What our customers say about their holidays

We were informed at 2pm that the cottage was ready for us, when originally we were told that we wouldn't have access until 4pm to enable extra cleaning of the property due to Covid19.
We arrived in the early evening and were very alarmed to find the cottage hardly cleaned at all, as follows: -the fridge had not been cleaned, it had remains of food and hair in it. I had to take out all of the shelves and thoroughly clean them. -the fridge door and freezer door had finger marks and stains on it - we cleaned them off -the light switch in the kitchen had dirty finger prints on it - we had to wipe all of the light switches with sanitiser. -the table in the dining room had food stains on it - we cleaned it -the table in the garden was filthy - we cleaned it -the bedside tables had cup marks and the bedside lights were dusty and had obviously never been cleaned - the mirrors still had splats on them prom previous guests -the top bunk sheet had black hairs in it -the sides of the bunks were sticky and had marks all over them -the bath had stains on it -the floor throughout the whole of the downstairs was filthy and had grubby corners and edges - the skirting boards were absolutely disgusting and looked like they had never been cleaned -the walls in the dining room had dog slobber marks on them -some of the cutlery in the cutlery draw still had food on them As you can imagine we were hugely disappointed with the state of the property; these issues would be bad enough under old normal circumstances, but are outrageous during a pandemic. We did not contact the owner as we had already cleaned the majority of the places/items that required cleaning. Also our luggage was now in the house and as there is a pandemic did not want somebody else entering the property to come in whilst we were there. As we had had spent hours cleaning on arrival we also did not want our holiday disrupted any further.

I enjoyed a relaxing week's holiday in Captain's Cottage and found the accommodation comfortable and well-equipped.
It is well maintained, although the glass in the front door has no blind on the inside. The door frame would suit a decent door curtain to would make it more cosy in the evening. There were some minor issues that could be checked and attended to at changeover: a spotlight was out, the pedal on the bin did not work, a couple of bedroom louver blinds needed minor repair. The outside area at the front of the cottage is now enclosed with a gate and metal fence since some of the photos were taken, adding privacy and it is pleasant to sit outside in the sunshine for breakfast. The proximity of the pub should be noted because their outdoor seating is very close by so there are loud voices and occasionally live music. It did not bother me but the cottage is not soundproofed (!) so it is worth considering if you are seeking an oasis of tranquillity in the evening. Other reviews mentioned biscuits and wine on arrival but that seems to have ceased, or I was unlucky. The fresh milk was appreciated nevertheless. Sheringham has lots of cottages to choose from and this one was more expensive than others I have used, but it was well located and furnished and I would stay there again.

Our holiday at Captainâs Cottage in Sheringham was delightful.
Sheringham is a lovely small costal town with friendly dog loving locals who were most welcoming. The beach was unspoilt, wild at times with long, cold, bracing and awesome winter walks. The cottage was warm and welcoming and very comfortable. The organised layout made for a relaxing stay, with all the convenience of home but with a local, seaside cottage vibe. The deep bath was luxurious and the modern shower welcome after a cold day out exploring with one of my dogs âParkerâ. A fluffy towel would have added a touch more luxury. I was grateful for the offer of wine and milk in the fridge, (although not needed in my case) and tea, coffee and lovely biscuits when I arrived. I found the whole stay wonderful and just what was needed; a welcome break from the pressures of the NHS (work). The hosts had left instructions for all appliances and local information to help plan my stay. Definitely recommend this clean, organised, comfortable home in a beautiful small town almost on the sea front. Thanks for a lovely holiday. Ele and Parker.

Lovely small fisherman's cottage with lots of character.
Lovely comfortable bed with feather down bedding. Bathroom and shower was good and spacious. There was a couple of umbrellas provided in case of bad weather. Really nice touches on our arrival was, fresh milk; coffee; tea and a box of biscuits waiting for us. Neighbours are very friendly and helpful with lots of information and tips. Good fish and chips and Chinese takeaway just around the corner. The beach is only a five minute walk away and the pub is just across the road (but can be very noisy with patrons and loud music on some evenings but this usually ended at 11:00pm). There's plenty of good local shops and for steam buffs there's the North Norfolk Steam Railway nearby. Overall everything about the house was good. However, there were some issues: Only one black bag was provided in the kitchen; the DAB radio wasn't working; the freezer door in the fridge was broken; only half the toaster was working and found some marks on hand towel in bathroom.

Just can't get over how disgusted I was by our treatment by a housekeeper.
She knocked loudly on the door at 10am!! We were all ready to leave. The house was spotless. She was then aggressive to us -i honestly was flabbergasted !!! I went back into the lounge to check the owners clock. It was only one minute past ten!!! I have a son was autism who just needs to use the toilet a couple minutes before we go to make sure he is ok for the journey home on the train. I have rented cottages for many years and haven't experienced anything like this. Unfortunately when I phoned Sykes to complain the young lady was really 'not bothered' and said in a very bored voice -well what do you want us to do'?!?!? Sadly it took all the shine off a lovely holiday. We had really enjoyed our stay until that moment.
