This Llyn Peninsula historic holiday cottage is a beautifully and distinctively restored 18th century longhouse, stylish and cosy, attached to an Elizabethan farmhouse, Hen Dy. The owners live in the nearby farmstead, an excellent source of local information. Decor and furnishings throughout are an eclectic mixture of Scandinavian, French and Welsh influences. Warm, intimate living room with book-lined walls and a gallery and a large comfortable kitchen with Aga, cushioned wall seating and small sash windows. A trout stream meanders through the owner’s land and is ideal for fishing and there is a cycle track just 200 yards away.

Take a peaceful walk/cycle ride along the wide hard surfaced scenic pathway with views of Snowdonia and the Llyn mountains dramatically descending to the sea, which runs 100 yards from cottage, originally the railway track from Porthmadog down into Caernarfon, 12 miles. Criccieth, just 6 miles away, is overlooked by its medieval castle and has golden beaches, lots of good places to eat, a wide range of local amenities and not forgetting delicious ice creams.

Ty Hir can be booked together with Hen Dy (QC56) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Nice place, despite the aga heat on the hottest week of the year. Friendly owner who was close by if needed. Wine and cakes were a nice touch. Thank you

Nice quiet break in an interesting, quirky long house. Lots of interesting books to read and artefacts. The AGA is great once we got used to it. Dog proof garden with plenty of space. Cycle track on old railway route great for walks. Owners left Welsh cakes and wine which was really appreciated. Not too far to Porthmadog and it's amenities or picturesque Criccieth.

Ty Hir is a really beautiful cottage, in a good location for lots of beautiful spots on the Llyn Peninsula. There's plenty of room, and a decent sized garden for the dog. The only downsides were that the property was absolutely freezing, as the heating only came on for limited periods (we were there over New Year), and the internet only worked in the kitchen. Bathroom would benefit from a shower curtain too. I imagine it would be absolutely lovely in Spring and Summer though. Porthmadog is about a 10 minute drive away and has everything you need in terms of supermarkets and basic facilities. We enjoyed Llanbedrog beach and Abersoch, Criccieth beach, Portmeirion (a must visit if you haven't been before), Beddgelert (a lovely little place) and a spectacular drive through Snowdonia. Lots of castles within easy reach too.
