  This was our second visit to Glen Effock. The first time we stayed, the house was a little tired and in need of a bit of tlc. But on returning, we were pleased to find that our feedback had been taken on board, old furniture has been replaced with new sofas and the kitchen has been updated.A larger fridge freezer or additional fridge in the utility room would be really useful though, (there’s a wine cooler in the dining room but it doesn’t work). If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind this is the perfect location, you won’t be disappointed.We had a delivery of food and drink and spent the whole week just pottering around the house and gardens.The views all around the house are amazing, we sat outside on the new garden furniture and listened to the birds and wildlife.The garden is fenced, but there are sheep on the other side of it. We kept our youngest dog on a long line on the first day until he became used to them and we didn’t have any issues.If you want to walk, there are loads of walks right on the doorstep, one of our family members climbed the hill/mountain we could see across the field, (twice).Sometimes when you are away, you don’t sleep as well as at home. Not here, the beds and pillows at Glen Effock are so comfortable, we all slept really well and came home feeling refreshed.We’ll definitely be returning.

  We loved our week in Glen Esk, it had almost everything we like about a week away. The sitting room didn't have enough seating for the 8 people the farmhouse sleeps and one settee and chair provided was very uncomfortable and not fit for purpose. Luckily for the main it was just us two, so we had the comfy couch. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms cosy. The kitchen needs improvement and could have done with a small telly, although it did have everything we needed. The front porch light did not work and there was insufficient outside lighting for taking our dog out at night. Be careful with the door on the log burner, the pin in the top hinge is not long enough and came out one night when we were stoking the fire. The walks in Glen Esk have amazing scenery and we saw Eagles and loads of Red Squirrels. Shops/restaurants are a good drive away in Edzell, not very convenient if you run out of milk. We know the area so we were prepared and took lots of supplies, there is a freezer with ample space. The farmhouse is a beautiful building with many original features and the garden is well kept, however there was no garden furniture/benches for sitting out. We'll be booking again in the not too distant future.

  We had a wonderful stay at Gleneffock. The wildlife, birds, sheep and incredible scenery made for a wonderful getaway - if you want to escape somewhere isolated, wild and beautiful, this is the place to be.The house is spacious and very well equipped - the one thing we felt was missing was a charging point for shavers/electric toothbrush - but this is a minor thing. The kitchen has everything you’d need - during our stay we baked bread, cakes and made many delicious meals and had everything we needed.The local village of Edzell is a 25 minute drive away so be mindful that you will need to drive some distance for any amenities - however, the village was so lovely we visited several times. There are so many walking routes that you could literally stay for a week and not need to drive further than five or ten minutes (Tarfside or Invermark) to park up and walk for miles across beautiful landscapes.The Glenesk Folk Museum was great, and the gentleman there recommended a drive to St Cyrus for a wonderful beach day - this was a real hit with the children. A circular drive via Ballater and Braemar ensured we saw some spectacular mountain scenery too.Highly recommended - we would love to return.

  Exactly the splendid isolation we all required to just be! Cooking together, laughing together, walking together… with some studying together! Just perfect. Gleneffock farmhouse is a truly magical place, the views, the air, the interior. To ensure a resting experience we stocked up on provisions in advance of our trip with meal planning in place to make sure we were covered. That said, we also made one trip to Edzell to purchase emergency crisps 😳. #TeensEatLotsOfChipsLocal walks were adventurous and our two dogs were super excited with the space around them. Thanks for having the basics available for the dogs too! We won’t need to pack those next time! The artists among us were not without camera or sketchbooks and were absolutely inspired by Gleneffock and Glenesk. Shifting colours in the landscape and sky providing much to capture, discuss and sketch. Far from the light pollution of the city our evening’s of star gazing also filled us all with joy. Currently planning our next visit to this magical glen! #Brigadoon Thank you for a wonderful trip!

  This was a return trip to Gleneffock following a fantastic visit between Christmas & New Year. It did not disappoint. It is simply the most tranquil place. The scenery is just magical and the weather brought outstanding lighting drama to the Glen. Cameras as the ready! With so much sunshine for the first week of February we took full advantage of long walks with two big dogs and then home (that’s what it feels like) to a roaring fire and delicious supper.Once again we made sure we were fully prepped with groceries to ensure our only focus was walking, resting and relaxing together. Family have already requested further visits as essential! We cannot wait to return. Special thanks to the team who prep the house in advance. Superb! And thanks again for leaving all necessary basics for the dogs. One less bag for the car! The dogs love this place as much as we do. As ever communication from both Gleneffock and Cottages.com make the trip a holiday from start to finish.
