What our customers say about their holidays

It was my first time visiting Scotland and I stayed at this charming cottage, it was nothing short of spectacular.

Nestled in a tranquil area, the cottage provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The serene surroundings and the picturesque views were simply breathtaking. Every morning, I was greeted by the sight of lush greenery, as someone who has always lived in the city surrounded by buildings this was honestly eye opening, making it the perfect spot for nature lovers. The cottage itself was cozy and well-appointed, with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was fully equipped, allowing us to prepare our meals with ease, and the living area was perfect for unwinding in the evenings with a good film or a book (the cottage had both books to read, DVD’s to watch a film and a smart TV to browse through). The area was incredibly peaceful, providing a much-needed escape into nature. The only sounds I heard were the gentle rustling of trees and the occasional chirping of birds, creating a tranquil atmosphere that was perfect for relaxation. Whether I was enjoying my morning tea on the decking or taking a leisurely walk around the area, I felt a deep sense of calm and rejuvenation. There were plenty of scenic trails for hiking, the cottage had a lot of leaflets, travel guides and folders with maps to see nearby attractions. We visited a waterfall that wasn’t too far from the back of the cottage took us approx 1-2 hours to reach and it was breathtaking (just a heads up it was a lot of walking and some incline). There’s also an estate nearby that held the beautiful Highland cows and had some hiking trails. We saw a deer once on the first day but unfortunately we didn’t see anymore. There was beautiful little birds that would visit the birdhouse in the garden every morning (leave some seeds and water for them to have) and there was some frogs, sheep, turkeys, pigs and the locals friendly dogs. This cottage is a great base if you’re interested in visiting Isle of Skye it takes around an hour from the cottage. John and Mae were both incredibly friendly and welcoming, they were both attentive to any needs and always willing to assist with any inquiries or requests. Their easygoing nature and sincere care contribute to a truly memorable and pleasant stay. We felt incredibly comfortable throughout our stay couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The locals were also welcoming and friendly adding to the overall positive experience! In conclusion, this cottage offered an unforgettable experience. The combination of its beautiful views, peaceful surroundings, and comfortable accommodations made it a perfect getaway. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a serene and beautiful place to stay in the Scottish Highlands! :)

We made our booking at the last minute as we had to dodge bad weather where we live, to continue our holiday around the West Coast of Scotland.

We were more than pleased to arrive to find such a welcoming home----a home away from home. It was a perfect layout for an adult couple with a dog. We had a secure front garden that had the most spectacular sea views and views towards Skye. On my morning walks from the front door, all I had to do was to cross the road to be at the waterfront and further down, a pebble beach where I saw otters swimming. The bedding was good and comfortable, the lighting was good as well. Downstairs, we most enjoyed an open fire in the living room at night and a coal burner in the dining room which lead to the kitchen. Even as a cook, I found everything I needed to prepare meals from scratch. There isn't a large surface to prep food, but the kitchen has everything you would need, and a lovely new washing machine and (finally!) a tall fridge/freezer. There is a separate bathtub and a cubicle shower with an aerated Mira shower head which provides the extra !oomph! to the water pressure and it's a great experience. The owners provided us a wonderful welcome basket and the first thing we did was to sit outside and soak up the sun with some wine. Might I add that it was 3 degrees C, but thanks to a sun-trap front garden with a bench and table, we were able to find a wonderful area to sit and watch the sea. There is a busy road, but don't let that put you off as the garden is secure. The most convenient SPAR is located less than a 2 minute walk along the road. They have a great selection of food: fresh/vegan options/meats/ even Stornoway black pudding. A great selection of wine and spirits too and many local items that are often missed in the big stores. They had everything apart from logs/coal at that time, but in future, I am sure they will. Co-Op is just 3.7 miles away and they have everything for the fireplace and burner. From there, you can access the Skye Bridge easily and it's visible from the garden. Note: great photo opportunity when you see the moon above the Skye Bridge! The owner stopped by when he saw me in the garden just to make certain we were happy with our stay. What a joy. We will be back! Thank you sincerely, Nikki, Martin, Miles (woof)

Tigh Fasgaidh was as lovely, comfortable, roomy and full of character as the pictures suggested.

The kitchen was well equipped and pleasant to use. The secluded garden with morning and evening sun for breakfast and BBQ (with midges but we persevered!) was a nice surprise especially as the owners had provided new garden furniture in response to someone else's comment! A beautiful spot, very peaceful with views of hills around, dark skies and stars out of the top velux window, and a short walk from the shore, Manuela's bakery and PizzaJo's, with mouthwatering pastries, bread and pizzas, and of course Dornie with the Clachan Inn and village store. Just a shame there was no need to use the lovely wood burner as the weather was so warm! We had a wonderful week, with sunshine and no rain! If anything we found the cottage almost too warm at night, with lovely thick feather duvets, but they would be perfect for most Scottish weather! The only minor issue we had was an overflow from the upstairs shower onto the tiled bathroom floor. On investigation we found a clogged up filter in the shower drain so this was easily fixed and didn't happen again. Worth adding to the list for the cleaners to check each time, and making guests aware of in case it happens again. We also needed to buy more toilet rolls as we couldn't find any when the original ones ran out, but I think this was probably on the list of things to bring, and a small price to pay! Thanks again for such a lovely place to stay. It was perfect for my 60th birthday hillwalking treat with some of my grown up family and a good friend. I'd love to come back some time!

It’s a lovely house in a great spot for getting around the highlands and on to Skye.

Very quiet and peaceful (you occasionally hear the main road but only outside and it’s not intrusive). We only used the downstairs rooms as there were just 2 of us, although we did go upstairs to find more towels as 1 large towel each for a week when you can’t guarantee the weather to dry them is a bit tight. The water pressure and availability of hot water is excellent - the shower by the kitchen is fantastic. The kitchen is well fitted, including a dishwasher, although there was no dishwasher detergent (only salt) so we had to buy some (see below comment on last morning). The lounge is comfy and very roomy and we used my streaming services plus iPlayer to watch TV as standard terrestrial channels are not available. The bed we used and bedding were decent quality. We have already recommended the house to friends who also enjoy a Scottish holiday. My only ‘negative’ is the ask of guests to do housework on the last morning. We used to have an Airbnb and if guest chose to do any ‘cleaning’ it was a bonus, but we never asked and certainly didn’t have specific laundry baskets labelled for the task. We also always provided dishwasher tablets - 1 for each day of their stay. In my opinion stripping beds etc is not what people come on holiday to do. To be clear, we did it and often do, it is expectation / ask that I personally don’t like. As I say, we liked the house, have recommended it already and had a lovely stay overall.

We really enjoyed our visit to Rarsaidh holiday cottage, the location was spectacular, just amazing.

just a few points to note, I would consider essentials like, salt, pepper, cooking oil and kitchen roll to be at hand. This property is 10 miles from the closest shop which is not always open, ie closes for lunch daily and closes on sundays, and thereafter the closest coop is a 40 mile round trip. thankfully we took all these "essentials" but other travellers may not be so well prepared. other items deemed "desirable" like milk, coffee, tea and extra bin liners may also be considered. the local pub in wintertime is only open thursday to sunday and only the bar area, so there was no where to eat out at all. not a worry for us, but worth noting for you to take absolutely everything you need. we had a bit of a problem with the heating which took us a couple of days to figure out but we got there in the end. unfortunately the gas fire stopped working after 2 days in and we called out the estate manager to help. he was super helpful and came out immediately to hoover the soot out of the fire and it was solved quickly, he was really helpful in every way. otherwise our stay was excellent, we appreciated the rural nature of the property and if travellers bear that in mind when choosing to book it, they too will have a lovely stay.
