Dog Friendly Cottages In Nairn

The lovely town of Nairn is nestled on the coast in the Scottish Highlands. This spot has a lot to offer from sandy beaches, top notch golf, and easy reach to other Highland gems. So, why not base yourself here for a week of holiday fun; there is a selection of beautiful cottages to choose from.

As one of the driest and sunniest spots in Scotland, this Nairn is a great spot to enjoy Scotland's stunning beaches without the weather putting a damper on things. For the golf lovers among you, there are two excellent golf courses to choose from too. It’s worth checking out the events held here to see what you can catch on your visit; Highland Games anyone? If you’re staying a bit longer and want to explore further afield the Cairngorms, Whiskey Trail and Inverness are all within easy reach.

More dog-friendly locations in the Highlands

It's no surprise that the Highlands has been a popular holiday destination for so many years. Home to the UK's highest mountains and some of the most diverse terrain around, it's a fantastic place if you're looking for a dog-friendly break.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Dave - Verified booking

We had to cut our 2 week holiday short by some 5 days due to the pain caused to both my wife and myself by the bed.

When we arrived, we found the bed mattress to be so firm it was like lying on a concrete block! In all our years of using Sykes as a company which we relied on to provide us with a good holiday, we have never had anything like this before. No matter how hard you pressed, there was very little give on the mattress, and we were unable to rest comfortably without either of us being in pain as if we had slept on the floor. in fact, I have slept on floors in tents while camping right through to comfortable ‘posh’ hotel beds with no discomfort such as this caused. Due to the amount the holiday had cost us, along with the distance travelled to get there, we had pinned our hopes on this being an excellent break, so we endeavoured to stay as long as possible. Imagine my horror of finding my wife in tears on the Tuesday morning and being unable to move due to the pain, and with her being scared to try and sleep there any more, I decided it would be better to bring her home. When we first arrived, there was a terrible musty damp smell throughout and along with the musty smell, that others have also commented on in their reviews, in the kitchen we also found a mouse carcass along with a cardboard Rodent Trap/Bait Box for Mouse Poison Control by the boiler. I appreciate the wildlife problems that can happen and understand the problems therein, but to leave a carcass in the kitchen where food is prepared is certainly not in health and safety considerations or something your guests should experience. As you know, mouse droppings etc are enough for councils to close down establishments where food is prepared. The trap in the kitchen was very dirty and covered in grime as if it had been there for a very long time. This total experience has really soured our impression of the Sykes holiday experience we have enjoyed for many years. Sykes say that they have not had any complaints so if you have had any poor experience at this lodge I would advise you to complain so that things may improve for other visitors.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage.

We've stayed in cottages before where we have had to take all essentials with us so we turned up with our own towels, dog bowls & bed, washing up liquid, tin foil etc to find most of it (not washing powder/tin foil/cling film) was provided for us which was a lovely surprise. The kitchen is clean and airy, there's dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and all the utensils & cooking apparatus we needed. A lovely gift basket was left for us with treats for us and our dog which were very much appreciated. The living space is large enough for a family of 5 and the bedrooms are light and airy. There's an additional lounge upstairs for any teenagers who may want private time or to use as a playroom for smaller ones. There is a downstairs bedroom and the only bathroom/toilet is downstairs making this easily accessible for someone with mobility concerns. Parking is outside the front door which is also great! The garden was well kept but isn't fully enclosed with access down onto a small pebbly/sandy strip on the firth. You can walk along for about 10 minutes but we didn't explore further out onto the flats as it looked muddy and we didn't want to risk getting stuck. The location is great for peace and quiet but there are no amenities in Jemimaville. Cromarty is probably the closest village and it has a lovely beach and playing field, a shop, bakery and some gift shops. Would highly recommend the pottery. A short drive takes you to Rosemarkie and Fortrose and it doesn't take long to get down to Inverness or Nairn or in the other direction explore further north in Invergordon. Mairi our host is local and available as and when needed (not that we needed her) and was very helpful when we arrived and left. We look forward to staying again

We had a wonderful week at the Paye House.

The house is old (by a couple 100 years) so visitors should not expect modern accommodation. However, the kitchen was very functional and perfect for the four of us. The washing machine (which is also a dryer) worked and the bedrooms and baths were comfortable. We had a lovely time in Cromarty and did a lot of walking. The area is beautiful and we felt that a one-week holiday needed to be longer. A couple of recommendations: Upgrade the kitchenware, the knives are so dull they are hazardous. Some of the pots and pans were old and dirty. The floors in the house were a bit dirty, so a scrub between visitors would be great. Supplies were rather limited for a week stay, e.g., there were two rubbish bags provided but as a group of 4 we needed more. The rubbish bin was mostly full when we arrived. Despite these recommendations, I would return to the Paye house today, as the location and ambiance are wonderful.

We booked for a 3 night break at Burnside - which we extended to 4 nights.

A quiet location overlooking the Cromarty Firth towards Invergordon - great views from the lounge and kitchen. Warm and cosy with everything we needed. Lovely decor with local artwork displayed throughout. A welcome basket with a bottle of Prosecco, some Cromarty Brewery beer, local cheese, oatcakes and shortbread was much appreciated. Callie our dog was also spoilt with treats and her own bed. A short drive to Cromarty and the excellent beach at Rosemarkie and the dolphins at Chanonry Point. Mairi was a great host and could not do enough to make our stay truly memorable. A great place to base yourself, explore the Black Isle and places along the Moray coast. Highly recommended and look forward to staying again in the future.

There were some welcome touches such as provision of scatter cushions in the living room, ornaments and replacement dining room furniture.

Initially we found the bed to be very hard, not as we remembered from previous visits. We thought we were maybe imagining this but I then read the scathing complaint from a recent guest citing this issue. I contacted NTS at Brodie Castle and Kirsty Beange sorted the problem the same day by sourcing a new mattress topper (on a Sunday!). Once this was fitted there was a noticeable increase in comfort. This was much appreciated. Unfortunately, soon after our arrival, the weather turned unseasonably cold and we were more than glad of the wood-burning stove. It was used a lot more than we had anticipated! All in all, despite the poor June weather, we had another very pleasant stay at Cormack Lodge.
