What our customers say about their holidays
Stacey - Verified booking
As previously discussed with Rachael who manages the cottage, when we arrived on the Saturday the house smelt of damp, and we noticed the floor had puddles of water, and didnât seem to have dried.
Upon further inspection we noticed this water spanned the whole of the ground floor, and we werenât certain whether there was a leak or whether there was damp in the cottage. As my elderly Mom has recently had surgery, we had concerns incase she should slip. We wiped the floor as best as we could, however when we wiped the floor with paper towel, the floor was filthy. After having a 5 hour drive in 31 degree heat, we didnât consider ringing to get the cleaners back in, we wanted to get the house ready as the other half of our party were still on their way, and arrived after setting off several hours before. Upon having a look around the house, we noticed that some of the utensils, chopping boards and serving dishes and plates in the drawers are mouldy, along with a display chopping board on the side. You could clearly see that something wasnât right with either damp or a leak in the property. The units in the kitchen didnât close properly, as if the wood has warped due to damp. Additionally there is a chest of drawers in the twin room which is also mouldy. As we know, mould spores are a health hazard and as such needs to be treated in the right fashion. On both the Sunday and Monday mornings, we came down to further puddles in both the kitchen and the dining room, and had all the windows and doors open to try and dry these areas. We resulted in using fanâs that weâd bought with us as the weather was hot, to help dry the floors. The property has two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath. We attempted to use both at the same time; to discover that only one bathroom could be in use at any one time, as using both pulls the water pressure off the other, which when there are 7 of us in the property, getting ready in time made things difficult. We noted that some of the windows we were unable to open, along with there being no key to open the back door of the property, and should we have needed to get out in a hurry or emergency, this could have been catastrophic. Furthermore, on the Sykes website, the property was shown as having off road parking, and thatâs not the case, as you have to park on the road, outside the premises. Itâs there we also noticed that the windows both inside and out were filthy, and could do with being cleaned, especially as the house is on a busy through road, which also isnât mentioned on the listing. The downstairs toilet needs some attention, as the toilet seat is loose and needs fixing. One of the few plus points was that the property was lovely, the linens and towels were very clean and the styling did compliment the premises. We appreciate that the house is of a certain age and we fully understand the history of the house and its previous uses, but these issues weâve raised we felt spoilt the weekend to a degree but it didnât detract from the reason of our visit, which was to complete the Macmillan Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike in honour of my uncle who passed away earlier in the year. We have provided images and detailed feedback to the owner of the premises along with Rachael who manages the cleaning team, and hopefully they will have time to put these things right for their next guests.

On arrival to the house we followed the instructions to sanitize our hands, there was a sanitizer provided inside the front door but it did not work so we used our own.
We then read the instruction book to make sure we understood the requirements. We then purchased food and looked to unpack, it was then quite late in the day and wanted to get some dinner and children to bed. We did not have any hot water and no instructions on how to use the hot water so had to call the owner to see what was needed, the lady who answered was not at first helpful to assist but we did as she instructed and thanked her for her time and then carried on sorting our unpacking and dinner. An hour later the lady arrived at the door to assist she came with another person who had google'd how to set the timer for the hot water and heating, the fact it was google'd showed that it was not something already documented which was a shame. Whilst the lady was there we pointed out the hand sanitizer did not work and the back inside door did not lock she viewed both and then asked for a window/door man to come the next day. The house was very nice, good location, clean lots of facilities and an exceptional amount of tea/coffee milk, biscuits supplied the only thing letting it down are instructions on how to use things.

The property overall was surprisingly good.
I say that because I have had experience of booking a holiday home through a company rather than a private hire before and they havenât been too good. Firstly the cleanliness was superb. Beds were clean and fresh everywhere indoors was lovely. There was a lovely little welcome pack of tea, jam and biscuits. And we felt very at home. There were only two let downs. Firstly the bathroom on the ground floor had a few issues. The tap on the huge bath was wobbly from what looked like broken tiles around it. Also there was a bit of mould on the walls that needs attention and the skylight above the bath could have been lovely had it been clean and free of bird poo. Secondly both the BBQâs hadnât been cleaned by the previous users and we couldnât use either of them, which was a shame as we had a lovely evening weatherwise when a BBQ would have been nice . I understand both these issues were not the responsibility of the cleaners so no criticism to them. On the whole though we have a lovely stay and would recommend this house to everyone.

A really roomy and well equipped property - very much a luxury feel. It's remote - very quiet and down a long narrow road (with reversing needed at times back to passing points - although this was only needed once in our case - and also up a slope into the drive to park). Lovely night skies visible and just moments from the beach. Not a swimming beach - there's one of those 20 minutes drive away, but spectacular sea views from the kitchen, dining and living areas and the main two bedrooms. You can see all the way down Chesil beach and the light on it changes throughout the day. You can walk 25 minutes along the coast path to two good restaurants in the next village - itself a great walk (and you can come back along the top of the hill). Abbotsbury itself is also walkable (around 35 mins), as are the sub-tropical gardens which are well worth a visit. it's a fantastic property and although it sits in with other properties close by, you really don't notice them at all - it was detached and very quiet. We'd certainly go again.

Good directions and easy to use lockbox which was great for our late arrival.
The house was generally clean with a few marks on paint and carpets. It is quite small. There were 4 of us staying here plus a dog and that felt plenty but our children are teens so it would be much better with smaller children. The view and location are great. We had some lovely walks straight onto the Rodwell Trail. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were plenty of plates, glasses and cutlery. A few strange noises when we used the washing machine but it all came out clean. Plenty of hot water. There are a few minor areas that need some attention - the wet room door may need a better seal on it as it did come under it one time, one of the knobs on the cooker top was broken and it is very hot on the top floor and that was when the weather was not that warm. We didn't see a fan up there but then we didn't look in all of the cupboards so there may be one. Comfortable beds and we all slept well. Overall we had a nice break here.
