What our customers say about their holidays

Great location .
Nice large cottage ,enclosed garden . However I contacted 3times to ensure cot supplied and set up On Arrival eventually found cot in a box -a travel cot which was broken .The top bar kept collapsing so if my baby granddaughter stood up and held bars it would collapse -very dangerous I did call Sykes but my daughter who luckily hadnât left home yet managed to source a travel cot to bring We wouldâve had to wait for Sykes to sort it and already late so had to ensure we had a safe cot for that night . I wasnât happy about this as I had messaged Sykes twice beforehand and called just before we left to check again and was informed via messages that everything listed was there correctly-Not ! The lounge had an odour of old upholstery which was offputting so I bought air fresheners and mattresses too soft (all my family mentioned the mattresses were too soft ) I appreciate with allowing dogs and weekly turnover itâs hard to please all customers and people may bring dogs but the lounge sofas should be cleaned more often and cushions etc I presume all throws are washed after each booking?? If your looking for a large cottage with character very central to tourist locations and great walks Then The Old School house if great But double check for specific items and call Sykes immediately if not supplied Luckily my daughter hasnât left to travel so she could bring cot but otherwise Iâm not sure how long it wouldâve taken to sort out as 6.30 pm when they arrived and we needed a secure cot for that night

Lovely House nice and spacious loved the decor top notch very comfortable stay the garden was beautiful ideal for our little dog to run around safely.
The only thing we would of liked more wardrobe space for sure there was not enough hangers in the rooms (hence went and got our own) we thought there was enough space for a small wardrobe in all the rooms to be fair.....liked your idea of hanging stuff on the rustic black pipe look but would say a wardrobe would benefit more..... perfect location for our stay. The property was very clean on arrival....but when we left and did our clean we could see that the single chair in the lounge had not been pulled out possibly by last people or not been hoovered behind was quite dusty maybe your cleaners should pull the furniture out when they go in on a change over day??? The large lounge curtains in back was coming unclipped so a couple of times I did re-up them back quite fidely to do the one on end of curtain seemed like it was broken clip wise was hanging down when we arrived but didn't look very nice....maybe an upgrade curtain wise to match smaller lounge and curtain pole would benefit this room now.....these are our personal feedback the house is absolutely lovely just a couple of minor things let it down. But would definitely stay again every thing was to our taste. The weather was fine on arrival but gradually got worse rain wise.... typical but we still enjoyed our stay we thought the house was lovely and up there with top marks on other properties we have stayed in for sure ....

We absolutely loved our stay!
On arrival we were greeted with a lovely warm, clean house with everything we needed to start our holiday such as; tea, coffee, butter and milk plus some added luxuries too which were very appreciated! We read through the welcome pack which was helpful, there is lots of space in the back which we felt could have included how the house should be left e.g where the cleaners wanted the towels, what temp the heating should be on, where the key should be left, hopefully we did everything right. Also a few local leaflets for days out would have been super helpful but not too much of problem given the WiFi. There were a couple of very minor issues in the bathroom; the window was either stuck closed or quite stiff, we didn't force it for fear of not closing it again. There was also some mould on the bottom of the shower curtain and around the bath. The kitchen was really well equipped and appliances were easy to use. The extendable dining table was great when we did lots of food for all of us. The house was in a great location, the kids loved watching the stream train go by on occasion. We walked to a local Italian restaurant and then onto a cocktail bar (Tabu) which were both amazing, as was Queens Fish and Chips. Overall a very good stay and we'd happily book again!! Huge thank you to the owners for great hospitality.

Lots of plus points.
The location is great and very scenic. Useful info packs, reading books and other quirky touches. Beds are good, the showers produce lots of hot water. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining space big enough for 10. The lounge is also big enough for 10 comfortably, however.. The previously reported problem in the comments of people getting stuck in the old side bathroom was still present. The shower is also flooding out which is asking for trouble. We had people in the garden when my sister was stuck luckily. After that no one closed the door⦠(The phone signal sucks so we didnât bother to call this in) The Wi-fi works well, but the Nest thermostat is disconnected at set times (deliberately) and itâs an old house and is on cool side. The sofas have seen better days but are comfortable enough. Thereâs a nice trip hazard rug you have to roll up as well. The new side bathroom sucks if you are over 5.11â you can only stand in the shower or doorway and have to bend double to get to the shower or loo. Generally, we felt the pictures on the site were better than the reality of what is a near £1m property. In hotel speak, the property is tired, and we left feeling like weâd been overcharged.

We had a wonderful time staying at Well Cottage.
Its just a 5 minute walk into the village with all its amenities and attractions and only 2 minutes walk to the supermarket. The cottage itself is very spacious and well equipped. There is a single bedroom which you walk through to get to one of the double rooms, with an ensuite, which proved ideal for our baby with parents next door. Then there are 2 further double rooms, one with a lovely ensuite the other with use of a separate bathroom. All the double rooms were set up with super king size beds ( I.e. none as a twin as in the photos) this suited us fine but I think you'd need to make it clear if you needed twin rooms. The beds were comfy and the showers and baths powerful. With 2 lounges it meant the generations could do their own thing. The garden is large and fully enclosed, our dog loved playing catch before heading out on a walk. Also included in the cottage were thoughtful touches. A selection of goodies in the fridge, plus tea and coffee. Hand towels in all the bathrooms and tea towels. There's a tap and short hose pipe outside for washing the dog and muddy boots. Would highly recommend. Probably the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in!
