About this property

Leek 2 miles. Tucked away on a working farm in the small village of Meerbrook, near Leek, North Staffordshire, is the delightful detached barn conversion, South Hillswood Booth. Boasting spectacular views of The Roaches and the surrounding Peak District countryside, South Hillswood Booth is a beautiful rural retreat for a large family or friends gathering to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, within easy access of the famous Rudyard Lake, Buxton and Ashbourne. As you approach the property via the private single-track lane, you will find ample parking outside of the house for six cars, before unloading your bags and stepping into the property to leave any coats and shoes in the original flag stone hallway. Look forward to cosying up in the generous living/dining room, where you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst enjoying your favourite film on the TV, all within the warmth of the woodburning stove set beautifully in an exposed stone inglenook. Gather around the dining table, which can accommodate all guests, and enjoy planning out the days ahead over your favourite evening tipple. Nominate yourself as Head Chef and enjoy whipping up culinary delights in the well-equipped kitchen, which has additional dining seating and a dishwasher, making cleaning up a breeze! It will be difficult not to marvel at the impressive exposed wooden beams which make an appearance throughout the property, and hark back to the property's heritage stemming from the 1800s. Moving through the property, you will discover a double bedroom on the ground floor, that is conveniently located near the ground floor shower room. Climbing the stairs, you will discover an additional three bedrooms, the first being a spacious super-king-size with zip/link, then a double with a trundle bed, and another double, ensuring flexible sleeping arrangements for all parties. Enjoy indulging in a long soak in the bath after a day of exploring the peaks, the perfect way to freshen up for the evening in style. Outside you can sip on your morning coffee and enjoy expansive views overlooking The Roaches or treat your party to an alfresco lunch at the lovely dining table in the rear garden. There is also plenty of storage for bikes after exploring the local cycle trails. Take a stroll along Tittesworth Reservoir, down to the village of Meerbrook, where if cooking isn’t on the agenda for the evening, you can enjoy a delicious meal and local ales at The Lazy Trout pub. If you’re looking to get out on the water, there is the Tittesworth Water Sports and Activity Centre, where you can experience kayaking, paddle-boarding, canoeing and on-land activities such as hill walking experiences where there are walks for all abilities, from short circular walks to hikes to Roaches Skyline and Ludds Church. Just a short drive away is the charming market town of Leek, otherwise known as “The Queen of the Moorlands”, where you can expect a good selection of shops, a variety of pubs and restaurants where you can dine, local parks and leisure facilities, all surrounded by its impressive Victorian architecture. From here you can access the tourist favourites of Chatsworth House, Gawsworth Hall and Buxton Opera House. For a day of thrills, treat the family to a day at the well-known Alton Towers theme park, where there are an array of rides, attractions and amusements to ensure a memory-filled day. Just a little further is the spa town of Buxton, home to Buxton water, where you can indulge in the arts with a host of music, theatre and festivals on offer throughout the year, take a romantic stroll through the beautiful ornamental gardens, or explore the magnificent natural wonder of Pooles Cavern, a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave. Leek offers its visitors a good-selection of shops, an array of restaurants and pubs serving fresh and local produce, a local park and leisure facilities, all within its charming cobbled streets speckled with impressive Victorian architecture.
