A lovely, semi-detached cottage, attached to the owners home, on a working livestock farm, situated in the hamlet of Pennington, three miles from Ulverston near The Cumbria Way. Tucked away in a quiet corner of Cumbria, it is a great touring base from which to explore this lovely part of the country. This traditional cottage has a well-equipped kitchen and dining area on the ground floor, with an open plan staircase leading up to a cosy sitting room with a woodburning stove, just the ticket for cooler evenings whilst planning the next day's adventure. There are also two comfortable bedrooms on this floor, one double and one twin, together with a bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Outside this lovely cottage is a patio where you can enjoy dining alfresco, or relax with a refreshing drink whilst discussing the days adventures. The character town of Ulverston is a pleasant three-mile drive, with superb views across the estuary. It plays host to many festivals throughout the year and one of its claims to fame is its connection with Stan Laurel, who was born here. From the cottage there is a country road which meanders through to Coniston and is an absolute delight, affording breathtaking views towards the Coniston Fells, and passing through quaint Cumbrian villages with traditional pubs and attractive slate cottages. As well as lovely local beaches, including Roan Head Beach, there is also a large nature reserve. Another place to visit is Birkrigg Common, strewn with ancient remains and a fascinating place to walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The Cumbria Way lies very close to the cottage so you can choose whether to walk into Ulverston or, for the intrepid walker, head towards Coniston. A lovely cottage to be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Pennington is a small hamlet with a scattering of dwellings, farms and country pubs, situated on the beautiful Lake District Peninsula, an area of tranquillity, gentle hills and unspoilt walking country. Locally, the start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths can be located, and the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn are renowned locally for their fine ales and good food. Pennington's nearby neighbour, Ulverston, is an ancient market town that still holds a street market every Thursday and Saturday. Today, the town is well known as a Festival Town, with events throughout the year, and as the birthplace of Stan Laurel - it is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world! Facilities include a wide range of independent shops, pubs, restaurants, a cinema and a leisure centre.
