What our customers say about their holidays

Lovely cottage in a quiet hamlet.
Had a great week there exploring an area of Cornwall never visited before having always stayed in the Newquay area. Proâs: Lovely & very modern well set out cottage with comfy beds. Has everything you need whilst there. However a few extra cleaning cloths would help as one dish sponge supplied so one for cleaning bathroom would help. Iâm always wary in dog friendly accommodation even though I brought my own dogs but there was no dog smell which was great. Outside shower was a god send for showering dogs after beach. Cons: Having read previous reviews re, cleanliness I was a little worried. On arrival I was very disappointed that despite previous bad reviews that lessons hadnât been learnt as it was very dirty & looked like it had been a long time since had a deep clean. It had received a surface clean only. The high windows above the patio doors were full of cobwebs complete with a spider. The skirting was dirty & behind the bed and bedside units even more so. Down the side of the sofa were the Wi-Fi unit was kept was disgusting, full of dust bunnyâs and dead bugs. The upstairs loo extractor rained down clouds of dust & the occasional dust bunny rolled out from under the sofa. The velum windows were full of cobwebs inside and dirty outside. There was dirty cushion covers on sofas & a stained rug. Thick layer of dust on extractor hood and lamps. The remote controls were a petri dish for bacteria. You go on holiday to get away from housework & only expect to have to clean up after yourself. There was very limited Wi-Fi & only managed to get Netflix on once for 20 minutes but to be honest this did not bother us as it was nice to have the break from it all & we only used as a base for sleeping. I was a bit apprehensive about the garden not being enclosed with my 2 dogs but due to set up of the patio doors it was easy to keep an eye on them, plus due to location there was no passing traffic. We stayed there during a very hot week & the heat inside was unbearable, blinds at the doors and on the high windows would really help, we closed the curtains whilst out to cool the lounge down but the light & heat from the high windows above the patio doors was unbearable. A ceiling fan would be a great addition also. Would I stay here again? Yes but only if I could be guaranteed a cleaner cottage. You need to find a better cleaning company as that was the only downside which was a shame. I did try to contact the owner re, the cleanliness whilst there but as the phone signal is very poor I could not get a connection. Yes I could have tried whilst out & about where signal was better but I didnât & thatâs on me.

We enjoyed our stay at Sea Reach and its proximity to the beach and centre of Looe. The cottage is pretty well equiped and it was a nice touch with food essentials + on arrival. It was all straight forward re getting the house keys and key for the parking space. The only negative was the cleaniliness in the kitchen/downstairs area. In a very old cottage the odd few cobwebs and dust etc is to be expected. However I had to clean cupboards in order to put our food away as they were sticky and grubby. Remains of food items left to be helpful is fine if it is within date bottles clean etc. Some of the crockery, utensils and glasses were dirty smeary and not clean. In the end I washed before using. It seems a shame that this is not dealt with as there is a dish washer. Floors again downstairs were not very clean. I understand that the cottage allows dogs but we always use a towel for the dogs as they come in after they have been out and a stone floor is really easily mopped and carpets hoovered. Upstairs was fine. The travel cot was very useful as was the high chair. We asked for a stair gate which you confirmed by email was available and in the cottage. However when we arrived this was broken and would not have fitted the bottom of the stairs in the lounge. We resorted to using a broken airer to block the stairs and stop a one year old and two dogs escaping up them!! The smoke alarm started beeping in the middle of the night and the power downstairs in the kitchen went which was tricky with making bottles for a baby. We located the fuse box the next day & informed Richard who came out. However it was not clear what had caused the problem and attempts to retify the smoke alarm did not work so in the end we took the new battery out and the beeping seemed to stop. We informed Richard as to what we had done. But obviously this is not a long term solution as there is no back up if the power goes and there is a fire. The gas had to be checked whilst we were there which Richard apologised for and I understand that these jobs have to be done. But again when everyone is in the cottage and babies need naps it is not ideal especially as no specific time was able to be given and the engineer just turned up! It is a sweet cottage in a good location it just needs a bit of tlc and care to bring it up to the standard one would expect when paying rent for a holiday. The question below re recommendation is tricky. If the areas above were dealt with then yes because its location is great but from our experience this time probably not.

Lovely house in a great location.
Loads of space, we were a family of 5 (4 adults and 1 teenager). Small garden, which is enclosed for dogs or small children, so safe for them to be outside. It is also gravel rather than grass, so no muddy paws to wipe off either. It would benefit from a dish washer in a property that size, we seemed to constantly be washing pots. There is plenty of room for one, the kitchen is huge. A double sink in the kitchen with a decent drainer woukd be good to avoid lots of water over the work surface. The only things provided were 2 J cloths, 1 scourer, 1 tea towel, 2 loo rolls (one in each bathroom) and 1 hand-wash in the kitchen. You could do with at least 2 or 3 tea towels, and maybe a couple more loo rolls and a handsoap in each bathroom. The downstairs shower was great, good water pressure and temperature. The upstairs shower is electric and is not very good, low pressure and cool temperature. Just couldn't get it to a decent warm temperature even on full power and heat. Beds were comfy, but they are doubles and not king size. The rooms could easily take super king beds, which would make for a great nights sleep after a long journey. The pillows were rubbish, very flat so take your own if you like a supportive pillow. One last thing, the TV aerial in the upstairs ensuite room needs fixing just under the skylight window like in the twin room next door. We had to fashion something to balance it on top of the TV to get a signal (we used a rack drawer from the wardrobe turned on its side). Also need a pole hook to open the windows in the roof, as the one provided is broken. It works to push them closed though. St Agnes is a lovely, quirky little village. Only a short walk down the hill from the house. There is a cut through between the houses just before the driveway that is quicker. Can recommend the Peterville Inn and the Chinese takeaway for food (best chow mein my son has ever had apparently). Lovely house, would definitely stay again. Thank you

On the arrival day, the email from Sykes said we could enter the property at 3pm.
On arrival at 3.50pm, the cleaner was still there and advised us that the arrival time was not until 6pm. We found it difficult parking at the cottage. You could drive into the drive but to get out you had to reverse all the way back along the narrow drive and road (approx 100 yards) as there was no where to turn your car around as the neighbours had blocked their drives to prevent this and the yard in front of the cottage was to small to turn your car around. This should have been included in the descripton of the property. There was a washing machine to wash your clothes but no where to dry them ie tumble dryer, clothes line or pegs. The mattress in the downstairs bedroom was too small for the bed. It was a double mattress on a kingsize bed. In the kitchen there was a sink but no draining board for when washing your pots. The second bed in the twin room was not made up, just a sheet folded and laid on the bed to make it look like it had been made. Sykes were advised prior to arrival that all the beds were going to be slepted in. It is not somewhere that we would want to go back to. It wasn't a holiday home where you could enjoy your stay. We did telephone Sykes helpline on the first day of our holiday to complain about not being able to get in to the property at the correct time. An email was received to say that someone would get back us once it had been investigated but that was 11 days ago and we haven't had a response.
