Guests say

Bar Hill Lodge is a charming, secluded property surrounded by forest, offering guests a peaceful retreat with abundant wildlife and scenic walks. The cottage is described as comfortable and well-equipped, with a secure garden that is ideal for dogs. Guests have enjoyed the natural setting and the opportunity to relax in a cosy environment.

The lodge received mixed feedback on cleanliness. Some guests found it warm and cosy, while others suggested it could benefit from a thorough cleaning. The presence of a stale odour in one of the bedrooms was mentioned.

The location is highly praised for its edge-of-forest setting, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife watching and walking. The tranquillity and natural beauty of the surroundings are consistently appreciated by guests.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a well-loved and welcoming atmosphere. However, some noted that the double bedroom could be more romantic and that the absence of a proper shower unit could be improved for added comfort.

The property is considered well-equipped, but several reviews suggest the need for cosmetic upgrades and modernisation. The lack of a proper shower and issues with mobile phone signal and broadband were noted drawbacks.

While guests have mentioned receiving a nice message upon arrival, there are no specific references to gifts or additional thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to score this category.

Arrived on a cold wet October afternoon. The cottage was cold and smelled of damp. There was one radiator available to turn on, the others are operated remotely so can’t be switched on at the cottage. There was a small quantity of coal for the open fire but no kindling, paper or firelighters to start the fire. We usually hope that that the owners may provide milk as a welcome but the fridge was empty. There was one dishwasher tablet provided. About to use the coffee maker until I noticed that it contained cloudy, stale water so didn’t use it. Although it is clearly stated in the particulars that there is no shower we found this a disadvantage. We looked into the upstairs bedroom but because my son had to make other arrangements at short notice we didn’t use this room. It felt damp and smelled musty. I see from the visitors book that some guests return so we all have differing expectations. We wouldn’t return.

Peaceful little haven in the woods.

The cottage is in a lovely location. However the cottage itself is not in ideal condition with both bedrooms smelling of damp, the bedroom upstairs being very bad. We would not have stayed if we had to use that room. All in all the property requires modernisation and some tlc.
