What our customers say about their holidays

Altogether disappointing.
This is a reflection on the overall presentation, comfort, and value of the property as well as the lack of assistance from the Sykes customer services team, who were less than helpful during our stay. Firstly, the dishwasher top tray is broken and looks like it has been for some time, without being addressed. Everything comes crashing down if you try to pull out the top tray to put dishes in it as the main support on the left hand side has completely come away. The bathroom is quite shabby and is in need of a good lick of durable bathroom paint throughout. There is also no proper shower head that you can actually stand under and get a decent shower, only a hand spray mounted on the wall which is actually meant for cleaning the bath. The quilts on the beds in the twin room are not very comfortable and are just cheap wadding inside a translucent nylon sheath. The duvet covers on these quilts don't have fastenings and so therefore tend to ride up away from the inner quilt. More importantly, there is a lot of mis-representation around the provision of towels. The confirmation I received after booking said that the majority of properties have towels and linens provided, however there were no towels at the property. Sykes also send as a reminder, a list of items you might need during your stay, and towels don't even make an appearance on that list, although a picnic basket does (go figure!). I even spoke to Sykes before departure and verified the need for a tea towel which they recommend, and at no point did they even care to mention that as well as a tea towel, we also needed to bring bath towels! Would have been quite a simple and helpful tip. I called Sykes on arrival about this and despite them confirming quite abruptly that no towels were provided at the property, it seems to be at odds with a notice on the dining table that before your departure, you are meant to deposit your bed linens AND TOWELS in the linen bag provided ready for laundering! How does this even make any sense if no towels are meant to be provided? Sykes had no answer for this and promised to get back to me but never did for the duration of the week. Also, be aware that no toilet rolls are provided and there is nothing to wash individual dishes with by hand in the kitchen sink if not using the broken dishwasher. Quite honestly, I could have booked other properties at a much more reasonable price, all of which provided towels for their guests, as has been my experience with all other properties I have stayed at. Over-priced for what it is sadly.

This was our first time in Cornwall so we were really excited to stay in number 39.
It is a really quiet, peaceful, safe place. In a great location, lots of space, clean and tidy. Fab facilities - most appliances seemed new. DVD player and dvds brilliant for the evening. Our children loved the fudge/shortbread/harribo gifts. Plenty of towels, and plenty of cleaning products too. There were some things that I felt i needed to mention: A long handle sweeping brush and a vacuum cleaner would be useful (especially the vac if pets stay) Instruction manual for warm water, shower, washer, leaving the property (what is required regarding bedding and towels), site facilities etc.. would be useful. New shower as the current one is not very powerful. Colander in the cupboard needs a good wash as it looks mouldy. One of the chairs needs fixing as one of the bars kept popping out and the table needs tightening up. The bedrooms are damp - bedding feels damp/cold every night, clothing feels damp and smells musty. We left the windows on the latch to help with condensation but nothing really worked. Wardrobes smell really musty so we couldnât use them. Unfortunately we had to leave a night early as the dampness set off one of my childrenâs and husbands asthma. So we felt it best to leave early to ease the asthma cough/breathlessness. Apart from the dampness we had a lovely stay.

We liked the âBeach Houseâ very much - it was ample for our needs.
The beds were comfortable and it had a lovely large kitchen. It was a shame that the tumble dryer wasnât working as we got extremely wet due to the weather and it would have been handy to dry clothes quickly. We found the heating controls problematic and one night when the temperature dropped we were struggling to keep warm. I donât think the radiator in the kitchen ever came on during our stay. There were a few cobwebs and accompanying spiders on the stairwell/ceiling corners but no real problem. It was tricky to get in and out of the shower due to the towel radiator blocking the screen. We had to manouver over the toilet to get in and out, but the bathroom was lovely and warm. The owner might want to make it clear about the rubbish arrangements. It was confusing to have a council notice and recycle options but it would appear that there was no recycling because a business contract was in place for rubbish removal. The house was ideally situated for us, central to the places we wanted to visit and walkable to the pub. I also took the dog for a walk to Polzeath which was great.

Beautiful little chalet.
The website says to take tea towels etc but it actually had it all there. Was very clean and surprisingly spacious. We only stayed for 2 days as we were more in the area to see family than have a holiday. Would have been nice to use the pools, but it says only available if the chalet owner has a swim membership. We couldn't find that information anywhere so assumed we couldn't use it. Also the TV has sky but it was not working, it didn't think it was connected to the Internet. The Internet was working fine as we all connected to the wifi. Anyway the vast dvd collection saved the day. The key code is given as 1970 but actually its 1980 so we were lucky to get in. Improvements, add a park map to show where it is and where to park and maybe a welcome pack. We would definitely stay here again.
