What our customers say about their holidays
Neil - Verified booking
Nice cottage in good central location.
. comfortable and cosy, quite small so just big enough for the three of us, would have been a squeeze for four (2 adults and 2 large teenagers as booked but one stayed at home) plus the pup, so manageable. Nice scones, cream, jam, milk and flowers left for arrival.. lovely gesture. For us, Ilfracombe, in parts was a little run down and there seemed to be lots of male dominated pubs up near the co-op/morrisons end of town which gave it an unsavoury feel at times.. especially at night. We also witnessed a very nasty argument on our first night outside the Weatherspoons making us wonder where we had come to! By no means the fault of the cottage but worth a mention. Fore Street seems to be the main route back from the pubs at the lower end of town and as such there is much whooping and shouting, on the weekend evenings in particular, as people leave the pubs and head back up the hill.. zero consideration! the last group headed up the hill at 3.30am on Saturday night.. not aware of any late pubs/bars but people were still out and about.. the windows and doors are old so do little to cut any noise, these also condensated a lot during our stay so were running wet much of the time. In all a lovely cottage but a little too noisy on Fore Street for our liking. The parking permit was very welcome but be aware your car is some distance from the cottage, and with the yobs racing their cars round the harbour some evenings this did worry us somewhat.. there was a lot going on for such a nice quaint place, we were very surprised. The steps outside the cottage became very slippery as the week went on as we had a lot of rain overnight (and these never had the sun on them to dry off) and seemed to get a green slick on them plus there is the slippy manhole cover to negotiate too, one of the steps is also starting to break up. The back door was a pain to lock and unlock and on the last day it was Impossible to lock so we had to contact the house keeper.. these things should really be checked and i see this has been mentioned before. In all, a lovely cosy cottage with all you could need, great shower; clean linens etc but if you dont like noise, like us, it may not be the place for you. Bring loo rolls, you only get one but most other things are provided. Enjoyed a different kind of stay being more central but would not return to this location. Maybe we hit a bad week with lots going on in Ilfracombe but we can only report what we found and this is how we found it. Also the rubbish stacked on Fore Street was unsightly. Amazed the council allow a sheet to be placed over bin bags that cats and gulls repeatedly rip open and spread rubbish along the street. If I was a resident I would want that sorting due to the rats it could attract. Seemed to be the residents of the lower terrace of cottages, everyone else seemed to use the bins and didnt stack bags on the street as they did. Have photos to show this if needed. Comms from owners before was very good and the info sent very helpful. Thank you!

A lovely place to stay, with plenty to do.
Having the private beach was a real bonus as no need to get in the car if planning a day at the beach. Our grandson enjoyed the play area and had lots of fun together with children from the other cottages. The cottage was as described, and yes small but adequate for us and our grandson. We struggled to sleep well due to the small double bed which I had read about in previous reviews but chose to ignore hoping this issue may have been addressed. The cottage is nicely decorated and fairly well equipped, the towels were lovely and soft and although small , the bed was comfy. Our dog was also well catered for, treats, poo bags and even a towel. The animals were very friendly ,well cared for and enjoyed being fed on a regular basis (food available from the shared utility room). We didnât have a problem with the wi-fi or mobile signal as was previously mentioned in reviews. Staff very friendly and seldom seen so not intrusive in any way. The location is excellent, plenty of walking directly from the farm and a very short drive to Ilfracombe for supplies or day out etc. Also walking distance to local attractions and eateries. All in all a fabulous place to stay and highly recommend.

Very well equipped and clean.
However some things need attention. The walk-in shower in the en-suite produced extremely hot water which could not be controlled. The temperature control mechanism did not work making the shower quite dangerous to use. The dining table chairs were in poor condition and a possible danger as their backs were unstable. The television is too small and difficult to see clearly from the settee (at least for elderly people). It had also been left in a confused state re the channels. Not all the electric lights were working. The sofas were very uncomfortable. In addition we were very disappointed in the Mullacott Park site. Although most of the lodges looked very modern and well cared for there was also a lot of debris strewn around the park. In addition there was no reception, the cafe/coffee lounge was closed and the launderette very shabby looking. There was also only a small space between our lodge and the next one making it difficult to park our car.

The cottage was beautiful.
The setting was lovely with all the animals having free roam of the land too was so nice to see. For the 3 of us and a dog Martin Cottage was just perfect, everything well presented and clean. The single room door sticks from the inside but when mentioned to a staff member they were willing to address it straight away if needed. Staff would walk past regularly and great our fur baby numerous times which she just loved. The cottages are set hire local to Hele Bay, we didnât manage to do the costal walk with an 8 week old but would definitely do it when we return. The private beach is a little rocky but is beautiful and very easy to get too, wish we had spent more time there. Overall lovely stay and looking forward to booking up again in the future.

The cottage is very well furnished with the exception of the bed in the main bedroom which was narrower than a normal double bed.
However the living area was very cramped and it was necessary to move furniture for comfort. The toilet brush was broken and cobwebs on the bedroom ceiling gave doubts about the cleaning regime, also despite being, quite rightly, asked to clear up after our dog there wsa a large amount of goose droppings in the parking area and by the cottages. While this can be expected in fields on a farm by holiday cottages and parking it is not acceptable. As there is to mobile phone signal there it was not good that there was no on-site contact in case of emergency, leaving a mobile number was not much use. All in all we were quite disappointed with Martin Cottage where we had been looking forwerd to staying.
