What our customers say about their holidays

Alwinton Lodge is a comfortable welcoming home from home.

The kitchen especially is very well equipped. Cooking with a set of three saucepans, a large sauté pan and a full set of tools was a pleasure. Dogs are catered for with their own doggy box. We did not use this however, because our mini-Schnauzer, Archie, has his own holiday kit. He did enjoy the treats that were left though. Northumberland is very dog friendly. Archie visited Cragside and Bamburgh Castle with us and enjoyed all their outdoor spaces. The road adjoining Fram Park does not have a pavement, but there is a grass verge up to the pavement further up the road. Archie had full days out with us, so did not need very long early morning walks. While is it is essential to have a car to get around, there is free parking in Alnwick. We enjoyed a bus ride on the X18 with Archie to Morpeth. This is an interesting town to visit with pleasant river walks through their park. In Alnwick, the Information Centre is part of the Playhouse/Library complex. There are no signs outside and even the locals do not know where the I.C. is. All staff were very helpful and gave lots of useful and interesting information. This was an extremely relaxing week, enjoying sunny autumn days in the natural beauty of Northumberland countryside. I would highly recommend this lodge if you like peace, tranquillity and dark starry skies. We look forward to staying here again at a different time of year.

Lost Lobster Cottage is absolutely gorgeous, I especially loved all of the lobster themed decorations and mugs! I have historically looked for properties in the Warkworth area but wanted to find a new location for exploring a different part of the coast. Lost Lobster has all the character and charm of what I have come to love about booking with Coquet Cottages. It really is such a lovely cottage, so warm and well equipped. It felt like a family home rather than a holiday home. The kitchen is amazing, even down to the recipe books. The shower and bath are just such a luxury and I made the most of a good deep bath to soothe my tired legs after long beach walks. The beds are super comfortable and it was so nice to sleep in bedding like the ones I have at home. The front and back porches made it so easy make sure our dogs were clean and not bringing sand and muck into the rest of house. Coquet Cottages will always be my go to company for my trips to Northumberland because the standard and attention to detail of all your cottages is beyond brilliant.

We stayed here for a week. Lost Lobster is a great find, the best of many cottages we have visited in Northumberland. Everything we could possibly need was provided and the property was immaculately clean. Fixtures, fittings and utensils are high quality and the cottage is so comfortable. Two lovely warm bedrooms, one twin and one king size. The lounge is large and comfortable with two gorgeous sofas, log burner and a smart tv. The kitchen, also a good size, it had all we needed. The garden is a good size and fully enclosed. Perfect! This cottage felt more like a home than a holiday cottage. It’s location in Embleton is a few minutes walk from two pubs and a small shop for basic provisions. Our favourite pub in the area is The Ship Inn in Low Newton, five minutes drive or half an hours walk over the dunes or along the beach for the best crab sandwiches in the world … in our opinion. All in all a fabulous cottage, if we could give it more than five stars we would! A credit to its owner and housekeeper. We will return.

We have had nothing but compliments on our fabulous first time stay in Northumberland. The cottage is without doubt one of the most cosy, stylish and well thought out we have ever stayed in. All the little touches and details really do get noticed and make you feel at home. We loved the scones and doggie hamper. All the quirky Lost Lobster references too! Beds were outstandingly comfortable and the log burner a winner. We loved Embleton and the beach here. Perfect position to explore Northumberland. Had a great meal at The Greys Inn & The Jolly Fisherman and enjoyed a memorable day out to Lindisfarne and Bamburgh. Amble is definitely worth a trip too and we will be visiting Alnwick and Druridge Bay on our way home today. One of the highlights of our week was braving the alarm clock and heading down to Embleton beach for sunrise by the castle. Truly spectacular and would recommend highly. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. PS It was great not to have to bring bottles of shampoo and shaver gel etc.

If one of your holiday rules is to never stay anywhere that’s not as good as or better than home, Lost Lobster Cottage doesn’t disappoint. The spacious cottage is comfortable and stylish, cosy and homely, with everything you need to relax and de-stress, the perfect holiday bolt hole. It’s furnished and decorated to a very high standard and with great care and has a selection of books and games for rainy day relaxation. Perfect for dogs, with loads of towels, it has a hallway that’s great to dry off, spare leads, dog bowls and comfy spots to laze about. Buddy and Clarice loved it!  The garden is a quiet sun trap, perfect for watching the birds, or the cricket in summer. Embleton is a pretty village with three places to eat within walking distance, as well as a well stocked shop and stunning coastline and walks on the doorstep. Not sure how it could be any better.

Frequent questions

  • What are the best dog friendly cottages in Northumberland?

We love this stunning bungalow in Morpeth, a two bedroom cottage located near Northumberland National Park with modern but cosy furnishings. But to be honest, you can't go wrong with any of our Northumberland dog friendly cottages!

  • How do I pick dog friendly accommodation?

When choosing dog friendly cottages in Northumberland, consider factors such as pet policies, available amenities for pets, proximity to dog-friendly beaches and attractions, countryside walks and parks, and reviews from previous guests with pets. Always communicate with the accommodation provider beforehand to ensure they meet your pet's needs and adhere to any specific requirements or restrictions. For example, if you need a spacious cottage with room for your four legged friend to make lots of noise, choose a detached holiday cottage with an enclosed garden and a pet friendly washing machine for all those muddy paw prints on towels and dog hair on blankets.

  • Where are the best places to stay in Northumberland National Park?

The best places to stay in Northumberland National Park often include charming villages such as Rothbury, Bellingham, and Wooler, which offer a range of accommodation options and easy access to the park's stunning landscapes. Additionally, the town of Hexham, just outside the park's southern boundary, also serves as a great base with its amenities and historical local attractions. We've got dog friendly cottages in Northumberland all over the county, so you won't have to look far to find one you want!

  • What facilities should I look for when choosing dog friendly cottages in Northumberland?

When selecting dog friendly cottages in Northumberland, look for facilities such as secure and enclosed gardens for your pet to play safely, nearby access to dog-friendly walking trails and parks, pet-friendly amenities, and any specific rules or policies regarding pets. Additionally, consider accommodations with easy-to-clean flooring and provisions for dogs' comfort, such as dog beds or bowls. If you're lucky enough to find somewhere with a pet friendly washing machine, it'll make clearing your clothes of pet hair a breeze!
