Dog Friendly Winchcombe Holiday Cottages

Winchcombe is a beautiful historic town in the Cotswolds Hills of Gloucestershire, most well known for its old buildings, some dating back to the town's founding in Anglo-Saxon times. If you like history, some must-sees include Sudeley Castle with its ruins and gardens, as well as the Belas Knap long barrow and of course the local museum. For long walks with your canine companion, try the Cotswold Way or hike up to the ruins of Spoonley Wood Roman Villa. You'll also find lots of independent shops to browse, including stores selling local produce, antiques, or crafts.

At Dog Friendly Cottages, we want to make sure your pup is always welcome on your adventures. That's why we offer a great range of dog-friendly cottages in Winchcombe. For large groups or families, we have spacious barn conversions and quaint farmhouses with plenty of space for everyone. For more private getaways we also have luxury cabins and romantic cottages.

Our Winchcombe dog-friendly cottages are ideal for making the most of the Cotswolds. Winchcombe has plenty to offer, but you'll also find Cheltenham only 20 minutes away, with the famous Cheltenham Festival and plenty more sights to see along with great places to eat and drink. Or enjoy a quiet evening in one of Winchchombe's traditional countryside pubs.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Rob - Verified booking

The property is well situated for the lovely walks in Winchcombe.

However, it's not the most comfortable cottage we've stayed in. First, the positive things. The beds are comfortable and there is good water pressure. The kitchen is well-lit and mostly had the things we needed. There were several things that made it a less than ideal cottage though. Firstly, the top two bedrooms have large velux windows directly over the beds measuring perhaps 3 feet by 4 feet. Unfortunately, there aren't any blinds over these, so the rooms are flooded with bright sunlight the moment the sun rises. So, don't expect to get any sleep the moment it's dawn, which was an issue for us in the spring - and I can imagine it will only get brighter in the summer. Secondly, the two-seater sofa felt rather thin, narrow and inexpensive - certainly not amongst the more comfortable ones that we have had. We often decided to lie on the comfortable beds when reading as the thin sofa was actually a bit uncomfortable to sit on for long. In the lounge, there is also only a two-seater and two armchairs plus two floor cushion / foot stool type things. So, if you are a party of six, some of you will have to sit on floor cushion / foot stools. The house is also on a street that counts as fairly busy for a small town. We go away to a lot of cottages, so we know what life is like in small towns and villages, but in this property we were quite aware of traffic noise early in the morning (maybe 6am) when delivery vehicles were dropping off at the supermarket across the road.

Beautifully presented and tucked away off the main high street, everything you could need for a self catering holiday, the wine, biscuits and milk was a lovely treat, and the dog biscuits and cosy bed was definitely appreciated by our 4 legged companion.

The cottage is an excellent base to explore all that’s on offer in Winchcombe and the surrounding areas from all the well sign posted walking and the heritage steam railway to Sudley castle. The lack of parking wasn’t an issue the long stay car park at a £1.00 day is a 5 minute walk, and loading and unloading the car was achieved by on road parking where you have a hours stay. There is a local shop right opposite the entrance which was handy and a few public houses serving food. The courtyard garden however is not sole use, which was a shock when we returned back to find a party sat right in front of the French windows, it appears to be shared with the postmaster’s accommodation, it is not just access as advertised, so privacy was a issue, it was very hot and we had to keep the dog indoors and keep the French doors closed which wasn’t ideal, there is two tables in separate places but only 4 chairs and said party took them all and a bench; so be aware especially if you have a dog this is a shared open space, with potentially up to 6 people in the accommodation linked to the cottage, there was a little noise from the pub beer garden a few doors down but not late at night and was only because we were blessed with beautiful weather and everyone was sat outside.

    Great location.

Well equipped and warm. Good downstairs space. Nice welcome pack. Reasonable price. Generally clean and tidy but cobwebs in corners and dust on beams etc. One of the beds had lots on long black hairs on the sheet when we pulled back the duvet (so we were not sure if the bed covers had been changed on that bed). We washed it before use! It's an old property so it has creaky floors upstairs (that's ok). Some of the downstairs walls appear to have rising damp (blown plaster and flaky paint). The downstairs shower room was a bit mouldy on the upper walls and the shower head riser was broken (but usable). Water seeped through the wall above the sink when it rained heavily. The patio gate needs some attention, also the imposing bush next to it which restricts access. There was tea and coffee provided in caddies but the coffee was part solidified so it may have been there a while! Not a problem as we used our own. Overall it's a great location but the property needs some investment and TLC.

Winchcombe is an excellent base for this part of the Cotswolds.

A lovely town with plenty of options for eating and shopping. We did several walks from Winchcombe and they were great. Winchcombe really does welcome walkers! The cottage was perfect for the three of us. It helped that the weather was glorious so we could make use of the small patio garden. We were confused about when to put the bins out. Clearer instructions needed, maybe a sticker on the appropriate bins? A few more comfortable outdoor chairs wouldn't go amiss as it was nice to sit outside in the evening and in the conservatory. We had no issues with the upstairs shower. We ate out a lot - highly recommend the fish and chip shop. The kitchen was fine, maybe a couple of washing up sponges could be provided as we didn't use the dishwasher. We didn't have a car but made use of the local bus to get to Chipping Camden. We managed to get to Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water by bus too. We had a great time and would stay in Mouse Hole cottage again.
