Set within over three acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the quiet hamlet of Trill, Trill Cottage is one of five Grade II listed stone-built cottages that make up Little Trill. This serene rural setting, just outside the village of Musbury, offers a safe and picturesque environment where children can explore freely and adults can unwind while taking in the stunning Devon countryside.
The cottage is full of character and charm, with traditional furnishings and original features throughout. Exposed beams, flagstone floors, and a large inglenook fireplace with a woodburner create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the lounge and dining area. The ground floor also includes a well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast table, ideal for leisurely mornings, and a wet room with shower, WC, and basin. Entry to the cottage is via five steps down to the front door, adding to its cosy, tucked-away feel.
Upstairs, Trill Cottage comfortably accommodates up to six guests across three bedrooms: one double and two twin rooms, making it perfect for families or small groups. A family bathroom on this floor includes a bath with shower over, WC, and basin.
Guests are welcomed with a thoughtful arrival pack featuring milk, tea, and a selection of locally sourced treats to help you settle in and start your holiday with ease.
Just a mile away, the village of Musbury lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a shop and a welcoming pub, ideal for picking up essentials or enjoying a hearty meal. The surrounding area is a haven for walkers and nature enthusiasts, with access to the South West Coastal Path and the dramatic Jurassic Coastline. Nearby hill forts such as Musbury Castle and Lamberts Castle provide panoramic views and a glimpse into the region’s rich history.
For those looking to explore further, Lyme Regis is only fiver miles away and offers a vibrant mix of attractions including the iconic Cobb Harbour, local galleries, eateries, the Lyme Regis Aquarium, Marine Theatre, and town museum. Seaton is another nearby gem, with its mile-long beach, Wetlands Centre, and scenic tramway along the River Axe. Beer and Lyme Regis are a few minutes away in a car and the local pub is friendly. Basics were to be found at the local garage, either a five minute drive or a highly recommended and beautiful walk away. There are a few bit that could be better but overall it was a beautiful base for a lovely holiday. Some of the furniture was broken (although usable) and the lack of usable Wi-Fi made itself felt with two teenagers in the house. The road in is pretty awful too, but take it slowly and watch out for the potholes and youâll be fine. Donât let this put you off though, being a bit off the beaten track puts you right in heart of the countryside. The local wildlife was a constant joy, with red deer, birds of prey and a menagerie of other species all making an appearance in the beautiful grounds. For eating out River cottage is just around the corner (if you havenât been, go, itâs incredible) and the local pub serves good honest food too. Faultless? No but the positives of Trill far outweigh any of itâs faults. Highly recommend!

The nearest town of Axminster is a few miles and has a major supermarket, pubs, restaurants and take-aways. The cottage itself is cosy with a working woodburner in the open sitting room (logs can be bought at the local garage in Musbury). Just down the lane is a footpath across open fields so ideal for dogs! Overall a relaxing few days and great place to stare at the stars away from the business of everyday life!
