What our customers say about their holidays
Josephine - Verified booking
Lovely setting and beautiful house that unfortunately needs a good spring clean.
Apart from the kitchen the rest of the house is full of dust and cobwebs and dead insects.the double bedroom is particularly dirty with thick dust on the headboard and dust and hairs on carpet.the furniture is very out dated and shabby.the sofa cushions are very dirty and worn and under them I found old sweets and bits of food!under the sofas the floor is very dusty.I had to clean both bath and shower before use as although they had been superficially cleaned they both had hairs in them.bathroom cabinet dirty down the sides and inside cupboard and toilet bowl covered in hairs at floor level. All doors downstairs need wiping down. The electric was off for several hours one day due to maintenance work of which we were not given notice of until it was actually off, only later to learn from a neighbour that they had been noticed 4 weeks earlier of power cut!in a message the owner claimed she had not picked up her messages from power company which may have been true but 4 weeks is plenty of time to have done so!if we had known it would not have been a problem we could have got up earlier and had breakfast before electric went off.I know I could have raised The cleanliness issues with the owner at the time but didnât want cleaners coming in for the day whilst we were there and canât think of how else this matter could have been resolved.

Marsh Villa is exceptional in every way!
We could easily live here permanently! The attention to detail in every aspect was spot on & the place was immaculately clean when we arrived. So well equipped that we didn't need to bring a lot of the things we brought with us. Welcome pack & products etc included: eggs, bread, small milk, range of tea/coffee/hot chocolate sachets, biscuits, dishwasher tablets for the week, washing up liquid, sponge, cleaning products, mop, Hoover, iron & board, fire making materials, tea towels, oven gloves, handwash at all sinks, loo roll, kitchen roll, mini toiletries, salt & pepper, scrabble, playing cards, dog crate, bedding & towels. The only thing that isn't available is a hair dryer - so you need to bring your own. The only very minor negative is that the bedroom curtains are not blackout curtains. Amazing walks from the doorstep & ideally located to walk or drive into Silloth- which we found to be well looked after & the people were really friendly. Silloth West beach is better for dog walking than Skinburness beach, however our dogs enjoyed both. We also enjoyed the beach at Allonby, a visit to Maryport (25 mins) & also to Derwent Water (about 50 min drive). We will definitely be recommending Marsh Villa to our friends & family. We would definitely return.

We really enjoyed our stay at the old stables.
Itâs in a super spot only 10 minutes from Kirkby Lonsdale. Beautiful countryside views from windows upstairs. Itâs a big cottage so plenty of room for the four of us. The new kitchen was a bonus - very smart! The cottage could do with an update in places particularly the carpets in the bedrooms. The twin bedroom off the utility has a musty damp smell. Bed sheets in this room were very old/worn too and could do with an update. It also needs a thorough spring clean - lots of cobwebs in the main lounge and bathrooms dusty in places. Kitchen equipment issues - knives not sharp and the bottle opener was bent. Also no information book was left like in other cottages Iâve been tooâ¦.would have been useful to have recommendations for pubs and restaurants and local walks. When I mentioned the musty smell to the owner she claimed it was to do with our dirty walking boots which was a ridiculous statement as the smell was there when we arrived. Unfortunately the owners took my issues with cleanliness in a personal way. They did come over on the first day and clean the twin bedroom off the utility again & main bathroom (after me speaking to a Sykes agent). Also towels should have been provided like in other cottages Iâve stayed in.

My daughter, granddaughter and my Border Collie and myself had a wonderful time, the cottage was in a lovely location and the owners Malcolm and Angela had provided everything anyone could possibly ask for.
The cottage is a beautiful building, dog friendly, with a nice garden, comfortably bedrooms, lovely spacious kitchen, lovely open plan lounge and dining area, and ample parking. It is a wonderful area to explore the Dales and if you wanted to go a little further north, the Lake District is within easy reach. We do an annual walk with friends up Pen Y Ghent ,and the cottage was very near there, wherever you drive or walk you are in beautiful scenery. The cottage was very peaceful and Kirkby Lonsdale with the River Lune flowing through it has some excellent shops ,cafes, a wonderful bakery, ice cream parlour, and if you like home made pies and quality meat, the Dales butchers is probably one of the finest butchers shops I have ever visited. If you are a lover of traditional cheese, tootle down the road towards Settle and you will experience some of the most amazing cheeses at the Courtyard Dairy. You probably won't buy cheese from the supermarket again! All in all we had a really lovely stay and we highly recommend the cottage and Malcolm and Angie the owners. Hopefully we will have another break back there soon.

The property was very difficult to find, not appearing on Google maps and with no phone signal in the area, so we only had Sykes' directions to go on which could do with improving.
There are three bedrooms downstairs, however on our trip one smelled very badly of the cesspit and another had the boiler in (enclosed in a cupboard) so only one bedroom and one bathroom were really useable. One of the taps in the bath kept falling off and both appeared to have been put on the wrong way around. Cleaning in the bathroom also could have been better. On the positive side, the upstairs is a wonderful space, beautifully converted, in good taste, and with plenty of nice touches like the wood above the windows, lighting and multiple speakers for the hifi system. The underfloor heating was amazing and the place never felt cold (in October). There was zero traffic noise with only birds and a river for sounds. The rainshower and woodburners were nice extras, as was the dishwasher. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery, although a decent bottle opener would have been appreciated and perhaps a pizza tray or similar. The owners seemed very nice, as were the other local people we met.
