What our customers say about their holidays
Ginni - Verified booking
The holiday cottage itself was lovely, big, well equipped and with a great enclosed garden.
However, it wasnât particularly clean and two of the loo seats were loose, there was mould in the shower grouting and the sheets were stained, as were the towels. The initial view of the outside was alarming as the property sits behind a derelict pub and the front looks generally uncared for. Our main issue was the lack of welcome and hospitality by the owner, Debbie. We got off on the wrong foot I think because when we arrived we nipped out to get shopping and stock up for the week leaving our dogs behind - they are extremely well behaved and we bring our own camera to monitor them. I admit that I completely neglected to check that Debbie would be okay with this because I holiday several times a year in dog-friendly properties and have never had an issue before. We were gone for 2 hrs and 30 mins - the camera footage can verify and the dogs barked once when people were present on the driveway. We came back to be handed a screen shot of the property rules stating that dogs should not be left in the property by Debbieâs sister but no other conversation. I immediate text Debbie apologising for not checking and assuring her that I would respect her rules going forward - she responded 24 hrs later saying that it was distressing to hear the dogs bark âall dayâ - absolutely NOT our dogs. Debbie also told us that she had âfamilyâ staying in her âlaundry roomâ - a one bedroom dwelling just 20 feet from the door of the bungalow. Her âfamilyâ consisted of several people, who slept in the laundry room and also in a van on the driveway. They would bang the doors to the van as they went back and forth until quite late into the night (past 11pm) which woke our small children up on several occasions. We found menâs underwear in one of the bedrooms and pyjamas and a wallet in another bedroom with a driving licence in that seemed to match the identity of one of Debbieâs âfamilyâ members, (Photos available) and post and deliveries were made to the bungalow whilst we were there. When I told Debbie about the left belongings via text, I received no response at all. There was no cleaning equipment at the property either - we like to at least hoover at some point during the week - although Debbie did lend us her hoover on request. All in all, we felt generally unwelcome and it was a relief to leave at the end of the week

This cottage is like a tardis.
Itâs much bigger than the pictures show. Light spacious kitchen and very well equipped and lovely views from the bedroom window. I found the bed to be really comfortable.l and the upstairs toilet was really good to save keep going downstairs during the night. The wood burner in the lounge is really good and much needed as it was cold for May. It would be good to have the option of a curtain between the lounge/diner and kitchen to help keep the heat in though. Lovely, quirky decor throughout and it felt like the owners had put a lot of thought into every piece of furniture/ornament. Please note that the garden is not fully enclosed for dogs. The photo shows a wooden gate at the back however in reality it is a metal gate and our little dogs could easily have escaped so we kept them on leads. Also the sliding door from the kitchen was really difficult to slide open as it gets stuck a lot. We struggled to get the key safe open too - it took a lot of attempts before it finally clicked open. You can park outside but that does block the view through the lounge window and you have to pull in very tight to the house so traffic can get past. The cottage is in a great position close to some lovely beaches and itâs easy to get around the whole of Anglesey. It was fairly clean however Iâm really fussy especially as dogs are allowed so I did clean it all myself with cleaning products I took with me and also gave it a thorough clean before I left. All in all a lovely cottage and deceptively spacious.

The cottage was comfortable and very tastefully decorated with a great location.
Unfortuantely, the cleanliness of the cottage was very disappointing and in the light of COVID 19. I was actually horrified to find wine glasses with lip marks and grease on them, spoons with food on them in the cutlery drawer ! Bowls that were greasy in the cupboard. A black pubic hair on the back of the toilet before we used the downstairs toilet!! The couch buttons had food, hair & dirt in the couch buttons, and we had to clean the whole couch as well. Dust everywhere on all the ledges, window sills, picture frames ect light switches were all dirty this all indicated that the cottage had not been cleaned adequately. As we had made a long journey and were looking forward to our stay, we made the decision to clean the whole of the cottage for fear of contamination, using antibacterial wipes and sprays. Washing all of the cutlery, dishes surfaces etc this took around 2 hours which was a very dismal start to our holiday. Whilst we understand that it is out of the control of the owner, we feel that we should have been forewarned that a major re-build was ongoing in the attached next door cottage and the drilling and noise from the builders started very early in the morning and continued throughout the day. We have photographic evidence of all our complaints and will in the light of our experience not be booking with Sykes cottages again. If you send me a email link, I will attach the images and video evidence.

Absolutely fabulous week of glorious weather in a glorious setting.
Bwythan Bach cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. We got a lovely warm welcome from Anona and her mum who live onsite, even the cats came to say hello. The beach which has the amazing Witches Cauldron area is about 45 minutes walk away from the cottage and is a must see, itâs spectacular and a great excuse to leave the car! Itâs the first time in all the years of holidaying that Iâve felt so completely and utterly relaxed! Everything was just so easy with the open plan one level layout. There was a burst water main one day so consequently no water for a few hours. Anona came round with a box of chocolates despite it being totally out of her control to apologise to us. Canât sing this placeâs highly enough. The only thing I might change if it was my property would be to maybe put a little bit of privacy screening up as this cottages garden was at the front and as such I didnât feel I could sunbathe there despite it being the weather to do so. It would not stop me returning though as I would love to come back again very soon. Thank you Anona and Andrew.

Bwthyn Bach was one of a small number of other converted farm buildings within a working farm.
Although there were other guests around, this didn't feel intrusive. The old, thick brick walls meant that the sound proofing was excellent, helpful when you have 2 dogs. We had an issue with the shower and bath, but we informed the owners, so I'm sure this will have been sorted. WiFi was very slow and only really able to access emails, so if anyone is wanting to work from home on their holiday (why would you!?), then this will need to be taken into account. The farm is situated a bit out of the way, so we drove to places we wanted to go to and walked from there. Nevern is a beautiful place and we found a stunning walk, discovering the river where we saw Kingfishers and Dippers. Newport is the nearest small town and there is where you can walk along Newport Bay, as well as do your shopping. The beauty of staying in Nevern/ Newport area, is that it is only 20 to 40 mins drive away from all the coastal walks we wanted to do. Porthgain, Fishguard, St David's and Dinas Island. The cottage had everything you need for a comfortable stay in a beautiful part of Pembrokeshire.
