What our customers say about their holidays

This property is an older bungalow which is dated.
It has suffered from a prolonged lack of care and maintenance and is not as shown in your website. In particular the outside and garden have not been maintained and are very overgrown. The bathroom facilities need updating. The en-suite is like a broom cupboard and could not be used by a large person. Both toilet seats are loose and the separate toilet seat is cracked and stained. The conservative roof leaks and is covered in moss. Both ladies were unable to open the door to the washing machine/tumble drier. The sunshade was unusable as the wind blew it around due to incorrect fixing to the base. The overhead light in the back bedroom did not work and is bound up with insulating tape which is unsafe. I have raised all the above points with the owner(Richard) who said he has been away and is not well but this means the poor occupier suffers his inefficiency. He did say he was sorry but this is no recompense to me! This property did not meet my standards and I suggest you inspect the property immediately as I am sure it would not meet yours. Unfortunately the owner is not able to maintain his property as he would wish at the moment. This is the first time I have used Sykes Cottages and unfortunately it may be the last. I have taken photographs but it seems I am unable to upload them to this webpage.

Lucy was fantastic, she was friendly and obliging over text and helping me get in.
The Hut itself is a beautiful thing. I was able to cook easily and one can make the space quite toasty of a chilly evening if you so wish. Its on a very pretty farm; I enjoyed seeing Velvet the pig in the morning from the bathroom window and loved the horse who would often approach the enclosure out of carefree curiosity. The Hut door faces the sunrise. As I was there to meditate and relax, I was delighted to discover the open to public spiritual gardens and yurt of "The Quiet View" only two minutes up the road (give it a google). I really enjoyed the country lane and woodland walks the surrounding area had to offer. I was surprised how quiet and left to my own devices I could get as its only 7 miles from a city. I popped into Canterbury for the Cathedral (and Tesco) and it was only 20 mins on the bus with a £2 card tap. That said, a breezy walk into next village Barham has quite a nice shop and Bishopsbourne the other way had a nice pub and cafe. About 150m up the road from the Hut was a blue plaque for the Sculptor Henry Moore who lived there in the 30s (for any fellow nosy art nerds out there!). A really gorgeous stay, I shall return.

We booked a very last minute trip to Kent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Despite only booking 24 hours before, we arrived and the house was spotless. Richard also found time to makeup a cot for our daughter and leave milk (and wine) in the fridge. The location was perfect for us as we wanted something rural and quiet but the house is within a short drive to numerous beautiful beaches and large supermarkets. At the back off the property Richard has a small holdings with pigs and goats which our children enjoyed feeding everyday. The home is spacious and comfortable, the kitchen is equipped with everything we needed as the pubs/restaurants hadnât opened yet. The garden is vast with plenty of room for children to run around or just sit and enjoy a drink. Beds were large and comfortable. Richard could not have been more helpful or accommodating and we hope to return again in the future. Highly recommended!

Richard was very helpful, greeted us on arrival.
The cottage was comfortable and the secure garden was great for our dogs, although as it was quite large, our blind dog took a little time to adjust. Obviously, this is not a negative comment, as it was a lovely garden. One comment on your website, there was a dishwasher at the property, but it was not listed, so I took no dishwasher tablets, and there were none there already. We bought some, but found the dishwasher a little temperamental, a couple of times it didnât run. The walk up to the back of the property to view the goats was a bonus. Lastly, would suggest that Richard invest in a guest book. Theyâre always useful as they often give useful tips on places to go locally. Sorry for submitting this review a little late, Covid 19 rather got in the way once we got back!

Bungalow was spacious and comfortable.
It was equipped witth all the things you would need, to cater for six people, including all the pots, pans and serving dishes that would be required to prepare a full roast dinner. The conservatory was spacious and cosy on a sunny afternoon. The picture of the garden on the website seems to show an open garden and is an old photo. The garden is fully enclosed and dog proof and our dog was free to run around without the worry of her escaping. The roads in the immediate area are somewhat narrow in places but there are plenty of passing spaces. Richard the owner met us on arrival and was very friendly and helpful, making sure we knew about all the facilities available. We enjoyed our stay at Glynde, and wiil be rebooking next year.
