What our customers say about their holidays
Jonathan - Verified booking
Just back from 4 nights, and would commend the owners on how they've put a lot of thought into how theyve stocked the lodge with endless kitchen utensils, high chair in one of the cupboards, and a play pen / folding cot for those with babies.
Score highly for thinking of our beloved 4 legged friends with a basket in the unit as you enter the lodge for dogs with spare blanket, bowls, water bottle and think a couple of toys (not that we used any of it as had taken own dog bowls and blankets etc). A bottle of wine on arrival, handful of tea and coffee and sugar with capsules of milk in the fridge was a nice touch for anyone that had travelled along way to get there. We had only travelled an hr from home to the lodge Will 100% recommend to all HOWEVER think the advert should be amended to mention the proximity of the M6 to the rear (the bedrooms) of the lodge, a couple of bushes and a row of trees on a sound bank and reckon less than 20 metres from the M6. We could hear the traffic and that's in October with the windows obviously closed. So with windows on vent or open in Summer months then you will 1000% hear the M6. The site was pretty empty during our stay (4th-8th Oct). Think the advert also needs to mention the none existent lighting on the site, again probably not an issue in Summer months but it was pitch black when we went. Granted the owners did leave 2 head torches in a basket of leaflets about local attractions BUT still think it should mention the lack of lighting on the site. Also the on site pub restaurant has strange opening hrs, last food ordered/served 15.45 on a Sunday which was a shock. Think the property needs a little bit of TLC as few things not working, but we left a note for the owners and saw that others had done the same in the past. 10000% nicer site than Haven sites we have stayed on and had the major advantage of next to no kids on site. We would still book again and are thinking of doing so for May 2025.

A very warm welcome greeted us on arrival.
Tea & coffee making facilities were provided, as were half a dozen eggs laid by the hens which can be regularly seen in the woods around the back of the cottage. The hosts could not have been more helpful and the cottage is comfortable, quiet and cozy. All facilities were first-rate and we had the added bonus of the Tour of Britain (cycle race) passing right outside our front-door during our stay. The wi-fi is a little patchy at times, but perfectly serviceable if you're not expecting to stream 4k video etc - you are out in the middle of nowhere after all ! The local pub (Fetherstone Arms) in Kirkoswald serves excellent food and ale - we didn't get to try the Crown Inn across the road. There is a local shop in Kirkoswald for the basics and a well-stocked Co-op in nearby Lazonby which is a 30 min walk from Kirkoswald (with a few sizable but manageable hills to navigate). The woods situated in the grounds of the house are not accessible to guests but there are lots of lovely countryside walks that we enjoyed with our dog. The Lakes District and North Pennines are a short drive away, but even if you simply walk up to the top of the hill - the views are nothing short of sensational. Overall we would highly recommend a stay at the Coach House whether you want to explore the local scenery or just chill out and get some peace and quiet. We will certainly consider returning again next year. Finally - thanks to our hosts for such a pleasant stay.

This place is a perfect dog friendly getaway!
! From start to finish we enjoyed every minute. The lodge is very clean, comfortable, well equipped and a great location. The park has traffic barriers so you do have to walk from the entrance where the Waters Edge Restaurant is to the lodge when you arrive to get the key and the fob and walk back again so you can get in but its all of 5 - 10 mins to sort. The owners go above and beyond to make your stay perfect and the welcome pack with all the essentials like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and wine is a fabulous touch. I cooked a full breakfast whilst there and wasn't struggling with anything - plenty cutlery, utensils, plates, cups, etc. Even a dishwasher to do all the washing up for you with a couple of tabs provided by the owners! We ate at the Waters Edge restaurant twice, had better steaks elsewhere and the full English breakfast doesn't come with toast but not the end of the world. Two local pubs - Hawks Head and The Malt Shovel, food was really good, well worth a visit and both dog friendly. The little beach by the Waters Edge is great and a fabulous place to enjoy playing in the sand and the water. The M6 is directly behind the lodge, which honestly didn't bother us day or night - any comments that its noisy and disturbing are certainly not true. I would highly recommend this place and will certainly be booking again.

We were not actually on holiday.
We live in a nearby village and used Daffodil Cottage as somewhere to live while we had a new kitchen fitted. I would not recommend the cottage for a holiday as it has no garden or view. However the pub and fish and chip shop (which also does Chinese takeaways) are useful. The kitchen is adequately equipped but only just (more spoons, especially serving spoons would be helpful). The bedroom is small and so has a small 4ft6in bed but there is plenty of storage space in it. More information about parking would have been helpful: it took us a couple of days to realise that the 'No Parking' sign in front of the cottage did not apply to us. However parking in the square (where there are useful shops) is free but there are not always spaces available. There are plenty of attractions in the area which is why we live here. Grange-over-Sands is a reasonable shopping place but I often wonder why tourists like it as the 'Sands' are not 'bucket and spade' beaches but dangerous areas with mud and quick-sands.

We had a lovely stay at 'Fortress'. The cottage is part of a handsome Barn conversion with a view over the garden. It was easy to find, and is in an excellent location, close to Carlisle but in peaceful countryside near to Hadrian's Wall. Fortress was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It is well furnished and a great deal of care has clearly gone in to making it a cosy and relaxing place to stay. We appreciated all the little extras, (including a bottle of wine!), and the friendly welcome from Anne and Jonathan. Everything is well thought out. There are designated parking and outdoor spaces for each of the holiday cottages. There is a laundry room with washers and dryers which is great for muddy walkers: providing detergent and conditioner was a thoughtful extra. Anne and Jonathan (and family) went above and beyond to provide a relaxing and problem-free holiday, We would highly recommend Bleatarn Park to any holiday maker, and we hope to return soon.
