What our customers say about their holidays

  • Lynda - Verified booking

Unfortunately I have tried several times to send this email to you but it has bounced back.

We left the property Thursday, a day there would be time to get some of these problems sorted. I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter and what goodwill you intend for a ruined holiday due to inadequate inspection of a supposedly “outstanding” property. “Having just called your colleague at Sykes. This is the email that you should have received.” “Our holiday - not outstanding!! Before your next guests arrive, you need to address a few items which I list below that we have found defective and very annoying after looking forward to our holiday for nearly a year. On previous holiday we’ve had for two consecutive weeks, we’ve had the option of a clean midway through and beds changed, plus clean towels, tea towels, etc. no email was received about this. 1. Dishwasher needs cleaning. We don’t intend to spend our long awaited holiday cleaning someone else’s dishwasher. On arrival had to hand wash mugs, etc before using the ones already in the cupboard. When running the dishwasher with our first load of dishes, they came out with bits all over. So we’ve had to wash up by hand for our holiday. Not something we do at home. 2. Tumble Dryer not working. Went to tumble dry some wet clothing and the Tumble Dryer just buzzes loudly and doesn’t tumble. Tried several times. Needs attention or replacing. Ended up having wet clothing hanging everywhere due to bad weather. Not great when we thought we’d have this facility. 3. The Sony TV in the lounge is so ancient, you have to wait for the picture to come through before a fuzzy picture comes on the screen. A sign it’s just about to pack up completely. Thought there would have been one Smart TV here. I recently bought a second hand one for £30. Very disappointed. 4. The house cleanliness is not good mould, etc. 5. The TV in the twin bedded room didn’t seem to work and must be at least 20 years or more old. Bought one of these in 1980s. 6. Taps are wrong way round on some facilities. I believe by law the plumbing should have cold on the right and hot on the left. This was so poor sighted people don’t burn themselves. For the cost of the holiday, we’re expecting far more. The house very antiquated. Yes we could have reported earlier but we didn’t want to have to wait in for trades people to come and fix the problem during our holiday or let them in whilst we were away from the property. You would have had to pay us £10 an hour for wait time. Very disappointed. On arriving we couldn’t get out of the back door as the wrong keys had been left. The key on the conservatory was stuck and wouldn’t turn. Fortunately a trades guy was sent by you who fixed this problem fairly quickly but we had two dogs in the car that needed to get in the garden and stretch their legs. The fan light in top bedroom needed a part which we were told would be fixed. It still needs fixing. We couldn’t open until your tradesman. The back gate was bolted so there was no way of gaining entry there or from the back door (no key) or the conservatory (key stuck). The metal garden furniture is rusty and should be removed. The path to the back garden is very steep and loads of trip hazards. Anyone children, elderly etc. who is a little unsteady, for whatever reason, it is dangerous. Wouldn’t recommend it for anyone with disabilities. The overflow by the kitchen door has been dripping constantly and has proceeded to get worse since we’ve been here. Needs attention. Cold tap on basin in twin bedded room, no water. Access to the front of the property is extremely poor with three steep steps curving round, so one side of the tread is non existent. The photos of the property and garden are misleading. Monday 12 September, the lights in the lounge keep fading and going out, making us feel unsure of the safety of the electrics.” Regards, Lynda Skinner

    Stunning views and location.

Shower overlooking the sea is great. Has potential to be a showstopper if it was well maintained, such a shame it is not. Cleaning was poor, we rectified this as we saw little point in having the cleaners return if they did a poor job the first time. All other faults were reported, they offered an electrician but we just avoided the problematic light so as not to have more disruption, other faults such as torn curtains, leaking windows and dirty carpets etc were not offered rectification but were to be notified to owner, with photographs of everything provided. 1st floor Bedroom carpet is stained, old and needs replacing. Bay window leaks, hole in the armchair, curtains don’t meet and the backings are torn. Main Toilet seat doesn’t fit. Downstairs shower head fell off, dirty toothbrush holders and foul loo brush, also needed to flush loo throughout the day to keep bad smells at bay. Sofa Cushions in sunroom are heavily stained. Main Kitchen worktop needs attention where wood has blackened and mastic is peeling off, seat pads need cleaning. The landing light is beautiful but it doesn’t always work and makes a fizz noise. It is also connected to the second floor stairs light so you can’t use if people on 2nd floor are asleep which is a bit dangerous on main staircase. Extra care is needed on the large steps down into the bathroom, not suitable for small children. Smallest double and kids beds are very hard mattresses. Sadly it is charging for the excellent views and location but not reflecting the current poor standard of maintenance and fixtures. Would not recommend especially as there are some wonderful properties in the area.

    Bell Cliff House is beautiful!

It is full of character and style and is very spacious and comfortable. We have been visiting Lyme Regis for the last 20 years and have stayed in a variety of accommodation, but Bell Cliff House was a unique experience. Stunning views from every room meant we could enjoy the sea and beach no matter what the weather was doing and watch as Lyme came to life from first thing in the morning to the moon over the sea at night. We enjoyed being right amongst the activity of the town too, with everything so conveniently near. The terrace was such a joy - to be able to sit and have a drink outside and enjoy the sea view in comfort was very special. The sunroom was a lovely place to sit too. The main bathroom was great - the shower was luxurious. However, the other two showers were far less appealing. Perhaps it’s a material shower curtains in a relatively small space? Only one niggle - clear instructions regarding the disposal of rubbish would be very helpful. I noticed from reviews that others have had the same problem. I never found the seagull sacks - I didn’t know what I was looking for, or where. Plus no indication of where to leave the rubbish? Just outside the front door (bearing in mind it gets very busy there as there are shops and a cafe right outside the door!) or near the roadside? In the end we took our rubbish out regularly to bins nearby which was ok but clear instructions would have solved this. We had a wonderful holiday in Lyme Regis - so much to enjoy. Bell Cliff House played a huge part in that, it really is a fabulous place to stay!

The property has a great location, we really enjoyed the sea views, the balcony and easy walking distance to places.

The wooden spiral staircase & top bedroom were lovely. A few basics which would go a long way to feeling welcome on arrival - Pint of milk in the fridge - Biscuits or cake - A few teabags - 7 dishwasher tablets to provide for daily use - Fresh flowers - Fresh new bed linen - the pillow cases although clean need replacing- heavily yellowed staining - the duvet covers were cream but the sheets were white. The beds felt rather uninviting. A quick check of all appliances whilst cleaning between guests eg The middle floor shower thermostat was broken & could not be used - Sadly this was by far the best shower & we would all have used this one had it been working. The ground floor shower enclosure was tiny and had a curtain across it which is a rather outdated & uncomfortable concept. The shower head could not be fixed to the bracket - I realised this issue when my 2nd daughter arrived Tuesday evening. (This was repaired on Thursday before we left on Saturday) The top floor shower was also a small enclosure with a curtain which results in an unpleasant cold wet fabric. We all used this one shower due to the issues cited above. Batteries for the radio (I bought some & left them for future guests) The dishwasher was registering low Salt & rinse aid but none available to refill No jug in either kitchen. No plastic containers- Tupperware items which are really useful Apologies, I didn’t find the seagull proof rubbish bag until the end of the week.

    We enjoyed our stay.

The house was spotlessly clean, warm and comfy and the goody bag a very welcome treat, thank you! The parking was a bit tricky because of the awkward camber on the drive but with three cars in total we really appreciated it. Without it parking in Lyme would've been a nightmare! We didn't bring the dogs in the end but the house was very well equipped for them. Only a couple of minor points and suggestions. The curtains in the top double bedroom were very flimsy and kept coming off the rail. Lined curtains would be better at keeping the light out. The dishwasher is far too small: although it's hard to see where a full sized one would fit, it's quite inadequate for the number of guests the house can accommodate. Perhaps a solar light to aid parking at night would have prevented an argument with the low wall when squeezing into the double space! Finally, just a suggestion that it would be nice to have a large oven proof casserole dish - the one provided had plastic handles so we didn't use it - and not every family will eat out/have takeaways every night! Notwithstanding, it was a very comfortable and pleasant house to stay in and if we go back to Lyme again with the dogs we'd book it again.
