Fair Rigg Old Farm is highly praised for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful, secure gardens, ideal for dogs. The AGA cooking experience is a highlight, and the property's cleanliness and comfort are frequently commended. Its location offers great local walks and is central for touring. While some guests mention minor issues, the overall sentiment is extremely positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
Most reviews describe the property as clean and well-prepared for guests. However, a few guests encountered issues with flies and unclean kitchen drawers, slightly affecting the overall cleanliness score.
The property's location is generally appreciated for its nice local walks and central position for touring. Some guests, however, noted traffic noise, which detracted from the otherwise serene setting.
Guests find the property comfortable, with special mentions of the warm AGA, comfortable beds, and cosy atmosphere. The only minor discomfort noted was the warmth from the AGA during summer and low ceilings.
The property's facilities, especially the kitchen and AGA, are well-received. However, some guests noted a lack of sharp knives, a small TV, and the absence of a downstairs toilet, suggesting room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.
Guests frequently mention a welcome pack, which adds a thoughtful touch to their stay. It is important to note that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every visit.
The final approach to Fair Rigg Old Farm is down a narrow private lane. Guests arrive at the cottage, as is typical with most farmhouses, through the back porch that opens to the welcoming farmhouse kitchen with open plan dining area. Guests will immediately be struck by the character of the cottage and the detail of the presentation and period features. A welcoming sitting room has comfortable sofas and armchairs arranged in front of the cosy log burning stove and TV. To the side there is a attractive study/reading room. The traditional and characterful stairs lead to the first floor and a choice of three of the four bedrooms the cottage has top offer and these three bedrooms are complemented by a smart shower room and bathroom. A further flight of stairs lead to the top floor and the master bedroom suite with its own superb ensuite bathroom with feature bath.
The historic, South Lakeland village of Cartmel is renowned as the prettiest village in the Lake District. The Priory Church, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in the north of England, remains the heart of the community with its gatehouse forming the entrance to the village. The village features pretty streamside walks, quaint cobbled streets littered with antique shops, a charming gift shop, welcoming, traditional pubs serving real ale, the nationally acclaimed, Michelin Star awarded L'Enclume restaurant, and the Cartmel Village shop, which sells the famous sticky toffee pudding. Take advantage of excellent walking opportunities amidst beautiful, unspoilt countryside, visit The National Hunt Racecourse, Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition, Lakeland Motor Museum and Holker Hall with its spectacular gardens, all of which are close by. The quiet seaside retreat of Grange-over-Sands, with its Edwardian buildings and mountain backdrop, is a mere 2 miles away, whilst Windermere, with its panoramic views over England's longest lake, is within a thirty minute drive. A superb holiday destination, at any time of year.
