What our customers say about their holidays

Firstly it is not clear which building the apartment is in as the building access is not in Belyars lane but the next road up The keysafe instructions are of no use!
! We could not find the box⦠no labelling, not in the position described. Had to ring the owner for more direction. He admitted its in a ridiculous position⦠Its about 9inches off the floor so very difficult to use . Old model with no visible numbers( mind you youâd have to lay on the floor to see them!!) Very very frustrating after a 7 hour journey!! Then issues to put keys back into it when we left. Couldnât get box closed and again had to ring owner. Mainly down to the position of it! Finally managed it only then the next day to be accused by the owner of putting the wrong keys in the box!! How is that possible when they were the keys we used all week to get in and out of the apartment . He said a locksmith had had to be called at a cost of £80 to fix lock . We re awaiting more detail but have not had a reply from him This has totally put a huge negative on any thoughts of staying at this place again The other negatives are no change of towels or laundry in a week. You couldnât wash what you had as no spare to use in the meantime. No iron even though there is an ironing board and no code for shed to put rubbish into although there is instruction to do that as you leave⦠yet another frustration! .. searched high and low for a code!! A lot more thought and attention needs to be put into the things above as things like key issues create stress and frustration. Very little information left about the area and most that there is is for childrenâs activities Not a property for those with limited agility as many steep hills up from the seafront and parking in St Ives is impossible We wonât be returning to this property due to the issues and accusation but will definitely return to St Ives

Positives: An immaculate property well-placed location wise.
The property was very clean on arrival and check in was easy through communication with sykes holidays. Sea views from upper floors, especially the top floor. Really lovely. Parking space right next to the property makes life easy. Beds were comfy and plenty of towels for each person which we appreciated. Safety lights in corridors helpful for children or elderly people in the night. The kitchen overall was very well stocked with high quality items including pans, glasses etc. The shower didn't drain but we contacted sykes and it was fixed the same day. We cannot complain at the speed they came. They also brought the high chair. Points to consider: The property was down as having a high chair but when we arrived it wasn't there. We arrived too late to do anything on the Saturday as offices were closing and had to wait until Monday when the offices opened. If you desperately need something, perhaps worth calling in advance to check it'll be there. Pleased with how it was manages. The parking space is right next to a busy roundabout. You just have to be really careful and would recommend reversing in. The kitchen and house are lacking some essentials that we felt are important. Might seem small, but there is no peeler or scissors. We were left with no bin bags nor did we have hand soap in the upstairs bathrooms. There were anti bac wipes but no kitchen cleaner. Finally no clothes airer. It rained for most of the week so we couldn't dry clothes easily. When it was sunny, we tried to use the line outside but that was also broken. As I say, small things that didn't limit our enjoyment but just perhaps need a quick look at.

It's a pleasant light-filled property with lots of space inside for two visitors (and a dog).
The view towards Godrevy is lovely but the road right outside the apartment is busy and noisy which spoils the tranquility of the scene. The garden is enclosed but one side of the lawn has a drop down to the paved area underneath the balcony, this is not obvious from the way it has been photographed. At one point the drop is nearly 5 feet high. My friend was keen to stay at the property because it has a garden which her dog could play in (given the summertime 'no dogs' restrictions on local beaches in St Ives and Carbis Bay). However, because of the drop it wasn't safe to let him run around. It rained while we were staying and, as the large balcony and steps up to it are made of decking boards, it became very slippery especially as there were a lot of dead leaves on the balcony. The wooden steps are very steep, like the ones on a ferry. The alternative access to the balcony is via picturesque but uneven stone steps up through shrubs on to the balcony. The stone steps could well prove difficult for anyone with mobility problems. When we arrived we initially didn't realise all of the appliances in the kitchen area had been turned off including the boiler and the fridge freezer. The instructions in the manual need to be clearer as to what should be left on or switched off. As has been noted by other visitors, the duvets supplied in the property are too hot for summer time and the bed in the main bedroom is made uncomfortable due to a hole or large dip in the mattress. For security reasons, it would be reassuring to have a bolt or lock on the wooden door giving access to the property's outside space from the road.

This is our first time staying at Porthia flat and on Island road, having visited St Ives for many years. The accommodation is lovely, and perfect size for 2 (& dog), with all you'd need for a comfortable holiday. The electrical equipment all looks quite new and clean, Smart Tv in front room and bedroom, microwave, Oven, Fridge, with enough room throughout to not feel cramped. The Bathroom is quite tired, and could do with an update. Some tiles look to be coming away from the walls, some of the fixtures are starting to rust, and some mould around the grout and curtain rail. I am 6ft 2" and cannot stand up fully in the shower by approximately 1 inch (rest of the bathroom is fine) as my head is on the shower ceiling, meaning the shower head is face height. There is also a small step out of the shower which is not big enough for a towel, so always wet/slippery when showering, which some may struggle with. However the water was always hot when required, easy to use, sink and toilet were clean. We found the front door lock to be intermittent and took several attempts for the barrel to actually engage and lock the door from both directions. We also found Island road to be very busy with people on foot, and vehicles up and down most of the time. Our first couple of days we never really noticed anyone above, but I think they may have changed over half way through as it got louder and more noticeable towards the end of the week. All in all, I would give 8/10 and definitely recommend Porthia flat to couples wanting to get away.

"Our experience at Beachcomber and booking through Carbis Bay holidays was exceptional.
This is the first time for many years that we spent our vacation in the UK and the first time we have visited Cornwall and we were not disappointed. The weather was also very good which was an added bonus. The service from Carbis Bay Holidays was hassle free from start to finish. All information that we could possibly need was provided before and during our stay. When a problem occurred during the bank holiday we got an immediate response and everything was taken care of with a smile and without any fuss. Beachcomber is ideally located to travel around the popular towns and is perfectly situated for a walk to the beech or to get the train. With regards the Beechcomber property, this is a credit to the owners - Perfect in every way. The view from the property and surrounding area is breathtaking. Every little detail was thought of, from the lovely gifts on arrival, a very nice touch, to the furnishing inside and outside of the property. The whirlpool bath and Nespresso coffee machine provide a little touch of luxury. We have travelled all over the world and Beachcomber would be listed as one of our favourite places." J. & G. Dalziel
