What our customers say about their holidays
Jennifer - Verified booking
The property is lovely and comfortable.
The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The countryside is fabulous. It is really quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We really enjoyed the holiday. There are a couple of things that could be improved, however. Firstly, the cider vat looks great on the photos, but they are about 10 years old. Currently it is falling apart and mouldy. We could not sit in it. It would be better to get rid of it and put in some easy seating so you can sit looking over the sheep in the field. Particularly since that is the only view from the outside space. I do think the outside photos should be updated. I will put some on Google, as I can't put any on here. Things are rather more shabby now. For the sake of older and less agile visitors, a rail on at least one side of the outside steps would be helpful. Also non-slip mats and rails would be great in the showers. My mum was quite nervous, so had to buy a mat. The sink in the smaller en suite is so small that you can hardly clean your teeth. The mirror standing out over an inch doesn't help. Maybe something could be done. Also the beds were comfortable, but could do with mattress toppers as I could feel the springs. The smaller bedroom could also use more coat hooks or rails, as there was nowhere to hang dressing gowns or a second towel, as the towel rail isn't big enough. Please be advised to bring dish cloths and extra tea towels. Bring everything you need to cook because the only thing there is a table salt and pepper shaker. And if you want to use the dishwasher or washing machine, bring your own detergent. I always think that hosts should stay at their property for a night or two as if they were guests, bringing suitcases and cooking. That way they would see exactly what is needed. While these hosts try really hard, it would be good for them to try this, sleeping in the smaller room particularly. Overall this is a lovely property and we really enjoyed our stay. These things would just make it even better.

We arrived at The Cider House after a long drive and was pleasantly surprised with the location of the property and the well stocked house which had everything for your basic needs.
The welcome breakfast basket was very appreciated and filled with the farms local produce. A really warm and welcoming touch by our hosts who greeted us as we parked up as well as their two beautiful 10 month old collies. Alas our 8 yr old husky was not up for playing with them and preferred to laze away in the perfectly lawned and enclosed gardens. Once Trudie and Dominique had informed us of the farms workings and the nearby walks we were then left to enjoy our holiday but always on hand if anything was needed. As the weather for the week was very hot it was a relief to discover that the house kept relatively cool inside. It was nice to enjoy alfresco dining on the patio area as well. This is a working farm with sheep, stabled horses and farm machinery but noise levels were kept to a minimum and although a building extension was going on, again, the owners were very mindful of keeping noise to a minimum. The super king size bed was extremely comfortable and we slept really well all throughout our stay. The location was a good base to visit surrounding areas near and afar. We visited Tewksbury Abbey, shopped at Hereford with its majestic Cathedral and enjoyed the long walks around Symmonds Yat and Croft Castle Parklands. Broadway and Bourton on the Water are our favourite haunts for cream teas and gift shopping. We certainly recommend Cider House and are looking to return next year. A big thank you to Trudie and Dominique who couldnât do enough to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. We wish them all the best in what seems to be a relatively new venture.

Beautiful property with amazing facilities!
!! Myself and my partner booked the property 24hr in advance. We received email instructions with all relevant details. When we arrived at the home we had a secure garden (perfect for reactive dogs) 1/3 flags, 1/3 stones and 1/3 grass. This are was also connected to an area of additional grass which was separated by a gate but we had full use of the field(secured). Off this field there was more fields(bridleways/public foot paths etc) The property inside was clean, tidy and had all the equipment stocked that you could need. The host had stocked the fridge with some provision. A large dog bed, large bowl and dog packs were provided. The bed was comfy with the comfiest pillows. At night there is a dim sensor light outside and inside the bathroom as a safety precautions with the bathroom being at the top of the stairs. The bedroom was all open plan, large space, lots of natural light. The host provided a guide with local walks, pubs, shops, things to do etc. Along with the manuals to all appliances. Shops are local to the property. The Kingshead pub is a nice walk along the bridleway. Or a 10 minute drive. The most amazing food and staff. The fisherman's Arms is a beautiful quiet fishing spot with walks for the pooches and a cafe. The host was very polite and attentive. I have recommended this to family and friends and would definitely book again.

Excellent stay, especially at that price point.
Great cottage and owner, no complaints at all. However, the Sykes Cottages business model - six or seven useless spam emails after booking, while actual after-sales support is intentionally unreachable and useless, leaves a lot to be desired. I never received an actual invoice - email stating "we have received your payment" does not an invoice make. After asking for one to customer support email (there is no other email to be found), I got a reply in 7 days that "VAT Invoice is now requested for me" - and then nothing happened of course :-) Signed with first name only, with no email (sent from "no-reply"), and no phone number but the usual all-purpose answering machine that runs you around endless circles. A system intentionally made to be difficult for a paying customer. The only other approach point is webpage chat, which is "not available due to high demand" 24/7. What's the point of having it then? Thank god for booking.com. It would do a world of good for Sykescottages to go there and learn how to run a booking business.

We have had a lovely week relaxing in a great location.
Easy to find and accessible to lots of nearby places. Trudie greeted us when we arrived and explained about different things. After that we knew if we needed anything where to go but were left to enjoy our holiday which was just great. Having two en-suite bathrooms made life very easy. Yes the second bedroom sink isnât huge but it all worked for us. Plenty of storage space too. The kitchen was well equipped and the cooker worked well. It was also lovely and warm. The only thing we felt was the beds were very hard for us both. I know itâs so difficult to please everyone but I found sleeping quite difficult I think because I am used to the more modern mattress that seemed to suit most people not the sprung sort. That was the only thing I would change. Maybe itâs something to consider even if only one bedroom could be changed. Thank you so much for a lovely holiday. We hope to return again soon.
