What our customers say about their holidays

Merlin Cottage is beautiful and so well located for easy access to many landmarks in Cornwall. There are amazing walks immediately as you step out of the front door and having the river so close by is a real bonus. The cottage is set in a tiny hamlett with friendly neighbour's. Be prepared to drive down some very narrow lanes with no passing places to get there! The nearby town of Lostwithiel is quaint but well serviced with a coop, restaurants and takeaways. We can highly recommend the Moonlight Tandoori. Lostwithiel can be walked to in around 30 minutes through the countryside and along the picturesque river. Lovely beaches are about 15 min by car. We loved the nearby town of Fowey and the Eden project is on the doorstop. Top tip, Eden offer a very generous discount if, like us, you're on universal credit. The cottage it self is full of charm, well equipped and clean. The owners left us tea, biscuits, fresh milk and toiletries which was a nice touch. Ceilings are low, you can't stand straight if you're over 6ft like my son. This is to be expected of a 500 year old cottage and part of its charm. We enjoyed cosying up in the evenings around the fire. Remember to bring matches to get the fire started because these weren't provided. Merlin has some fantastic outside space to sit and eat or have a coffee. We made full use of this whilst we were there. Aside from benches and and an outside table, deck chairs and loungers were also provided. Overall, Merlin Cottage is the perfect base for a Cornish holiday. Just watch your head on the beams!

Beautiful cottage which was very spacious, cosy and fully equipped. Garden was a decent size and fully enclosed (perfect for our 2 dogs) with a nice little patio area, seating and a BBQ for relaxing after a day at one of the many beaches nearby. Cottage itself was tucked away in a little cul-de-sac which made it even more private, with a driveway for our car to be parked. The park itself where it is situated on is also very clean, friendly, with a restaurant and bar and various entertainment of the evening. Location is ideal as it was a short drive into all our favourite spots in Cornwall, such as Padstow, Port Isaac, Newquay and Perranporth. 7 nearby bays are also in close proximity. Harlyn Bay being our favourite, and only 8 minutes away in the car. Beautiful hidden gem with a lovely beach bar. This cottage had all we needed and more. They even had a variety of games and books etc for families to use. We would certainly book this cottage again and would recommend to family and friends without a doubt. Thanks for a wonderful week

We really enjoyed our stay in this homely welcoming house. It's a home that's been lived in, don't expect pristine carpets and walls, but we liked that. The spaces are great. Comfy living room and dining area, small kitchen and cute outdoor space downstairs. Beautiful bathroom, spacious hallway landing area and two small bedrooms on first floor, with doors opening up to lovely garden and steps up to cute cabin. Master bedroom in attic space really big with comfy bed and views out to the ocean. We loved all the decorative touches reminding you that you're by the seaside. Heating works really well and shower was hot and water flow strong. Location is great. Not quite as charming as staying in Downalong right on the harbour like we have before BUT, the street is nice and quiet and it really is only a five minute stroll to all the harbour action. Oh, and the parking space up the hill is perfect. Seemed safe and secure and a chance to work off the pasties and beer when you walk up those steps!

We found the location of the cottage perfect for walking into St Ives. The car parking space was useful too. The property looked lovely - very stylish - and had everything that we needed for the week. However all the beds had extremely uncomfortable mattresses and we struggled to get at all comfortable in bed every night after a busy day of touring and walking. We have never experienced such oddly-sprung, very hard-surfaced mattresses before in any rented accommodation, and being tired from lack of sleep every night did affect our holiday. That one important aspect let the accommodation down as everything else was good. Unfortunately it would prevent us from booking the cottage again.

This is a truly lovely place.
Immaculately clean, everything you could possibly need, (except an iron), so take one with you. The board is there. Parking for 1 car off the road. Very quiet and peaceful. The neighbours I spoke to were friendly and approachable. Central heating accessable to adjust. All facilities were clean and well maintained. The entertainment was good with shop onsite too. The best place in all my years of visiting many parts of Cornwall that I have stayed in. I would definitely return here, definitely use Sykes cottages from now on, wherever I go in Cornwall or anywhere else that they operate. Excellent throughout
