What our customers say about their holidays

This is a well equipped cottage nicely kitted out inside with just about everything you need.
The house is like a tardis with plenty of space inside including a huge impressive bathroom with some quirky art work, and a good sized dining room. The near by Cresswell crags is a great place to visit. One of the reasons we picked this property was for the enclosed garden to let our dog into in the morning. Unfortunately we could not let the dog out off lead as there is an un-gated passageway leading straight onto the road. We ended up taking the dog a short way up the road every day to where there is a large grass verge and a pooh bin. The biggest problem with the property was the heating which is controlled with an app by the owner. The heating is set to 19 degrees and is on from 4pm to 10pm in the evening. I spent the whole week wearing 2 jumpers in the house and feeling progressively colder in the evenings after the heating had gone off. It was particularly cold in the bathroom. There is a large 6kw decorative gas fire in the lounge, however it is extremely inefficient allowing most of the heat to go up the chimney rather than into the room. I dread to think how much it costs to run, I am sure it would have been cheaper to turn up the central heating! We were there at the beginning of April when overnight temperatures were down to zero on a couple of days. If you go in the summer you should not have those problems and should enjoy a very pleasant stay.

Whilst the bathroom is really well appointed a few things would improve it to make it more user friendly.
When using the bath there is nowhere to put a tablet of soap, shampoo etc. so a dish or bath rack should be provided . In addition there were no handrails provided to assist in getting in or out of the bath. The walk in shower was nice but the glass side panel is too short and it was impossible to use the shower without soaking the floor. The floor was not designed to be a wet floor because there was no floor drain installed so some consideration should be given to better containment of the water from this shower. I would also point out that the shower base was completely flat with no anti-slip grooves or pimples in the surface which made it very slippery. Finally the towel rails were unheated and we therefore had to hang our towels out everyday to dry them off. Fortunately it was very hot and sunny so they dried perfectly but they definitely would not have dried had we left them in the bathroom without heating. On a couple of evenings, after a really hot day, the temperature dropped suddenly and it would have been nice to have had some means of heating in the lounge. All in all we enjoyed our stay but I'm not sure that we would whole heartedly recommend the cottage to our friends which is a true test of how we felt about it

It was only after we booked and paid that we had a note from Sykes explaining that the parking area might be a problem for larger vehicles.
We have a VW Passat Estate (not the biggest of cars these days) and it was very tricky, not just to reverse though the gates into the driveway, because of parked cars opposite, but even more so to tuck the car tight up against the property to allow the neighbour (who has shared access and a garage opening onto the drive) to pass with their car. This would have been good to know in advance. Also Sykes only provided directions to the property from one direction despite the fact the owners had more detailed instruction inside the property. Would be good if Sykes published this on their website along with the owners suggestion of how to park. The Coach House itself was very warm and comfortable, beautifully furnished and well equipped, and we felt very much at home. The owners expressed a wish to know if anything else might be added that they missed ....It would have been good to have had a shaver point in the bathroom for rechargeable toothbrush and razor(or at least to have known in advance to bring manual ones). Also would have liked corkscrew and small tumblers for orange juice etc. All in all, lovely stay and Wirksworth was a good base for discovering the Peak District. Many thanks.

Lovely holiday with our tween and teen.
Just over an hour to the Peak District, did archery and air rifle at the tournament ground in Blythe, pony trekking at Derbyshire pony trekking 10 mins away, Bolsover castle, you could walk to Creswell crags but book early if you want to go in the caves as it was fully booked when we came. Cottage had everything we needed although a bigger saucepan might have been handy. Be careful with the kettle as the steam is very close to your hand - we used the oven glove. Kids woke at 6.39 most mornings as they could hear neighbours through the wall. We woke to lovely bright sunshine every morning (bring a mask if you like it dark). We snuggled under a blanket in the evenings and wished weâd brought slippers although it clearly says we could have put the heating on if weâd wanted to - it didnât warrant that but there was a chill. Bring or buy dish washer tablets but everything else provided. Was a 10-15 min walk to the local co op and fish and chips shop. Didnât meet the owner but didnât need to. We had a lovely week in the cottage. Kind housekeeper found our daughterâs mask under the pillow and owner arranged for it to be posted back to us- really appreciated.

We loved this cottage, really, really comfortable and had everything you would need for a short stay.
The cottage is well positioned in the village with great amenities, including dog friendly pubs and lots of lovely walks a short drive away. The nearby meadow made up for a lack of garden and was perfect for early morning and evening toilet breaks. We loved chilling in the cottage in the evening after a busy day and the property owners had thought about that - plenty of board games, music system, books and freeview TV. We also felt our dog was welcome too, sometimes the number of restrictions made on dogs makes it really stressful ( trying to keep them off the furniture, wiping up muddy paws etc) but I got the impression the owners were dog lovers - they had spare bowls and a dog bed, with a request to try and keep dogs off the furniture but with the acknowledgement that dogs will be dogs. I would definitely recommend this cottage, and would most certainly return if we are holidaying in the area again.
