What our customers say about their holidays
Sally - Verified booking
One of our dogs was poisoned by fibreglass insulation in the garden of this cottage as there was loads of it lying around.
He needed emergency vet treatment and nearly died. Sykes cottages do not want to know and have not responded to any of my complaints. When we arrived, the flat was cold and felt damp. We looked around and saw lots of dirt, dust and mixed dog hairs everywhere. We worked out how to turn the heating on to warm the place and set about unpacking our belonging, however on closer inspection we found the cupboards to be really dirty so we kept our belongings in our suitcases and lived out of them for the entire stay. On the first night my son awoke in the middle of the night having an asthma attack, he is asthmatic but haven't had an attack like that for a long time so we were confused as to what caused it. He continued to have asthma attacks for the duration of our stay. Thank god we had his medication. The next morning, we looked around and saw how dirty and dusty the room he slept in was so realised that it mustâve been this that had set his asthma attack off. We cleaned his room ourselves to make it less dusty for him. On the second day that we were there, one of our dogs (cavapoo) became quite ill, he stopped eating, was vomiting very aggressively and was not himself. All through the night he kept vomiting and being sick, he hadnât eaten any food and hadnât passed urine or pooped. By the Sunday morning he was so lethargic and sick that we had to seek an emergency vet who confirmed that he was poisoned. It was touch and go and we were told to prepare ourselves as the vet wasn't sure he would make it through the night. The next day it was confirmed that he had eaten fibreglass insulation. We went home and for the next two days and nursed and looked after our dog who was completely lethargic and just laid still on the sofa for the next few days. We had to syringe feed him water and give him pills to help his stomach. The day after he became ill, my husband had a good look around the garden to inspect it and to determine where he could have gotten the fibreglass insulation from that cause his sudden illness and found there were loads of pieces of fibreglass insulation all around the garden and decking area. He picked each piece up and disposed of it correctly. We informed the owner of what was happening and her response was âsorry i donât know what that isâ The next day i expected her to be in touch to enquire how our dog was doing but we heard nothing more. Throughout his five day illness, the owner Gill did not reach out to ask if he was ok or showed no concern. Our dog finally started being a bit better on the 6th day that we were there and whilst we are extremely happy and completely relieved that he survived, we basically spent the entire holiday in the flat nursing our sick dog back to health. On our final day there, my husband went for a shower and when he tried to come out of the bathroom, he found he could not get out and was locked in. We tried everything to get him out but did not have any tools to turn the outside lock. We phoned the owner who came with a screwdriver and opened the door. My husband suffers with anxiety and had a massive panic attack whilst being stuck in the bathroom. Once the owner had opened the door, she proceeded to take the screwdriver and started to take the entire handle and lock off the bathroom door whilst my husband stood in the bathroom with just a towel around him. She spent about half an hour trying to get the lock off and in the end decided that she couldnât so she left it as she found the lock was bent which caused it to jam hence why my husband became locked in. She then phoned someone and made arrangements for them to come the next day to do it after we checked out. I have no idea why she started to try and take the lock off the door because once she took the screwdriver and unlocked it and freed my husband, we expected her to leave. However this was not the case. She then had a phone call and left quite suddenly leaving the front door wide open and a bathroom door with a handle and lock hanging off that now couldn't close at all. Which in turn left us with no privacy from each other. Overall the holiday was a disaster, the place was dusty and disgustingly dirty. I am now seeking legal advice as sykes cottages have not responded to any of my complaints.

Having stayed at this property this review stems from mixed feelings in regards to our stay in November 22 and is an honest review, focusing on both the pros and main cons which affected our stay.
On arrival at the property the old fashioned metal porch is not very welcoming and does instill doubt of what lies ahead. The location of the property is great for travelling to various locations. It offers off road parking and has a convenience store just over the road which is great if you have forgot something. Although having not met the owner the communication is excellent and they appear to be very accommodating and helpful. The neighbour is also very friendly, helpful and makes you feel very welcome. The property does offer a secure garden area for your dog which is great. It also offers a lovely decking area which will be great during summer months. With regards to the inside of the property itself sadly this comes with a mixed review. Although the property has been modernised somewhat it does still need some attention with the paying customer's comfort in mind. The kitchen appears to have been modernised to a great standard and does offer everything you could want during the stay. The bathroom has been modernised and offers plenty of hot water without issue. On entering the property there was a obvious feel of must and damp and it was very cold. The heating system will combat this but you will need the heating on constant. Once you turn the heating off it is not long before the property drops tempature very quickly. Been comfortable during a stay should be a key proirty but sadly this was not the case during our stay in Nov "22 The 2 sofas in the lounge are well past their best and are not at all comfortable to sit on for long periods as you can feel the wooden structure poking through and the cushion seats have lost their support. The TV is difficult to set up and could be a real issue for anyone who is not technical minded. The double bed desperately needs a new mattress which is very tired and needs replacing. The location of the double bed on our visit was also an issue and needs repositioning away from the wall. If the person closest to the wall wants to visit the toilet in the night they can't get out of bed without disturbing the other person. This could also be an issue for anyone of a older age. The property would benefit from blinds in the windows giving a little privacy to guests as most windows offer nothing at all which makes it feel cold and open expecially during darkness. The only exception to this is that the bedroom and lounge do offer curtains which can be drawn but nothing else. Overall a great location but a property which needs some attention focusing on the customer's comfort. We booked a week's stay but made the decision to leave only 3 days into our stay. Would we stay here again ..... sadly no unless the issues were rectified.

Our second stay at The Orchard, two adults and two young children.
The flat is compact but very well equipped with excellent facilities - the owner has obviously invested a lot of time into ensuring everything is provided for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is wonderful with high quality appliances which really makes a difference when you are self catering. The beds and sofas are very comfortable and the shower is hot and powerful - excellent bath towels too. It was great to have a proper clothes airer. The flat is warm and has been decorated with attention to detail in a seaside theme which adds to the holiday feel of the place. The only issue we had was noise from the flat above on the first two nights of our stay a loud washing machine and TV disturbed us until nearly 2am in the morning. Obviously this is beyond the owner's control and we are quite sensitive to noise so this probably wouldn't be an issue for most people. The owner is helpful and approachable and has left a great folder of information as well as comprehensive contact details. Rhos is a fantastic place to stay with a young family, located within easy reach of Conwy and Llandudno as well as many other attractions and the local bus services are great. The flat is located only a 5-10 minute walk from all shops and the beautiful sea front which has a great little play area, reasonably priced cafes and crazy golf. Fabulous fish and chip shop also nearby open for lunch and tea - good kids menu which is big enough for adults too. Well stocked and friendly pharmacies and supermarkets are minutes away on foot or by car. Overall a great place to stay and we would happily return again - thanks to the owner for making us welcome with a travel cot and highchair and little touches like tea making supplies and cakes, your hard work is much appreciated by guests.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Millgate House.
The property is in a perfect location right in the centre of Conwy with the added bonus of parking. The decor is beautiful throughout and to a high standard. Communication was really good and there was a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The house has everything you need for a lovely stay in the area and there are plenty of nice places to eat in the town. The Erskine Arms opposite is superb and lovely inside. Despite being in the town there was no noise and we felt totally relaxed. We loved the property so much we will definitely come back. Lovely walks nearby on the Conwy mountains and along the river at Betsw y coed. A beautiful dog friendly beach too at Morfa beach. You can also visit the smallest house in Britain which is in the town. The only thing we would change is the seating in the lounge. For 2 people we managed ok but it wasnât that comfortable. If the sofa was replaced with a bigger L shaped one which seats 4 adults, rather than having the rocking chair and table that would make this property perfect. Thanks for a great stay in your lovely home and we look forward to coming back again.
