What our customers say about their holidays
Emma - Verified booking
In short, a stunning cottage, brilliant location, right on the beach.
Nice garden, I'd say semi-secure for those with dogs. Absolutely recommend, lovely place! For those wanting more detail: *For reactive dog owners* If you have an escape artist I'd probably just take a long line for night time toileting as fencing could be jumped. I only mention the next part because it's something that I have to carefully assess and not many people mention in reviews. If you have a reactive dog/s then this place would not be ideal in peak season. I imagine it would be very very busy. We went in November and lucked out with the weather. The beach was quiet so we could get out with the dogs easily and rarely encounter many other dogs. My dog gets too excited on lead and had everywhere been full (holiday cottages, YHA and massive campsite behind) I imagine it would of been a nightmare for us as he barks at everything he wants to say hello to, hence the low season holiday. There are amazing walks nearby, some more challenging than others. Also, Rhossili beach is about 25 minutes away by car, it's worth a trip and is dog friendly. The house was modern throughout, recently painted and well maintained. For the log burner, I'd take wood with you as the petrol station was quite expensive and the wood was damp and difficult to light. The smart central heating was a little confusing so we were glad of the fire. We finally figured out how to use it after googling it. Kitchen had all the utensils, could have done with a cupboard for storing food though as all had something in them. Take sponges, washing up liquid/tablets, bin bags, washing powder and toilet rolls. Personally I think these should all be in minimal supply for the price paid and not everything was available. The internet was better than we thought it would be. Definitely can not rely on it for work though. Smart TV streaming services could be glitchy but we were out on the beach a lot so weren't fussed. Vodafone had 0 network at all so if phonecalls are a must it was WhatsApp via the WiFi. Sykes tried to contact me and left a message that I didn't get unti 3 days later. Perhaps email contact from Sykes would be better? Getting to the cottage in the dark was okay but definitely don't forget the head torch. Not a place for those with mobility issues in my opinion. Directions on the site made sense only if you could see clearly. We arrived in the pitch black and luckily had looked on Google satalite view earlier so I knew which track I needed to drive down. I'd say follow signs for the youth hostel (YHA signs on lamposts) just to the left of the campsite entrance down a bumpy track. When you get to the gate with the padlock drive straight over the grass in front of you and park when you can't go any further due to bushes and unload here. Through a hidden opening in the bushes you go on foot down some steep steps. At the bottom of the steps turn left and follow the path around to the front of the building (you'll see beach access to the left, you'll follow path around to the right though). Follow path along the front of YHA and go through small gate with 'private' on it. Ours was the second to last cottage. Parking permit was on the table and the parking a shortish distance from the cottage back along the bumpy track.

Bad bits: 1.
We were devastated and hurt to receive a message on our way home from Sykes, just 2 hours after checkout, saying the owner had reported we had damaged their hot tub. We are conscientious people and looked after everything as if it was our own⦠so we were of course insulted to be accused so quickly of damage, which we absolutely had not caused. I have to add that there were no photos provided to back up such accusations or even any finer details of what we had supposedly done. This completely put a downer on our holiday. We cleaned the cabin well and left everything immaculately (definitely cleaner than we found it as I swept up dog hair before we left and we donât have a dogâ¦). I ended up having to make a call to Sykes on our way home about this to message to express my hurt and upset and to try to get some more information, which they didnât really have⦠It seems that, sadly, itâs easy for the âGood Housekeeping Bondâ to be used against honest, careful visitors as an attempt to get money out of them. How many people are being accused like us? A deeply upsetting experience when this holiday was incredibly needed for us⦠2. You have to walk out of the cabin area and through the garden (where youâre fully visible to the owners house) to take the lid off the hot tub. You then have to walk all the way back around again to put it back on afterwards - this makes for a very cold and exposed walk in a swimsuit! Poorly thought out. A set of steps down from the decking would make much more sense and also be safer. 3. It would have been nice to have been told on the booking information that you can expect to have to drive through a very large herd of very stubborn cows to get to the cabinâ¦. Coming back after dinner in the dark and coming face to face with them was very scary and something we had not prepared for⦠4. There was a lot of dog hair on the floor when we arrived. 5. The sofas in the cabin are sunk and very unsupportive for your back. 6. Some of the wardrobe door knobs and chest of drawer knobs were missing having broken off and not been replaced. 7. There were several small holes in bedding. 8. We were only provided with one large towel and one small towel for two people for 4 nights. 9. There were no towel robes provided for use after getting out of the hot tub - this is the first cabin stay weâve had where these were not provided - and with the hot tub positioning, walking around in full view of the owners house in your swimsuit just feels inappropriate⦠10. No ânice thingsâ to turn up to like biscuits or bread or eggs etc⦠again the first cabin weâve come to where you get nothing as a welcome. 11. The integrated fridge was wobbly as well⦠not really attached inside its casing. Good bits: 1. The cabin itself was fairly well equipped with kitchen things 2. Lovely views from the decking to have breakfast and coffee 3. Bed was comfortable 4. WiFi was strong and reliable 5. Hot tub was welcome after long walks

We cut our break short my husband wanted to leave the moment we arrived but we stayed until the Thursday.
The cleaner was still there when we arrived at about 3.30 on Sunday the place is Friday change so expected it to be ready . There was lots of damp/dirt in the bathroom and twin room, found a wet dirty towel on the back of our bedroom door. Kitchen hot water tap had no pressure and no hot water maintenance man came and told us we had to boast the water heater. Lack of information about anything on the site or in the chalet , swimming pool was good grandson used it every day partly because there was nothing else to do , the key for the swimming pool area did not work so had to get someone from reception to let us in , they told us we werenât the first person staying at 48 to have this problem it needs sorting. The overall holiday was very disappointing. The site entrance is rough looking the buildings are tired and badly maintained and the first impression is bad , the empty pub/ restaurant area is a shame to see and the was not great . The children park needs maintenance also some bits were dangerous . Some of the window catches are stuck closed so couldnât open them in the case of a fire it would be dangerous. The shower knob was very hard to turn on and off husband had to turn it off because we couldnât. The taps in bathroom sink need changing as they were very hard to turn too . Would not recommend staying here to anyone.

Stunning location and cottage.
We loved watching the sky and beach changing. We did so much walking and you could just spend all your time in Port Eynon. The Smugglers Inn did some fantastic food and everyone was very friendly. Fish and chips shops were great and the small coffee shop by the surf clothes shop. We were very lucky with the weather and sat in the front garden with the beautiful beach to watch. A lot of wildlife and people watching very peaceful. We sat in the back garden when the sun moved. I did read previous reviews and so came prepared with toilet rolls wood etc. sadly the cleaning is not great but linen and towels were good. Two mugs and some plates are badly chipped and have been for a while looking back over reviews. Also two frying pans and the wok have lost some of the non stick surface. There is a gap in the fence which has some wood leaning on it but luckily my dog didn't escape. There was a lot of dogs poo in the garden which I had to pick up on arrival . The disposal of the rubbish is a bit inconvenient ....I followed instructions in the cottage book but the only bins I could find in the carpark were open general ones (however they were emptied every day) I was worried animals may pull out the domestic waste etc. Despite the remarks I have made I would definitely return summer or winter it's a little gem !

The cabin is in a lovely secluded spot with great views.
On first inspection the cabin seemed clean but me being a clean freak found the oven dirty and the toaster crumb tray full of burnt bits. I tried to clean both with what i had with me so i would at least use them. But would suggest a regular professional oven clean and empty the toast crumb tray every change over. All other parts of the cabin nice and clean. Would have liked a hoover as we both have asthma and dog hair floats on vinyl floors and using the broom just moves the dust and hair around the place. One other suggestion is to provide a poo bin for the dog waste as all the bags we put on the ground by the gate (as asked to) and they just sat there for the 3 days we were there. last point there were not dishwasher tablets left as per the cabin information but as we do not have one ourselves we just washed up as we do at home and yes we could have asked for some but do not like to disturb owners on such a small point. We still enjoyed out time there thank you
