Dog Friendly Whitley Bay Holiday Cottages

With gorgeous beaches, great seafood, and tons of pet-friendly, independent shops and cafes, this jewel in the northeast of England makes for an amazing seaside getaway. Browse our luxurious range of dog-friendly cottages in Whitley Bay and find out why so many people come back after their first visit.

Dog-friendly Holidays in Whitley Bay

If you’re ready to escape to the coast with your pooch, head to the heart of the Northumberland coastline. The Northern section of Whitley Bay Beach is dog-friendly and offers miles of golden sands. You can also enjoy Longsand North near Cullercoats which is backed by dunes for your dog to roam across.

For more outdoor fun, discover St. Mary's Lighthouse on St. Mary's Island. You can only access the island at low tide, but if you and your four-legged friend are up to the 137 steps that lead to the lighthouse you'll be rewarded with the best view of the Northumberland coast there is.

Of course, no trip to Whitley Bay would be complete without amazing seafood. The seafront has a number of award-winning options to choose from.

For an authentic seaside dining experience, we’d also recommend the dog-friendly Riley's Fish Shack, just down the road in Tynemouth. Named the 'eating experience of the year' by Jay Rayner, the shack was originally a food stall and has grown to encompass two whole shipping containers right on the beach at King Edwards Bay.

The Whitley Bay Promenade has plenty of independent gems to shop and eat at too. And if it's raining outside we recommend taking some shelter inside The Rendezvous Cafe for some tea, cakes and ice cream.

Types of Dog-Friendly Accommodation in Whitley Bay

From converted fishermen’s cottages on the waves to stylish log cabins in the countryside, our collection of dog-friendly accommodation in Whitley Bay has something for everyone.

Pet-Friendly Holidays in Whitley Bay by the Sea

Browse through our catalogue to find lodges by the seafront, cosy cottages nestled in the coast, and stylish modern homes with charming nautical decor.

In our seaside properties, you can expect fantastic amenities like on-site private parking, outdoor hot tubs, and large boot rooms to change in after a muddy walk. Some properties also feature unique activities like on-site fishing.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Su - Verified booking

After travelling from Inverness to my native NE several times a year for the last 19 years to visit family and friends, we have stayed at dozens of holiday lets, but this is our favourite and the best by far.

Communication with the owner prior and throughout was excellent. So friendly and polite. Earsdon is a lovely little country village and perfectly based for visiting the coast. Having the best of both worlds was especially wonderful as we could take our little dog, who was spoiled for walks. We booked the cottage for 2 weeks over Christmas and it was lush walking in to see it decked out with a gorgeous tree, a garland running up the stair, a wreath and cute little decorations. All very tasteful and in keeping with the stunning decor. It smelled/smelt (never know which it is!) gorgeous too. It was immaculate, and so warm and cosy. This meant so much to me as we’ve walked into some places rated 4&5 star and they’ve been filthy and run down! They left a very impressive festive hamper on the table for us which was so thoughtful and kind. Got tucked into the cheesy crackers straight away. Such a warm welcome. The kitchen is so well kitted out. It even has a crock pot, which we used once to do a curry. We ate out mostly though as there are such nice places to eat nearby (the beehive along the road and 1910 at the Spanish city). I can’t even tell you how great it was to have a tumble dryer! God send. All high end appliances. Lovely comfy beds. So quiet at night! I can’t recommend this gorgeous little cottage enough. Will defo be booking again, delightful. Thank you so much to the wonderful hosts, it would be nice to meet you guys one day! X

The cottage is set in a great location within Cullercoats.

Minutes’ walk from the local beaches and local amenities. 5 minute walk to the Metro station which is ideal if you planning a trip to Newcastle and other areas. The cottage downstairs is spacious and ideal for couples. The only problem is the front door does not open or lock from the inside which is an issue getting to and from the car etc this needs to be resolved (we are a bit disappointed as a previous review had already highlighted this problem) not sure how the door issue would stand with health and safety of the property. the multi fuel burner is very cosy I would suggest some tools to help with the fire (tongs etc) The upstairs main bedroom is a good size with plenty of space to store your clothes, the bed is a good size and comfortable however the damp patch on the ceiling is not a nice thing to wake up to also you just need to remember the low ceiling if you wake up in the night. the second bedroom with two single beds is cosy. The kitchen is clean and narrow and as most of the implements you would require to cook although it does lack a corkscrew and bottle opener, the damage to the ceiling could do with some repair. The toilet and bath/shower room are at the end of the kitchen it is clean and cosy, however the water temperature is tepid at best not ideal a very quick shower is best. Overall, the cottage is great.

Lovely house in a great location!

Generally well presented but could to with a little more attention to detail (or additional time for paid cleaners?) in some areas on the cleaning. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped but lacking oven gloves, and a few more bowls and cutlery would have been handy. The towels could do with a bleach too, or if using eco friendly washing products it may be wise not to have 'white' ones... The issue with the bedroom door handles provided us with a good laugh the first morning but is actually serious and needs addressing. People cannot get out of bedroom 2 if bedroom 1 door is shut as the handles cannot pass each other. Bedroom 1 needs to leave the door 'pushed to' rather than closed to get around this. Previous guests had left a soaking wet tea towel inside the closed washing machine so it was smelly! machine cleaning cycle run - sorted... and done a fairly rubbish job of cleaning crockery too, but putting it through the dishwasher solved this... Some people!? On the more positive side the cottage is full of character, the space is lovely and comfy in the main living area, and the shower is instant and always warm. Neighbours were quiet and the location is second to none for access to local shops and beach. Great to have the enclosed yard space for the dog to safely go out too. We would stay again :)

The cottage was in a great location, the beds were comfy, the living space generous and it was mostly well equipped.

However, the dishwasher wasn’t working and obviously hadn’t been used for a while due to condition inside. There was no information to say it wasn’t so we wasted quite a lot of time trying to get it to work. Couldn’t get through to Sykes and there were no other contact details. Someone arrived on our last day to replace it but said they had been told the cottage would be empty. Also there was no green bin outside for the external rubbish and no way of reporting this. It looked as though previous guests had been using the recycling bin for all rubbish so it was getting really full. We were worried this would not be collected on collection day but luckily it was, perhaps as we had only used it for recycling thereafter. The cottage appeared clean and tidy but we soon realised that there was quite a lot of dust. The bathroom door didn’t shut. Overall we enjoyed our stay but with a bit of attention to maintenance, cleanliness and communication it could have been a lot better.

This was a lovely cottage for two and we had a great stay.

the accommodation was comfortable and surprisingly spacious and the kitchen was equipped with all we required for our stay. Beds were very comfortable, the shower was simple to use and all was clean and ready for our arrival. A few things would have made our stay even better: 1) there were no directions sent re parking which is not actually on Simpson St itself and we located it thanks to the help of a neighbour. Directions would have been helpful. 2) the lack of side tables in the lounge area made it difficult to relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea as there was nowhere else to place them but on the floor. 3) some of the instructions in the manual in the cottage were lacking - e.g. there was no detail as to what rubbish or recycling went in which bin; no details re how the thermostat controlling the heating worked. Finally, we discovered when attempting to put the heating on one evening that the thermostat unit's batteries were dead and needed replacing.
