What our customers say about their holidays
Heidi - Verified booking
Trefollwyn Mawr is set in the most beautiful surroundings, with far reaching mountain and coastal views.
The farmhouse is peaceful and located on a working farm. We were often greeted by the cows and sheep which provided much entertainment to our party! A lovely addition to the holiday! It would be unfair to be critical about such a beautiful place and we did have a lovely week away as a family but a few points are worthy of note to anyone visiting Trefollwyn. The description regarding the access to the property via an âuneven and bumpy road through farmlandâ is an understatement. When driving through the farm yard, the ground underneath was rocky, muddy and severely uneven. We did suffer some rain which made driving to and from the cottage quite treacherous. This, we felt, should be described more accurately as any person who books this property who had a lower or sporty car would have much difficulty in gaining access without potentially causing damage to their car. The water pressure was very poor and we had to adjust to announcing when one of us was having a shower so to not flush the toilets or turn the taps on. Again, we totally accepted that itâs a working farm and animals need their water but we adapted and it became part of the character of the farm house! The description stated that the beach was âwithin easy reach on footâ. Firstly, it was a stunning beach with barely anyone on it but it was not an easy walk to the beach. The grandparents in our group would not have made it down the cliff to the beach and we struggled carrying our toddler down. We did this on one occasion and decided to not brave it again. You can drive round to the beach so that was an option. The WiFi is slow in the property but then itâs a beautiful farmhouse in the middle of nowhere! The above points are not criticism to the property but are worthy of note. Nerys and her family were nothing but helpful and the positives definitely out weigh any negatives. It was a memorable holiday and we would visit again. Thank you!

Would we come back?
Yes Is it easy to get to? Google Maps will take you to the doorstep but itâs approx 1.5miles on a farm track road. A bigger car/4x4 is recommended. Whatâs good? Amazing location right by the sea. Very close to Abersoch which Iâd describe as âthe Welsh Sandbanksâ. Amazing beaches, great food, Cafés, delis and pubs (Crust Pizza was a favourite). Clean and spacious house and rooms. Bottle of Prosecco and some chocolate/caramel rice crispy cakes (very good) and flowers left by the owners for us. What could be better? Two easy fixes, and one thatâs a bit trickier! Welcome book - there should be a welcome book that tells you all the things you should know about the area, best places to go, contact numbers etc. Wi-Fi - yes, technically thereâs Wi-Fi but on speed tests it was between 0.7 and 0.9 mbp/s so donât expect to be able to watch films on a laptop/firestick etc. Phone signal wasnât great (weâre on 3) but according to signal checker EE and Vodafone are good. Water pressure - this is the hard one. The showers were ok, if not temperamental. If you get in first and no one else is running the water anywhere else in the house you can have a good shower. Anything after that and itâs a bit of a lottery. Overall itâs a great place to stay with some incredible places to go locally. Itâs a great holiday house. Iâve said it with other reviews: you donât come on holiday for the Wi-Fi so if you can get past the showers this place is definitely worth visiting.

We had an amazing time at Owl Cottage.
The hot tub was awesome; definitely the highlight! We also loved that we could let our dog wander without worrying as the plot is completely enclosed. The location is fantastic on a beautiful farm, tucked right at the bottom with only the sound of birds chirping and sheep baa-ing! Visiting the Alpacas was a treat too. The walk to Hells Mouth is about 35 mins and is a spectacular wild beach. We loved that all the local beaches are dog friendly, even in the summer, which is not the case in places like Pembrokeshire. We were disappointed that the field at the bottom of the cottage was inaccessible as it was totally overgrown (it looked mowed in the pics); we wouldâve liked to let the dog play there. I found the bed very comfortable but my husband struggled. The sofa bed wasnât much better for him. All the amenities youâd expect, only missing a peeler for the carrots! The oven took some getting used to but there was an instruction manual to help. I assumed the lack of salt, pepper, sugar, tea and coffee is a Covid precaution so be sure to take your own. The Wi-fi only worked for one day while we were there, so we couldnât use Netflix etc and thereâs no phone signal. But tbh I love being cut off from the world on holidays like this and enjoyed watching normal TV and reading. Outdoor chairs were very comfy. There are washing machines in the building near the glamping should you need them. We would definitely return if it wasnât for my hubby hating the bed!

I am almost loathed to say how much we love this cottage in case it gets booked up !
! This was our 4th visit to 'Bwthyn Gwyn Bach' and we have already booked at least one more stay this year with another possible ... When we arrive, it just now feels like 'coming home' and there is almost an instant feeling of relaxation just from walking through the front door. The garden is fantastic (and more work done on the back wall with a new Summer house) for dogs or just for sitting in the peace and quiet. The main bedroom is super comfortable with an en-suite and gorgeous shower ..there is also a new bed / mattress in there since our last visit too. Lounge is just relaxing too with comfy sofas and chair....the furniture is 'quirky'. It is warm too which is important for me with a beautiful log burner as well. Apart from being so lovely as a cottage - the location is just fantastic! Literally a 10 minute walk or less to the beach (and The Cliffs pub/ hotel ) and slightly less through a pathway between some houses to the coastal path where you can do the beautiful walk to Nefyn beach as well. The garage with the shop is literally about 100 metres away and is pretty reasonably stocked as well. To be honest (though there are some other AMAZING beaches to drive to as well), you could literally lock your car on arrival and not use it again till you left if you wanted. Anyway - as much as I don't want you to book when we want to be there (:0)) ...it is just brilliant in so many ways and they deserve every fab review they get! See you soon!

Owl Cottage is very clean and tidy, it has a very comfortable bed so we slept well every night.
It is very tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. The private hot tub was lovely, we spent a lot of time relaxing in it. As it is covered it can be used even if the weather isn't dry, which is good. Lovely little patio yard area with BBQ facilities. A great sun trap! It is worth mentioning that despite the cottage listing saying that there is WiFi, in Owl Cottage there is none. We also couldn't get a mobile phone signal inside the cottage either. A few yards up the driveway phone signal becomes available again! This can be a negative or a positive aspect of a holiday, depending on your point of view! But no WiFi when it says there is, is disappointing. Especially as Netflix could be used for free *if* WiFi worked in the cottage. We couldn't access the field adjacent to the cottage which was disappointing as we could have let our dogs run in there, but it was overgrown and inaccessible. It is also worth noting that although there is a good size fridge in the cottage, it doesn't have a freezer compartment. The hosts were friendly, I helped out with an alpaca trek one day which was a lovely experience. There was minimal contact with the hosts even though they live next door, which for us was perfect as we knew they were on hand if needed but not interfering. Guests might wonder why it is called Owl Cottage, despite no owl decor.....book a holiday there and you will find out for yourselves! Amazing!
