What our customers say about their holidays

Had a lovely stay at the Nail Shed celebrating our wedding anniversary.
We were impressed with the facilities. The underfloor heating throughout was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked and the cottage is beautifully furnished. The owners were welcoming and we enjoyed our welcome drinks in the Anvil Inn adjacent to the property. We ate there on both nights of our stay and have to say the fillet steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection. The pub has a cosy feel to it with wood burning stoves in each room. We travelled with our dog and the owner was helpful in suggesting local walks. We visited Cayton Bay which was a beautiful unspoilt stretch of sand for him to run around on. If I was to provide any constructive criticism it would be that the hanging area in the wardrobes could do with being a little higher and I also think the listing could be expanded to include things like hairdryer, tea, coffee provided as these were things I packed unnecessarily as I couldnât be sure from the listing. I also think as itâs a pet friendly cottage, the provision of dog bowls for food and water might be welcome (I forgot to pack these but have found them provided previously!). Very minor niggles but all in all a wonderful stay.

Pros: Spacious with a good sized garden.
Plenty of parking. Comfortable bed. Lovely area ideal for visiting York, Selby and Leeds. Cons: Unable to control the heating which meant it was cold when you needed it. Small fan heater was insufficient for the six of room.It needed a warning advising that the water was very hot. It could not be turned down in the shower and there was a danger of getting burnt. The washing machine rubber was dirty and covered in mildew. We tried to clean it but ended up taking laundry to my son's. On top of that the seating was the most uncomfortable we have ever known. My wife has a back problem and was in agony for most of our stay. The WiFi was weak and disappeared all together when other properties were occupied. Reading the comments book it appears that many if these complaints had been raised previously without any action being taken. A shame as it could have been an amazing stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Swallows Nest.
The property is beautiful, extremely clean and very well maintained. The attention to detail is first class, The surroundings are stunning, the countryside and the woods stretch for miles which was great for our dog, who was happy that he could explore the area off lead. Ollie, our dog loved his trip away and settled so well, the first time weâve managed to complete a stay as due to him being a very nervous dog, he doesnât settle staying away from home too well if the area is busy or noisy, we have always needed to come home early for him. We loved the area, so lovely and quiet and listening to the owls at night. We were so sad to leave but we will definitely be back for a longer stay. Thankyou for a perfect time.

Great little property; lovely garden and private parking, all secure!
Accommodation was well equipped and heating and hot water in abundance! Clean and tidy... milk left in fridge (very handy) with tea and coffee etc. Only a few little issues, hence the 4*....sofa was like sitting on plank of wood, uncomfortable... although chair was comfy.... shower did not drain too well, needed mop and bucket to mop floor after every shower and slight smell from drains and gurgling from sink, thought it was external drain but that looked OK... fridge can be a little noisy being open plan! All in all great little place and well situated for air museum and Selby. Great place for fur baby, having secure and well kept garden. Could quite easily stay again!! Oh... and there is a hairdryer!!

I found the cottage very well equipped & warm.
The bed was comfortable & sheets/ towels etc were clean & in good condition. The enclosed garden was a real bonus, ideal for pets. I was very pleased & grateful that the owners had gone to the trouble of putting Xmas decorations up & also leaving a bottle of wine & mince pies for me- very thoughtful & much appreciated! My only niggle is regarding the small sofa ( which appeared to be fairly new.) I found it extremely uncomfortable & after the first night I gave up & laid on the floor to watch TV. As my stay was over the Xmas period & all I wanted was to relax & sprawl out, that was very disappointing. In every other respect it was ideal & if not for the sofa I would definitely book again.
