What our customers say about their holidays

We have recently returned from a wonderful week at Orcaber Barn.
We have stayed at lots of different places in the dales and the moors and it has become a bit of a tradition to go in January but this place is probably the best we have stayed in. The accommodation is part of the original farm buildings and the farm is still working so we saw lots of sheep, horses and chickens from the barn, something our 3 year old loved! The downstairs is huge! There is an open plan kitchen and diner with a downstairs loo. Access to the large secure garden and a large living room with log burner and reclining furniture that is very comfortable. The whole downstairs has underfloor heating too, which makes it very cosy. Oh and a massive tv! Upstairs is carpeted which was nice. To the right of the landing is a bedroom with en suite shower and toilet etc. The bed is at least a super king and is very comfy. To the left of the landing is a door which leads to a corridor. Off that corridor is a family bathroom with bath and over shower. Opposite this is a single room with a comfy bed and at the end of the corridor is another large room with a huge, comfy bed, again it was at least a super king. We loved this as we came with another couple so they could have their own room and bathroom. Our little girl loved having her own little room, our baby could sleep in our room In the cot, we had our own bathroom and we could close our âwingâ off so we didnt disturb too much. The layout upstairs is great! The quality of the finish in the rooms, the carpets, the soft furnishings and the furniture is lovely. Both main rooms have huge smart tvs and plenty of storage space for clothes etc. The fire was very well stocked with logs and kindling when we arrived but we did buy some more from the owners, although we didnt use it all. The internet was quick and reliable and the heating wasnt set to timers, as we have found in other places we have stayed. We had full control so it never felt cold. Although there are a couple of other cottages nearby, it still felt remote and we didnt see or hear from anybody else. The kitchen had everything, it really was a home from home. Dishwasher, lots of pots, pans, utensils and even dog towels in the downstairs loo for muddy walks in the dog field! The owners have thought of absolutely everything and nothing was too much trouble when we asked. The local area is great, there is plenty to see and do nearby. We visited Malham a couple of times, Ingleton waterfalls trail, Feizor and the cheese and wine shop just up the road is amazing, the cafe was fantastic for lunch! There is lots of good walking and mountain biking too. Thanks for a great holiday, we will be back! Danny, Laura, Gracie, George & Bo

Very nice and hospitable hosts.
The property is superb, very well furnished, comfortable, spacious and relaxing and we would definitely like to return again. The pint of milk in the fridge was a really nice touch and the dog exercise area was great for some early morning exercise before heading out for the day. The water pressure was on the weak side which meant the shower in particular was not very powerful, but this did not spoil our stay. Being on a working farm it was great to be woken by the sounds of horses braying and chickens clucking and it just enhanced the laid back feel we experienced. It is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and only a short distance from all the necessary amenities in Settle. There is also a great pub in Austwick only a mile away with excellent food and drink. The one thing that did disappoint slightly, was to be told on arrival that our dog was to be restricted to the downstairs area of the property. Whilst we were happy to accept this, I think that this should be made clear on the website as it is a material consideration when booking.

We had a great stay at Orcaber Farm.
The barn is huge, very well-equipped and really comfortable - it felt like a 4-5 star standard of hotel but within the comforts of a self-catering cottage. The barn was spotlessly clean on our arrival and the owners were friendly and helpful and non-intrusive throughout our stay. We especially liked the Christmas tree in the living room, which made our December stay feel even more festive! The setting of the barn being on a working farm did mean that at times it was quite noisy, particularly during some weekday mornings. It was also quite distracting for our dog, especially with the small chickens that were able to get through the rear garden fence at times! While the garden is secure for dogs overall, this perhaps could be addressed for future stays. Other than that we cannot fault the place and hope to visit again soon. The nearby area around Settle etc is really great to explore too, so we'd love to come back during the spring or summer to be able to see more of it in better weather.

We have stayed in hundreds of SC accommodation all over Europe and this is at the top of the list.
Very warm welcome from our hosts Gaynor and Neil who live in the farm. The barn was spotlessly clean and all the appliances were top class. The ground floor is open plan and huge. You may think that this would make it feel cold but with the under floor heating it was toasty without using the log burner. Large double bed was very comfortable. Private enclosed garden is a must for us with our dogs. There is also a large dog exercise field which is adjacent to the horse harness racing track and our dogs loved trying to out sprint the horses when they were being trained. Before anybody says that this was irresponsible, it was carried out with the full permission of Neil who was driving the horses at the time. The area is spectacular with lots of top class eating places. I couldn't recommend Orcaber Barn more highly. The owners also have a caravan and camping park across the road but unless you went looking for it you wouldn't know that it was there .

A lovely converted barn that is extremely comfortable and with underfloor heating a very nice warm barn to return to after a days walking on any of the nearby trails and walks, a tribute to the owners.
The barn is handy for Settle and only a moderate drive to Skipton. The rooms are large and very well furnished with quality furniture and fittings, makes a refreshing change from a lot of places which appear to furnish their holiday homes with cast offs from their own properties. The bedrooms are very comfortable again with quality furnishings and heated by a separate thermostat which was very useful as downstairs was very warm and the bedrooms could be maintained at a cooler temperature. There was a contained grassed area leading from the rear door which was a secure area for the dog to wander round, keeping an eye on the ducks and hens that wandered the farm. There is also a dedicated dog walk which was very useful for the morning walk and reasonably secure to let the dog off the lead. Lastly the Barn is on a working farm so although in a lovely quite spot there is the usual noises you would expect from a working farm
