What our customers say about their holidays

6.5/10 cottage The location was great.
Lots of things to do and see on both foot, car and train. Thereâs a fast flowing stream 2 metres from the front door which was lovely - the dog loved her morning paddle and you could hear it slightly when sat in the lounge/ kitchen. Parking outside was easy - we managed to unload everything on the doorstep and then park on the shared off-road driveway. The log burner was lovely (and much needed in a cold March) and they provided a bag of large logs. The only negative to the house being upside down was that it was absolutely freezing downstairs (particularly the hallway, but both bedrooms too) as all the heat from the log burner rose. The heating was good but obviously would not come on if the log burner had been on as the temp gauge was upstairs (very cold mornings). Lovely kitchen - plenty of cutlery and plates provided, and washing machine was good. Comfy bed downstairs, and the shower was great. Lots of storage for coats and clothes. TV was good too, Netflix on there - just donât forget to log out! The little garden was perfect for our small cocker spaniel that doesnât jump, but if you have a dog that likes hopping short fences, Iâd be wary! We had to contact the cottage owner over a small query and he was very helpful and informative - lovely man to deal with if anything were to go wrong! The reason we wouldnât give the cottage anything above a 6.5 was itâs cleanliness. Normally, I overlook reviews about how dirty a place is but they were not wrong. The sofa cracks has mountains of crumbs in (which lifted onto the main cushions when you sat down), the floor had not been mopped nor hoovered properly and was incredibly dirty, under the sofa wasnât pleasant - our dogs toy got lost under there and it was not nice retrieving that! The kitchen pans had not been cleaned properly either and were lined with sticky white grease which we had to clean ourselves (bring your own induction pans as they were really bad - food getting stuck onto it even with a lot of oil), the log burner had not been cleaned (we cleaned it spotless ourselves) and soot went all over our clothing the first time we lit it. If they provided a hoover (which they need to!) we would have hoovered the place ourselves to make it more bearable. The cleanliness is not what you expect for a Sykes cottage, especially for the money you pay. Overall, it was a good stay and a lovely little cottage, itâs a shame a lot of the positive qualities were overshadowed by the dirt but if they upped their cleaning (considerably!) weâd stay here again.

The remote location is stunning and certainly the best thing about this cottage.
The owners seem very friendly - we met them both shortly. Overall a very good stay. Cleaning was very good in all rooms, but a bit below expectations in the kitchen. The dining table cover was dirty in various places, and the handles of some of the cabinets felt greasy. We had to rewash some of the dishes and pots, and there was no proper sponge available for doing so. There was also some pet hair on the stacked table set, on the unseen tables. In covid times, given the 'extra time' and attention allegedly given to cleaning, one expects all parts of the house to be spotless. The other parts of the house were all very clean, no complaints there. There was overall certainly enough room for us, but the pictures online are taken with a wide angle and in fact they are smaller than one is led to expect. The garden was fantastic, with amazing views over mountains, sea, and sunsets. The garden furniture was adequate, with a table for eating and chairs for lounging or reading. Bedding could be improved: the mattress felt old and a bit sunk, and the duvet and cover are cheap synthetic material that made us sweat every night. Bathroom was spotless and there was always warm water, which was a treat after wonderful hikes. Overall a very good stay, with some room for improvement as indicated. We can recommend this place, especially for the magical remote location and proximity to very good walks in the fascinating Rhinogydd/Rhinogs. The village of Llanbedr is 12 minute drive away (narrow road!) and the beach just a few minutes furhter.

The location is absolutely breath-taking.
It's about 3 miles along a single track road once you leave the main road, as you get more remote, so does the phone and 3/4/5G signal (honestly - this is not a bad thing!). The owners are great and very helpful making us very welcome. The property was clean and had all the amenities we needed for our stay. Itâs remote but it was refreshing to be away from everything and surrounded by mountains. No issues with the TV reception on the free-sat. Some mention the shower isn't very powerful - don't panic... it does the job perfectly! Some mention cleanliness, we didn't have any issues. Remember it is an old property and you'll find the odd cobweb etc. It's a 2 hour walk to the nearest pub (The Victoria Inn). The food there is excellent as was the 2 hour walk back. There is no Wi-Fi at the property and as already mentioned the phone signal is hit and miss. If you are looking for a digital de-tox... look no further! We would definitely stay here again. One issue which has been mentioned by others is the lintel over the lounge door which is a little low - if you are over 5'10" make sure you duck when leaving the lounge!

The owners were fantastic and couldnât have helped us more.
The property is very remote and our delivery didnât make it, so the owner gave us food and drink to be getting on with and toys for our little boy to play with too! They were so friendly and helpful. The property is set in the most beautiful surroundings and we couldnât fault the location. The beds were comfy and the towels were lovely and soft. We were left a lovely bottle of wine and juice for our boy on arrival, which was a lovely touch. There were enough plates/utensils etc and it was easy to cook in the house. The views were fabulous and we loved the proximity to the beach. However, we felt the property was overpriced. Whilst it was lovely and we had a great time, for the amount we paid, we expected a little more luxury. The boiler was very noisy and kept us awake and the hot water was intermittent.

Liked the cottage and location.
Unfortunately, our July weather was more like that in April - cool, showery - and we couldn't use the cottage heating properly as there were no instructions for the thermostat/controller. The timer was set on double Summer Time, but didn't seem to switch on/off on a timer anyway. We managed to switch on & off the heating manually by raising or lowering the temperature setting. We didn't manage to get the radio to work, although it was switched on (and buzzing). We couldn't see the radio controls very well as ,like the thermostat, it was too high up - and no handbook. Otherwise, we had a good time, and would recommend the cottage. It is well maintained, clean and comfortable. Just needs some basic instructions, especially for the heating and what to do with rubbish.
