What our customers say about their holidays

This is the best Sykes managed accommodation that we have stayed in.
We are in our late 70s and although we are not disabled this accommodation is extremely disabled friendly with TWO wet rooms and wheelchair access into the property. The accommodation is extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable with everything you may need on holiday. It is also very dog friendly with a very secure large garden and dog bowls provided. We always take throws with us to cover furniture and protect it from our dog but we were pleasantly surprised to find that specific dog throws had been provided. The accommodation has a pleasant outlook across fields with sheep at the time we were there and also Jack the horse. We found that very relaxing to watch them all grazing. Thank you Vendela for ensuring that all your guests are happy and the detailed attention to the facilities that you provide. (Sykes! This accommodation should be rated as 5, same as the adjacent accommodation Hebe.)

The cottage is very comfortable and it was a bonus to have the main bedroom and en-suite downstairs. Two further upstairs bedrooms were also en-suites, which was very useful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen had everything that we needed for our stay. The garden was enclosed, so our dogs had a great time, although I'm not sure that they couldn't have cleared the fence if they had seen a deer on the other side! There is a large field next to the property where we were told they could also be exercised. We found the location to be peaceful, yet within a short distance of many places that we wanted to visit, so would definitely return. The staff at Athelhampton could not have been more pleasant, making sure that we had everything we needed, whilst respecting our privacy completely. A fabulous find and we will definitely be back.

We loved the stunning countryside and comfortable cottage.
We were not so happy with the fact that it says broadband will have been installed, however there was no wi-fi at all and phone calls were also impossible. Our friends who came to visit for lunch tried to call us as they got lost, but could not get through to us. It needs to be better described that Wi-Fi is not available. I would not normally worry about this but currently restaurants, pubs and attractions all ask you to book online, which we could not do. Also, we feel that there should be better signage to people driving into the cottage car park that they need to respect our privacy, some people drive in quite fast and the orchard garden should say private. That all said we liked the pretty cottage and the many walks in this tranquil part of Dorset.

First impression opening the, mouldy smell.
Kitchen, crockery and cutlery dirty, we had to wash everything we wanted to use. Cottage layout and location as your description, just great. Mould on nearly every wall at some location, both up and downstairs. Shower outlet completely blocked and tray flooded on first use. I managed to clear this. Wash basin outlet blocked, managed to partial clear this so we could use it. Last few sheets of toilet paper, good job we brought 2 rolls with us. Looking through guest book we noticed that damp musty smell and hard to use front door lock had been noted by other visitors. fresh linen would have been nice but it was nearly time to leave when we told it was available. Otherwise we enjoyed the location and area, pity about the rest. Regards Ian

The cottage is lovely in a great setting.
Generally everything you need is provided although there were a few issues. There's no spare cupboard to store food and no freezer, or freezer compartment in the fridge. We spent a cold first night as the quilt is very thin and the bedding uncomfortable due to the mattress cover bunching up under the sheet. This was happening because the mattress cover being practically in shreds as it was so worn out. I asked for, and received a blanket but it only made a little difference. Also the pillows were rather flat and I feel the towels should be changed mid week as one bath and one hand towel are not enough. The staff were very nice and replaced the tin opener as soon as I told them it was broken. Linda and Ian.
