What our customers say about their holidays

The Anchorage is easy to find, a short distance from the A1, south of Dunbar.
There is a bit of road noise at the front of the house but not intrusive. The house is warm, comfortable, homely and clean. There is a spectacular view from the back of the house, which one could never be disappointed with. Excellent information packs and leaflets covering everything in the house and places to go. The house is well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Guests are supplied with hand wash, washing up liquid, washing liquid, toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, dish cloth and pan scrubber together with a lovely little welcome pack. However, remember to bring milk, tea, coffee, bread etc. The lounge furniture is comfortable and there are plenty of books, dvds and games to entertain guests as well as good tv and wifi reception. The dining table in the lounge was our favourite place for meals so we could continue to enjoy the view. The first floor double beds are comfortable and the bedding cosy. The owner may like to consider providing makeup mirrors in each of these bedrooms as putting on makeup was a bit of a challenge with the mirrors available . The towels are lovely and soft. The hot water is very hot so care is needed. We found the showers small and rather claustrophobic so used the bath instead. A rubber bath mat would be useful to have available. The temperature setting on the first floor showers had been set to max, which considering the very hot water there could be a risk of scalding. I turned both of these down to minimum temperature which was safer for future guests. The fridge and freezer in the garage were easy to access though both could benefit from a clean out. The garden in winter looked a bit sad and untidy and could benefit from a little tlc. The fence by the garage has become loose in the strong winds and just needs refixing to the supports. We would love to come back to The Anchorage next year as we enjoyed our stay immensely. There are plenty of wonderful places to walk, visit and eat in the surrounding area.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Anchorage.
This is not just a holiday property, it feels home from home. Extremely well equipped with quality furnishings, the two large sofas are great for relaxing on. Comfy beds and several options on dining tables in the property. My wife found numerous running routes from the property so if you enjoy a daily run or walk this may suit you. Just beware some muddy paths. In the interests of honesty and transparency the only things I'd suggest considering for improvements are: A clothes airer would have been useful. We personally love crisp white bedding which gives a quality feel. Patten bedding feels old fashion and makes it feels as if your staying at Grans. Upgrading the open fire for a log burner. 85% of heat from an open fire goes up the chimney. Where as a modern log burner, you get 80% of the heat into the room. Which would make that living room really cosy on a winter's evening. Overall we had a truly fantastic week and really wasn't ready to leave. Thank you for our stay.

Allowing for the fact itâs an old property it still needs some updated tlc, such as the shower cubicles need updating , as there was mould on the sealant and corner of the door frames.
Some of the bedroom and bathroom windows were permanently closed and had tape on them . Outside , the front garden was untidy with weeds and other items such as an empty large gas canister. First impressions count and the front just looked unkept . The rear garden is small and only has a seating area for two chairs and a table on a small decking area, so a larger family wouldnât be able to sit and eat outdoors. However the view out to sea from here was lovely. The kitchen doors that lead out to this rear garden could do with a mesh screen or similar, so that you could still enjoy the view with doors open ,but prevent the bugs from flying in. On the positive side, when we had a problem with the hot water not working, the owner did respond quickly by talking us through how to re-pressurise the system and then arranged for a heating engineer to attend. Also the house was comfortable, warm, well stocked and in a good location to tour the area from.

Just returned from a lovely week spent at 1 Smiths Wind. Perfect home in an ideal location in the middle of Jedburgh, right off the main street but quiet. So many areas to visit in the local and surrounding areas. We took our 8 month old puppy on his first holiday and he was in his element in the house, not to mention a couple of the local pubs! Everything you could ask for on your doorstep, with handy private parking space just round the corner. Mary Queen of Scots house just a few steps away. The house itself had everything we needed (and more) and was well equipped to a high standard, just like being at home. Friendly neighbours and lovely owner who was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here and will definitely return.
