What our customers say about their holidays

I have deliberated long and hard about this review; it's been very hard because I don't like upsetting people.
They're was a lot going on though that I think people should know. 1. I'm sick and tired of properties claiming to be dog friendly when they are actually barely dog tolerant. To the extent where at this property we have to take the dog off the property if he needed defecate, that's not dog friendly. For that reason of made our stay more negative. 2. The garden is NOT enclosed. This is, sadly, a blatant lie. For the most part people look for enclosed gardens because they either had small children or dogs. This garden has multiple places where both could get out and with a busy a road right in the other side of the garden (another thing you aren't told about!). They're are places where the metal mesh has been pushed away, are the side of the garden near the driveway there is a huge hole going into the brambles onto the other side that a child could literally just walk through, no need to even crawl really. Lastly, the driveway itself has a foot-ish high slate barrier (it's not a wall) that has maybe a meter and a half drop into the brambles on the other side - neither a small child nor a dog has the wherewithal to understand that it's unsafe. And once they're through the brambles, it's a gentle slope to that busy a road. It's not safe. As such, every time we had the dog in the garden (to urinate only, of course, because he wasn't allowed to do anything else) it was on lead constantly - which was not very fun for him. 3. When we arrived, the first thing we wanted was a nice cup of tea after a long drive. Unfortunately, when we got there we found over half of the dishes, crockery, pots, pans and cutlery were very dirty. We had to wash so much of it before use. I appreciate this was down to the guests before us but cleanliness should have been checked. 4. The property has mould all over. Ceilings, room corners, almost every window. The shower unit has mould in the controls and shower head. The vent in the bathroom is covered. The master bedroom has so much covering the walls in the corners. It's not acceptable. 5. The shower unit needs to be upgraded. It has terrible pressure, it's dirty and it's just very dated. 6. Master bed could do with being bigger, you have the space to have a larger and more comfortable bed. We didn't use the other beds but tested the mattresses and they felt cheap. 7. When you leave they all ask bedding to be removed, happy to do this. But it meant we saw the mattress protectors and mattresses, some of which are pretty stained. As a guest, I feel it's not something we should be seeing. 8. Towels felt very worn and old. 9. There was a very musty smell throughout, but especially in the dining room. We ended up buying Febreze and staying every day to help disparate it. 10. The sofas are uncomfortable, very low down and need updating. Some pros, the dishwasher was very good (makes all the first dishes even more confusing). Heating worked incredibly well. Good fridge/freezer space. Oven and stove worked well. Decent WiFi. The one time we needed to contact the owner because the water went (due to Welsh water and not the owner/property) their daughter was very communicative and helpful. The property is in a great location with a lot to do around within easy driving distance.

I wanted a traditional stone cottage overlooking a great view of Snowdonia, and this place promised to tick all my boxes.
Out of the 3 Cyffdy cottages we chose Arenig because the kids wanted the bunk beds. It's a lovely cottage with original features, log burner, comfy beds, and supplied blankets, hot water bottles, games, books. Kids loved the trampoline on the driveway green, and donkeys came to the gate. On the downside, the cottage receives no natural light, and half of the lights are blue-temp LED. I would strongly suggest to the owner to change all the lights to warm temperature. The blue light in the bedrooms and kitchen feels like an office. :( After reading the other reviews I admit I was a little dismayed not to receive any gifts on my arrival. A couple of welcome items always warms the guest to be on your side, especially if you're leaving a letter apologising for broken things (that didn't affect us, e.g. no shelves inside fridge door). The shower drips water down the bath tub sides and all over the floor. I wondered if the owners had even tested it out. I texted the owner, they just apologised and advised to mop up with the bathmats. I would suggest a longer shower shield window, or changing the whole bath to a walk-in shower, before the bathroom gets mould rot from the constant water. Heating only comes on certain hours, so we arrived at a cold cottage. But there was a plentiful supply of wood for our whole stay, and a burner that kicks out plenty heat. When the central heating does crank up (we had to bleed one radiator) it gets so hot you have to open the windows to breathe. We managed the balance in the end. The TV was slow and hard to work, but we managed to watch programmes fine - something that I don't take for granted in rental stays! The kitchen has good provisions generally; crockery and a few other bits like teabags, but I felt it missed a cupboard of condiments like salt and oil, the things I didn't want to travel with. All in all, it was a beautiful cottage for a good price stay, close to Lynn Tegid (the lake in Bala), and Bala village with a Co-op, Spar, baker, butcher. But I think our next Snowdonia stay would be somewhere more like Betws-y-Coed where there is more action going on.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage over the new year.
The cottage is really comfortable and warm. It has a fully kitted out kitchen. We were able to cook a roast dinner with no problems. There is a stunning private garden which I imagine would be beautiful in the summer and incredible views over the Welsh hills. Even though it was cold and wet outside we were always nice and warm inside. The heating goes off at 10pm but there's a log burner and plenty of logs if you get cold. We were a family of 2 adults and 2 kids but on NYE my parents come over. The living is large enough for 6 people to sit comfortably. The addition of lots of board games provided by the host was brilliant. This kept us busy and having a laugh for hours. Bala is about a 5 minute drive away where there is lots of pubs and a couple of restaurants. There also an award winning butchers which we would certainly recommend. The pubs are ok but the food is terrible so I would advise either cooking in or ordering a take away. There is plenty of walks near by. Also Bala lake in the summer gets very busy with lots of water sport activities available. Thanks for our stay!

My two sons and I had a lovely week at Windycroft.
The house was very clean, homely and had everything we needed. The views were amazing, they look good on the photos but are even better in real life. We loved sitting on the seats outside and watching out over the harbour and town below. The house is just around the corner from the Barmouth bridge and one of our favourite days out was walking across it to Fairbourne spending the day there and then getting the train back. Even on our one rainy day we didnât feel like we were missing out by staying in as it was so cosy sitting and looking out of the windows. I think it would be a good house to stay in at any time of year. Yes there are steps up to the property but the views you get once up there easily make up for this and if you carry on up the steps there are walks you can go on and even more extensive views. The owner was very helpful and responsive and we would definitely stay again.

I had a great week at Tirionfa.
The cottage was well equipped, clean and comfortable and as described on the website. The Welsh cakes, butter, fresh milk in the fridge and tea and coffee available on arrival was very welcoming. The owner returned my call quickly on arrival. I met her son later in the week who was great to chat to about farming. As well as a visitor book, the cottage provides really helpful details of amenities, suggestions and directions of places to visit. The village pub is friendly and welcoming. There is a Spa, chip shop, and other outlets in the next village. The area is friendly and I felt "at home" - a big thank you to everyone I met for being so welcoming. There were plenty of activities such as the steam train in Porthmadog, Harlech Castle and the beach which are dog and family friendly. I can certainly recommend Tirionfa as a super base for a memorable holiday.
