that while the facilities are good, they require better upkeep.

Thoughtfulness

Guests have mentioned welcome gifts, which are well-received and add a thoughtful touch to their stay. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, may vary and are not guaranteed for every visit.

About this property

Situated in an ideal location for touring Cornwall, South Devon, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, this Alpine-style lodge offers comfortable accommodation and is set in glorious rolling countryside on the Honicombe Manor Resort, close to Gunnislake. With all the benefits of the free leisure passes, your holiday can be as active or relaxing as you choose. With indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts and a gym, there is plenty to keep you busy. After an action-packed day you can head back to the lodge to relax in your private hot tub, whilst planning the next day ahead. The lodge is designed in a clever upside down style, to make the most of the beautiful countryside views from the south-facing balcony, which adjoins the impressive open plan living room. With contemporary furniture to enjoy alfresco dining and sun loungers for total relaxation, the balcony is the perfect spot to return to, after a day out exploring this delightful area. There are three ground floor bedrooms, with the double having a Jack-and-Jill access to a modern bathroom. The two twin bedrooms are both situated close to the family shower room. The first floor open plan living room has a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable dining area and a cosy sitting area opening out onto the balcony. Whilst there is a bar and restaurant on the resort an enjoyable walk will take you to the village pub, The Rifle Volunteer, serving good food and local ales with regular events being held throughout the year.

With walks and cycling trails right from the door, and so many villages and attractions to visit all within a short drive, this lodge offers relaxing, comfortable accommodation all year round.

The small rural village of Gunnislake lies on the steeply wooded banks of the River Tamar. It has village pubs and a small selection of shops. Notably, the village sits at one end of the scenic Tamar Valley Railway - with regular services along the river bank to Plymouth. The area is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, the south and north coast beaches and the attractions of Cornwall’s far west.
