What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Smith - Verified booking
We loved this place! The owner was very friendly and welcoming. Fresh milk, wine and homemade buns were waiting for us which was very much appreciated after our long journey. This place had everything we needed along with a little basket of dog items (bowl, blanket, poo bags, towels and treats) - another thoughtful gesture. The accommodation was not only clean and comfortable but had an air of luxury about it with a spacious bathroom containing a large walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bath. The bedroom, also very spacious has a comfortable bed with little lights all around it. It felt quite romantic and looked so pretty. The little lights were also in the living area and the “safe” candles were a lovely touch. The kitchen area seems in two parts but don’t worry, you quickly get used to it and it has everything you need. Whilst you have to go down steps to the garden area, it is so worth it! It is an enclosed and private garden, this was important for us as we took our old dog with us and we knew he was safe. We very much enjoyed the hot tub and a real stroke of genius having the shepherds hut to change in, use the loo, store items etc. The artificial grass was a bonus too. So much nicer underfoot than shingle which we’ve previously had in holiday cottages. The location is beautiful and a good base for exploring Cornwall. Definitely recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I have stayed in several of Sykes holiday cottages and Ostlers was by far the best.
The owner's hospitality was second to none. No complaints at all, only plaudits. Being a Cotswold rural cottage, one can expect a few 'foreign bodies' and I did have to hoover on arrival to remove spiders and cobwebs. I still found a dead spider in the bed on the first night - I must have layed on it. On a matter of generalisation and regarding key access, it was quite stressful to find that on telephoning the owner 6 hours prior to arrival, whilst en route from Holyhead Port, that the provided number was unobtainable. This continued for 3 hours until, in desperation, I had to contact Sykes directly to be given a different number to call. All available contact telephone numbers need to be offered to customers. With Ostlers, the owner lives next door but we did not know that. What if the owner is remote and cannot be contacted? Sykes should ensure this cannot happen.

Ostlers was well equipped and had all we needed for our stay.
Pat the owner had supplied a cream tea with lovely home made scones as well as tea, coffee and sugar. Although neither of the pubs in the village served food, we had a huge delicious meal at the Yew Tree just a few minutes drive away, as well as a meal the Kings Head a little further away. Mitcheldean does have a variety of take-aways. Whilst staying there we visited Gloucester and Ross on Wye, as well as a couple of riverside walks along the river Severn and river wye at Symondâs Yat, though be prepared to drive down some very narrow roads! We also walked the Sculpture Trail in the Forest of Dean and visited the magical Puzzlewood, a setting for many films and TV shows including Star Wars and Merlin. All in all a great week, with fair weather too!

We enjoyed our week at Ostlers.
The substantial welcome pack was good to receive on our arrival with treats for both humans and canines. Ostlers is a cosy, clean, well equipped cottage with a good outside space. The cottage was a perfectly good size for the two of us and our dog. The owner lives nearby. She was very friendly and gave us ideas on pubs and restaurants. The weather was mostly very good during our stay and so we spent a lot of time walking trails in the Forest of Dean to get some shade for our dog. We drove to Ross on Wye where we walked by the river, Symonds Yat and Monmouth. All are worth a visit. We had one meal out at the Farmer's Boy Inn at Longhope. The staff were very friendly, definitely dog friendly and the food was good, especially if you like a pies!

Situated centrally in Mitcheldean.
Near Shops, takeaways & 2 very friendly pubs. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable & well laid out. On arrival greeted by owner who helped us settle in (showed us where everything was & layout of area). Although the weather was not great & sun down was early, this did not detract from us getting out & about. Visited the close by towns & villages, Gloucester, Ross, Tewkesbury, Monmouth & others. Recommend speaking to locals (we did in the pub) to discover places of interest & special walks with views & hidden delightful villages, such as Tintern Parva. We will certainly keep this Holiday Home in our places to revisit book. Lastly, the owner is very charming & helpful, thank you. Anne & Robert
